Fun family retreat-great location

My family and I had a very nice time. The owners use the lower floors of the house, and were very attentive to our needs. The top floor is a complete, separate unit and very spacious, easily handling our party of 6. You will have to navigate a full set of stairs both to get "up" to the unit and "down" to the beach level.
The owner handles booking and payments personally. Communication is very good, and there were no unpleasant surprises with the financial arrangements. Also, owner was very accommodating to us regarding our Monday to Monday rental period request, something to note if you're schedule is not of the Sat-Sat variety.
The beds were plentiful and comfortable. Unit was fully furnished and equipped with all the needed amenities. No A/C, but it wasn't needed during our trip anyway. Good ventilations and ceiling fans, however. One problem with a malfunctioning appliance was handled quickly by an owner-contracted repairman.
The house is quickly and easily accessible to both I 5 and Coast Highway, and all shopping and dining options are close by. Rite Aid and 7-11 are both very close for quick supply pickups at all hours. We tried all of the owner-recommended resturaunts and were impressed by all of them!
Great beach with smooth sand, and very private compared to other sections of the beach. Very near Legoland, which was a fun place, particularly if its hot (nice water park) and if your kids are aged 5-12. We didn't see it all in one 10-5 day. Go to the Ralph's Grocery store for nicely discounted Legoland tickets.
The description of the listing was accurate. The property was clean and well maintained. (Master shower was very nice, especially after a long day of sightseeing).
I would recommend this property to anyone who is comfortable navigating the stairs as needed. Might be OK for those without a car if bus service along the Coast Highway is found to be adequate, otherwise a rental car is useful. Off street parking in driveway is nice.
I liked having the owners on-site for most of our stay, but I suppose some may desire more privacy or less personal interaction.
All in all, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. Some hiccups with appliances and sticky doors, and the leap of faith needed to send the deposit check were the only issues I can think of to keep it from being a 5.
