Enjoy the sunset over Humboldt Bay from the deck of this newly restored Craftsman home. The house sits on a secluded one half acre overlooking Arcata, the bay, and the distant ocean. Large windows bring in light and views from all directions. The house was lovingly crafted in 1907 with the finest redwood available. Simple turn of the century woodwork details enhance this elegant farmhouse. The living room looks out at the redwood trees along the creek in the valley below the house.
The kitchen is fully equipped, and features Victorian cabinetry. Each bedroom has a queen bed with ultra soft bedding and cozy comforters. The bathroom has the original claw foot bath tub. The game room has a fold out pad for extra guests, and there is also a queen futon sofa in the living room.
The 'detached unit' is a cabin with another bedroom, with a queen bed, lots of windows, and a deck overlooking the Arcata area. The cabin is only offered to guests staying in the house and there is an additional nightly charge.
The property is a short walk from downtown Arcata and the Humboldt State University campus.
This tasteful home was restored and decorated by Ann. She now has 7 vacation rentals, including two on Maui. Her daughters, Elly and Mary, have helped her design, furnish, decorate and manage her vacation homes. When not working on their vacation homes, they enjoy traveling, hiking, backpacking, and rafting. Sharing their vacation homes has been a rewarding experience, with interesting and lively guests from all over the world.
Ann purchased this house in 1998
My daughters (14 and 21) and I recently stayed here and were absolutely charmed. The house is cheerful, sunny and inviting. There's a rural and private feeling, but you're a walk or bike ride away from everything you need. We loved the Farmer's Market on Saturday, followed by a hike in the Community Forest, a soak in the hot tub at Finnish Country Sauna, followed by a great dinner at 3Foods Cafe and ice cream at Arcata Scoop. My only regret is not having time to catch a Humbolt Crabs game. (Arcata's semi-pro baseball team.) We can't wait to come back. Thank you Ann!
This is a charming house in a great location. Close to all. Relatively quiet considering its proximity to HSU. A "home away from home". I would recommend that the owners install screens so that occupants could take full advantage of opening the windows when the weather permits. We look forward to another opportunity to stay at this property in the future.
My partner and I love the Craftsman. The house is spacious and light-filled, immaculate, nicely decorated, and has all the amenities one could possibly wish for. Wonderful place to cook and enjoy a meal before walking to the nearby Community Forest for a majestic hike. Or you can sit on the back porch with a wine or coffee and watch a spectacular sunset over the bay. Though everything Arcata has to offer is within arm's reach, the Craftsman is set back from the road, sheltering guests from noise and increasing one's sense of privacy. Check-in and out is effortless, and the owner is quick to answer your call should you have a question. We have stayed twice and will continue to return when we are in the area. We have done other VRBOs and this one is certainly among our favorites.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for just one night a couple days ago, and we thought it was adorable! We were able to both request and book a reservation in one day, which was both surprising and delightful. The home was clean and nicely decorated, with a beautiful view and comfortable furnishings. We stayed in to cook dinner and the kitchen was very well stocked. It's also close to downtown Arcata, and an easy drive to Trinidad and/or Moonstone Beach (which is beautiful, I highly recommend making the trip!). One word of advice: try to shut the windows early so as to avoid mosquitos. Thanks so much to the owners for providing us with a cozy place to sleep!
We stayed in this lovely home for 3 days and I wish it had been longer! The home is laid out nicely, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked.
It was nice to see the friendly neighbors (see description of pics) and there were a couple more different friendly neighbors who showed up at breakfast and dinnertime!
We would love to vacation there again.
Perfect home for a small family, everything you need for a weekend escape. Walking distance to the plaza and parks, a short car ride to the Redwoods and beaches. Eureka is a quick jaunt away too. Nice view of the bay. The home is clean, beds comfortable and kitchen well equipped. Everything you need for a weekend vacation.
