About Chidakash

Shera and Chidakash are in love with people and with travelling. This work has culminated in the building of a unique home and seaside retreat called Serenity by the Sea Retreat, on Galiano Island, in the Gulf Islands near Victoria. Shera is an artist and maintains a large studio gallery at home. She also has remarkable skills as a therapist and healer which are enhanced by the extraordinary energies of Serenity by the Sea, its waterfront and gardens. Chidakash manages the retreat and has created a unique style of bodywork called Expansive Body Integration. Together they offer transformational journeys to Peru and annual trips to Thailand to care for elephants hands-on. We are delighted that our Victoria Properties at Mermaid Wharf as a retreat to support people wanting to make their own discoveries and explore their interests and creativity.

Why Chidakash chose Victoria

When we walked into this condo we were blown away by the dramatic panoramic expanse of harbour view. It was a 'Wow!' factor that was irresistible. And we have already been delighted by the location of Mermaid Wharf and its proximity to so much in Victoria. We are at retirement age and here we will have all the pleasures of being in the centre with non of the hassles of traffic and parking!

This stunning penthouse property is a beautiful refuge for anyone who would like to rise above the turmoil and traffic of the city. Everything about it seems to be a celebration of the Harbour, and the ocean, the open sky. The patio garden on the rooftop adds a fabulous dimension to this waterfront experience. With a fridge and a barbeque and lots of seating, it is a delightful place to host family, friends, or colleagues

Great location

We had a wonderful stay at this top level Mermaid Wharf apartment. We didn't have a car, although parking is included. We walked everywhere in Victoria. Lots or restaurants and shops nearby. Comfortable furnishings, and a well equipped kitchen, to include a waffle iron. The compact apartment was quiet with lots of light. We will definitely look to stay here again.

Beautiful apartment with one qualification

On a positive note the apartment is of a very high standard -we did not want for any extras and everything worked well .It was very convenient having the parking garage in the basement (especially when we saw cars being ticketed in the street outside ) .It was only a 10 min or so walk into town .It was also great to use the water taxis-which we did a number of times especially when we discovered Spinnakers bar/restaurant on the other side of the harbour .Canoe Pub was very convenient downstairs -there was some noise from downstairs when there was live music but it was generally over by 11.30pm.
On a negative note when we were there it was very warm ,the apartment does not have air conditioning and even with the fan on and all the window blinds down it was like a furnace ,especially during the afternoon /early evening when the sun comes straight in .This meant that we had to sleep with all of the windows and balcony door open .As a result we could hear the tyre noise as cars went over the adjoining bridge for most of the night (the metal grid on the bridge changing the rumble of tyres to a high pitched noise as every car went over ).On the same theme it is not apparent from the photos that the apartment overlooks a construction site where the new bridge is being constructed (with the signs saying this will continue until 2016 ) .
As a result we were woken very early every morning as the construction work started-on one memorable morning they decided to start spraying water to keep the dust down at 6.30 am as the water cart beeped loudly every few seconds .
So our overall positive experience of the interior of the apartment was somewhat spoiled by the outlook and construction noise-maybe we were just unlucky and chose a particularly hot spell .Perhaps photos of the surrounding area could be chosen that show the views from the apartment

Owner's Response: Hi! Thanks for your review and for your positive comments. Our guests have enjoyed the West and Northern facing views because they never miss a sunset and can enjoy the lingering light much longer into the evening.

We have many ways of managing and dissipating the heat that otherwise might build up on a summer day. I am sorry that you may not have been aware of some of them.

We have 5 opening windows, and a sliding door opening to the balcony. Because we are in a corner apartment, cross currents are encouraged through the apartment.

In addition there is a large opening skylight above the kitchen toward the back of the apartment which, when opened, releases the warmer air that gathers against the 9-10' high ceiling. This also has the effect of greatly increasing the flow of air from the windows.

We also have a sophisticated portable 3 1/2 ft. high columnar fan which has a variety of flow options to choose from. It is very effective in offering relief wherever you may be in the apartment, and is much quieter than an air conditioner. If you had been using this fan, you could have slept cooler and without the intrusion of intermittent tire noise from the bridge at night. (This should not be an issue, by the way, when the new bridge is completed next year.)

We also recommend that before guests leave the apartment for the day, that they open the windows and set up all the cross currents as described above, and also lower the sunshades over the windows. They are especially designed to reduce the impact of the sun. Then when you return at the end of the day, you will not be entering a closed apartment that has been baking for the afternoon.

As for the bridge construction. This is a temporary thing, and the noise has certainly not been continuous through any day. I am sorry that it may have been particularly bothersome during your visit.

Excellent location

Our recent stay in Victoria was made more memorable by staying in this beautiful condo. It is quiet and secure. We were just 5 to 20 mins. walk from most of the major attractions on the habour and an easy drive anywhere else. The water taxis are quartered right outside the Mermaid Wharf Condo Bldg. The condo owners and their manager are first rate people to deal with.

Excellent location

This condo is in a very good location. 5 to 20 mins walk to most waterfront attractions. We had a great time but the temperatures were a bit cool, but had only 3 days of rain over 2 weeks. Booking further into June would give you warmer weather. The owners are excellent hosts.
