Enjoy a week on the water in our river home, a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bath home located near two quaint towns along the majestic St. Croix River: Hudson, WI., and Stillwater, MN. We are just steps away from the water where a huge 12 foot by 40 foot dock awaits. If you don't feel like being outside, there is a large enclosed porch with huge windows to watch the boats slowly troll by. We have 100 feet of private frontage with a sandy beach and for those of you who worry about current, there is little, as the river is very wide and slow moving. The dock will no doubt provide hours of endless entertainment watching the boats lazily drift by. And the best part is that we are in a no wake zone, so there is no danger of boats speeding past and ruining your precious relaxation time.
Within a two minute bike ride, you can access the Afton bike trail and ride into the historic town of Afton for a huge wafflecone at Selma's or maybe you would prefer a martini at the Sail Away Cafe. You can even ride across the bridge into the state of Wisconsin to Hudson where there is excellent live theatre at the Phipps, or great dining along the river at the Pier 500 Restaurant.
We are also just a 10 minute drive from Stillwater, arguably Minnesota's greatest town, with its steep hills, great views, phenomenal antique shops and breathtaking paddleboats. There is so much to do, and so little time. One of our favorite things to do is have a cheese plate and glass of pinot noir at the Dock Cafe. Amazing food and great views. For those who like a fun place to hang out and listen to a band into the late hours of the night, PD Pappy's provides a great time.
Maybe you are an early riser, and would prefer a kayak ride (we have two). There is some amazing wild life to see. This morning, I saw a group of 12 egrets preening in a bay, and a pair of bald eagles were perched in a huge cottonwood above our home. If you love to fish, rumor has it that the walleyes bite often. We have some poles out on the porch, along with some lures. Best of luck and we can't wait to hear the fish stories.
We are also close to Interstate 94 and within 25 to 30 minutes you can be in St. Paul or Minneapolis where city life awaits. Why not take in a Twin's game, or go and see the new Guthrie Theatre, which is architecturally breathtaking. Maybe your goal is to see the place where Mary Tyler Moore threw her hat into the air. The options are limitless. There are even a couple of great shopping malls close by, either Woodbury Lakes, or the Mall of America.
Our home is definitely comfortable and clean, but not fancy. We wanted it to feel more like a cozy cabin than a city home. However, with 2600 square feet of finished space, you will have ample room to move around and enjoy your surroundings. We do have the kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc..., and we hope that you can whip up some great meals to enjoy on the huge lower level porch. We are close by and can be easily reached if there is anything else that you might need. We want your experience to be a pleasant one.
