We loved this house!
We had never been to Nicaragua before and could not speak spanish, but have been going to Costa Rica every year & were looking for somewhere less touristy and more affordable. We arrived via Managua airport where half of us rented an SUV and the rest hired Rafael, a very professional and fun driver that was recommended by the owner to house. We realized very quickly that Nicaragua was very safe to travel through just expect some dirt roads! The house is located in a rural setting, surrounded by farmland & hills. There is a main gate leading to the secured community which is yet to be fully developed (lots of privacy!) The house is as the photos describe it, large, open & modern. We were 9 adults in total and had more than enough room & sleeping areas. There are modern amenities such as TVs, air conditioners & internet. The power does go out every now & again, however the house has a back up generator which makes it hard to notice. We met "Buzz" an American who manages some of the properties, & rented surfboards and dirt bikes from him. He can be found in the southern condos & is a resource for any information on what to do. Since the closest major grocery store is in Rivas, about a 45 min drive away, we recommend speaking with the house staff about having fresh fish, fruit & vegetables delivered to the house. It is much cheaper & there is a better selection than in the stores. We must compliment the house staff in helping us to enjoy our stay. They are very trustworthy, hardworking & personable. They made us wish we spoke spanish so we could get to know them better. They can also help you find anything! Even the local clinic past Rancho Santana in case you step on a sea urchin! As for the beach, it is located directly in front of the house. It is clean, safe, & had barely anyone else on it while we were there. There are two consistent beach breaks for surfing on either end & is good for beginners or more advanced riders. We recommend walking the beach at low tide in either direction (South takes you to Playa Gigante, which is full of patios, has a small grocery store, or North, which takes you to tide pools & a secret beach. You can also walk up a path to a large cliff for a great view!) There is a trail off the main road to the gate which mentions monkeys. You can definitely find them in the trees here. Also worth checking out is Magnific Rock (30 min drive North) it's a restaurant on a cliff with a sunset view. All in a great vacay for surf, bikes & tans
