This is a great family house done in the traditional upside down style used to take advantage of beach views. The north deck has 2 picnic tables on it, as well as other seating. It is a great place to check out the morning waves while sipping that first cup of coffee, or for enjoying a home grilled dinner (watch out for those seagulls though, they are fast!) The east deck is covered and a nice place to escape the midday sun. It's breezy and cozy all at once! It is also used in the evening to sneak an occasional cigar or after dinner drink. Both decks are great places to watch the world go past by air, land or sea. The living room has a unique built in bar area complete w/keg fridge. It's great for adults but our kids love it as a place to snack and play games.
The bathrooms are a bit unique in that the master bath has a double headed shower, and the other downstairs bathroom is separated into two rooms, one w/two distinct sink areas and the other comprising the toilet and shower. This configuration is especially useful during rush hour! To me the best shower is found outside, where all the sand and salt can be washed off under the sun or stars...depending on how late you are. There is a downstairs deck as well, where beach toys and chairs can be found, and in the side yard there is even a good, old fashioned clothes line for sandy towels and wet suits. Almost all of the beds are new foam mattress beds, making for a great night's sleep! The driveway has parking for four, or use the street and let the kids use the drive way for games and biking.

My brother and I are from a large family and both my husband and sister-in-law come from north of the border. We collaborate well..working and playing together here. Our kids have been lucky to grow up together in this house during their summers and in the off season. In fact, our favorite times have been spending early fall, Thanksgiving, and New Years here. The town spruces up for the holidays, and it's so nice and quiet too.
My parents had a place in Stone Harbor since before I was born. Then many members of the extended family began settling here as well. When my husband and I got married and moved to London, we would come to Stone Harbor for our family holidays. In fact we were married in Stone Harbor, and had our reception in Cape May. So you can see the area has special meaning for us. One New Year's Holiday a friend and sister-in-law spotted this property and the rest was history. We bought the house w/one of my brothers, making the trans-Atlantic ownership much easier. Along the way a few of my other brothers have purchased properties on the island and Stone Harbor has been our family reunion 'beach week' spot for going on 30 years now. The 20 cousins all have such a good time together that they are now petitioning for 'beach weeks!'
What makes this house great is that it is so close to the beach and an easy walk to town. Because of its proximity to the water we often find our house used as the base camp on beach days. What I love is when it's not too hot to keep the windows open you can go to bed to the sounds of the ocean at night and wake up to the sounds of the gulls in the morning. The house is on a bigger lot too, and that gives it a sense of privacy...as do the big old trees out front. It is not a new house, but an older house modernized w/a bit of funk...the old wood charm mixed in w/the new world functional that just makes it a great house to vacation.
