A wonderful time.

Nademmy Comox Valley, B.C. Canada
Review Submitted: March 17, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
It soon became our home, away from home. The apartment was exactly as described, comfortable and provided all that we were looking for. At the end of the road, in Makaha, hardly any tourists, and a beach to ourselves, right across the street. Lots of snorkeling and surfing available close by.
Good parking for our car, in a locked compound, great security feature. Car recommended if touring the island is part of the plan.. Caretaker friendly and helpful, providing beach chairs, and recommending places to eat, giving us lots of privacy, which was much appreciated. A great deck for sitting in the sun, or the shade. Secured wireless internet, at no extra charge, a must for comunicating with home. Wonderful gardens, flowers, birds and butterfies. Great for early risers, roosters to assist, or just turn up the air conditioner if you want to sleep in. We had a wonderful time and would go back to stay again.

Safari in Makaha

Cbree Los Angeles
Review Submitted: September 30, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
PROS:
Makaha beaches were beautiful as usual, serene, and calm. The accommodations were clean, organized, and a perfect country setting. If you prefer more of a night life or crave the hustle & bustle of the city this is not for you. Its rather off of the beaten path where peace and quiet is the daily offering on the menu.

Nestled between the soft white sand beaches and the green climbing Mountains affords great views and tempts one to explore. We took a few walks, however, my teens always ended up on the beach in the ocean.

Fred, the caretaker, adviser, could not be more suited for this position. On arrival my family was greeted with lei's, hugs, & kisses a perfect Aloha welcome. Throughout the week he made us feel comfortable and appreciated as guest to the complex. If anything was needed I had no problem calling on him for assistance.

CONS:
1. The fee to use the washer and dryer was too costly.
2. Entering & Exiting the property was a slight hassle.

AWSOME TIME

Marie&Fran Ewa Beach, HI
Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We are military/DoD and needed a place to stay for a month and a half while we awaited our belongings. We were greeted by Fred - he is amazing. Some beautiful flowers in our room from the incredible garden, a quick tour and help bringing our 7 bags of luggage upstairs. He really came through for us when we needed something. Jill is sweet and goes the extra mile when dealing with the Government and funds. They are very "Family" friendly!!!

The apartment was really clean, the gardens incredible (My website is full of pictures of the flowers!), the beach is across the street. What more do you need?

The outdoor shower is great after swimming. Ask Fred where to eat! He knows the best spots believe me. The two property cats are sweet as can be and like to hang with you. Fred will let you use his grill when he's done which is great for saving money on coals & fuel - wella' instant cooking!

We are telling everyone who is PCSing here - you can stay at some fancy hotel sure - but if you really want to learn about ALOHA - stay here!

African Safari in Hawaii

Kilika Vancouver, BC
Review Submitted: February 27, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
My boyfriend and I stayed in the African room on the second floor for five nights. We found the apartment to be clean, affordable, quiet with simple décor. I particularly loved the wrap-around lanai, reading in the hammock and listening to the birds chirping, the waves crashing and the wind in the trees. Because of its location in the country, you can’t escape the sounds of chickens, crickets, birds, dogs and cats – we loved the authentic experience of being in the country, away from the hustle and bustle. Even as an urban light-sleeper, I found that I got used to the sounds of the roosters. It was a little more difficult to tune out the neighbours in the adjacent building (not tenants at Makaha), fighting/yelling/scolding their kids during the day… We also found that from our living area, we could hear the t.v., shower and neighbours next door.

The sky-light in the kitchenette brightened considerably the apt during the day. We found tiny ants on the counter (not unusual in Hawaii), so we made sure to keep all food in the fridge and to take the garbage out everyday.

Makaha Beach is my boyfriend’s favourite surfing beach, so the location was perfect. One morning I was out at the beach at 9am and, save for the surfers, I had the entire beach to myself – such a treat!

The staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. We booked the room the day we checked in, and even with a midnight check-in, we felt welcome and Fred greeted us with a fresh lei. My boyfriend was locked out the apt while I was at the beach one day and Fred was kind enough to help and let him in. We were also accommodated with the check-out time –my boyfriend even got to linger after he had dropped me off at the airport.

There were minor building maintenance issues – the shower head sprayed and the smoke-detector beeped in the middle of the night (low battery). My very handy boyfriend offered to fix both and we were promptly provided with a new shower head and new batteries.

The bedroom featured a double-bed (not a Queen-size bed) and two sets of French doors, allowing a nice cross-breeze. There was only one side table and lamp, which I found inconvenient (two suggested).

I loved the resident cat, a beautiful, young tortoise-shell who was super friendly. She came to welcome us, get a treat when we were cooking seafood, and even came to say goodbye.

All in all, we enjoyed our time at the Makaha Sunset Apts and we definitely would return and recommend it to others.

Hidden Gem

Into the blu cool Litchfield Park, Arizona
Review Submitted: February 23, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
My wife and I go to Hawaii every year, I even used to live there from 1986-1990. I knew about this side of the island and I knew it was peaceful, but this place takes it to another level. It's not The Royal Hawaiian, but better!!! very clean and roomy unit, Our best week in Hawaii ever! Yes there was a rooster but it added to the beauty of lush gardens and crashing waves. We slept with both sets of french doors open every night and we don't do that at home. Fred was the greatest he was very friendly answered all our questions and even told where to eat, "Hanarahs", great food and very friendly people, just down the street. We went and watched the dolphins in the mornings. Makaha's away from all the congestion just like being home but in paradise. I recommend this property to everyone. Two thumbs up Fred you rock!!!
