My experience at Shanty Creek
Review Submitted: August 6, 2009

We were a bit disappointed with the property because -- #1 - it was on the 2nd level and my knees don't quite bend like that anymore [I'm 56] #2 - there was no wireless internet #3 - the shuttle service was pretty much a joke; they never came when we called for them #4 - there was no laundry facilities #5 - we were told that a pool/ workout facility/ relaxation area was *just across the street* from our building -- there was nothing #6 - we never saw or spoke to the owner in person #7 - there were no activities in the immediate area [within walking distance] for us to enjoy.
The condo itself was very clean, smelled nice, very welcoming, and fully stocked with everything one could ever possibly need while on vacation.
I would reccommend this property to anyone who can climb steps without getting winded. There was nothing to do there except watch TV, especially since we could never get the shuttle bus to come take us to any of the other resorts to see what was offered there. There was some sort of "kiddy camp" building there on site, but we, personally, had no need for that. There was no one around to help give us directions to a grocery store, or a laundry facility, or a movie theatre, etc.
I would reccommend to this property owner, and to ALL property owners, that they include some sort of *welcome* packet to their vacationers -- including phone numbers to the shuttle service,,,, a map/ directions to near-by grocery stores, laundry facilities, and restaurants/ movie theatres in town,,,, a list of local events happening near/ in town,,,, etc etc.
The online description of the property was pretty much accurate. However, there was no phone in the condo.
:(
There was no one around with whom we could ask questions. We felt totally lost and isolated. We were not familiar with the area, and could not go anywhere without knowing where we were going. I expected more of a casual/ fun/ entertaining area... instead the condo building was pretty much isolated/ boring/ out in the middle of nowhere.
If you play golf, or ski, then there are activities there for you. If you don't, there were board games in one of the closets for your entertainment pleasure.
Owner's Response: Just to clarify a few discrepancies in this review for future renters.
1. There are two pools directly across the street from the parking lot. One inside and one outside. Also the outside pool is open in the winter as well. The workout facility is at the Summit, which is a few miles away. There are lots of trails available for running and hiking directly from the condo.
2. I provide my phone number to all renters and am available at anytime. In fact I talked to this renter and or her daughter on the phone twice.
3. We do have a guide in the condo with numbers and suggestions for dining, sight seeing, etc...
4. As the renter states this is an excellent condo for enjoying skiing and golf. There is plenty to do you just need to get out and enjoy everything the resort and surrounding areas have to offer.
5. IVANS which is located across the parking lot is a great place to get out and enjoy some music, etc... In the winter this is the place to be for entertainment.
6. There is free wireless internet at the lodge which is across the street.
7. For the money you can’t beat it. A great condo, in a great location. If you are looking to enjoy Northern Michigan you won't be disappointed. If you are looking to step out the door to find taxi cabs and strips malls this isn't the place to be.
