About Betsy Bishop

My husband Rim and I grew up in South FL, but have always loved to travel. We have found nothing in the US to compare with the Rocky Mountains for scenery, climate and wildlife. Now we are living in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with our Pembroke Welsh Corgi Megan and our rescue cat Oliver Rhys. Rim and I have built a retreat for ourselves in the mountains, but can only visit several weeks a year. We love to share the peace and beauty we have found there with others.

Betsy Bishop purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Betsy Bishop chose Fairplay

We stumbled on this area while driving to Breckenridge for our 20th wedding anniversary. South Park is a high elevation bowl surrounded by mountain ranges. There are many scenic drives and mountain passes for the adventurous to explore. We were attracted to the beauty of the area and abundant wildlife. My husband and I prefer the small town atmosphere of Fairplay to the more heavily populated and trendy ski areas.

What makes this cabin unique

Watch the sun rise over Pike's Peak, or sit on the deck to watch for deer, elk, moose, birds and our squirrel, Paulie Walnuts. The Pike National Forest is on the back border of the lot and there is open meadow across the road that is owned in partnership with the Nature Concervancy, where elk, moose, and deer are often seen at dusk and dawn. Cabins on either side of our lot are barely visible even in winter due to the thick grove of mature aspen trees, which turn golden in the fall. The house has all the modern conveniences, yet is cozy and secluded. Snuggle in for a good night's sleep under thick, down comforters. Our water is better than any bottled variety, is cold from the faucet, and is tested regularly to comply with Colorado state laws (as any public water supply).

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just want to let you know that everything was great. We really enjoyed our stay at your home, and we really appreciated all the Christmas decorations. It's a wonderful place you have, and we found everything we needed while there. You've done a really great job of keeping the kitchen stocked with all the pots and pans and other gadgets that anyone might need.

Thank you again for opening your home to us, and I hope you had a great Holiday.

Great place, great location

  • 5 of 5

I spent a weekend, sans family, at this place. Wonderful location backing to the Pike national forest. The community the home is located has a nice trail system and easy access to the Forest Service trails.

The place was in great shape, immaculately clean and wonderfully stocked.

South Park Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Incredible! The cabin was cozy and inviting. We could not have stumbled upon a better place. We put this trip together at the very last minute and we forgot a few things...but Betsy didn't. The cabin is completely stocked with everything you'll need. I usually pay more per day for a nasty little motel room than we did for this cabin. I was completely impressed!

Beautiful cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Betsy and Rim's cabin and found it a wonderful place to get away from it all. The kitchen was one of the most well stocked we have yet to encounter and we were wont for nothing. There was a big Christmas tree put up, which made the cabin very festive and we found the surroundings picturesque in a Colorado wide open space kind of way. This is a great location if you are wanting a head start into any of the surrounding 14ers or forests. There was a short hiking trail on the property which was conveniently accessed right from the cabin. The trail was very nice to walk through in the snow after a big turkey dinner. A+

When we walked in, you could tell that this was someone's much loved home. It was immaculate and welcoming, and we definitely enjoyed our stay here. The owner has been delightful to work with and I feel like I made a new friend.

Can't do any better than this!

  • 5 of 5

Betsy and Rim's cabin has secured a a top spot on our list of favorites. We enjoy trying new places every year, but I think we might have just found our home away from home. You'll want for nothing, here. The bed in the master bedroom is comfortable (the bedclothes are quite luxurious), the kitchen is well appointed, and the bathrooms are spacious. Overall this home is clean, well organized, modern but certainly cabin-like, and appropriately decorated without being kitschy.

Thanks to a well placed salt-lick outside the master bedroom's panoramic window, we woke one morning to a majestic moose...we couldn't stop watching!

Betsy is a fantastic host. She made sure everything was just right for us. Thanks Betsy, we appreciate your hospitality...and we'll see you next year!!

Wonderful Cabin in the Rocky Mountains!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here last December while celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. The cabin was just perfect! Cozy, clean and well equipped. Loved the views and enjoyed all of the wildlife including the moose who walked through the property one afternoon. Betsy and Rim were wonderful! Very helpful and accommodating and even had great advice for my altitude sickness. Kitchen was well stocked and loved having the gas fireplace and master bedroom on the main floor. We highly recommend this beautiful cabin and cannot wait to return! Thank you both!
