I have successfully owned, operated, and managed rental property for eighteen years. I am actively committed to providing honest tenants with good housing.

Larry Frandson purchased this house in 2005

The Log Home has the BEST view of Lake Mille Lacs. This property is genuinely unique in its location and in the Log construction of this home. The entire interior is wood logs and knotty pine tongue and groove wood.

Staying at the Log Home is very relaxing. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake listening to the birds and watching the wildlife is very enjoyable. At night a fire in the fire pit or in the fireplace is a great way to wrap up the day at the Log Home.

Good Value, Great Views

We stayed at the log home, a family group of 15 people ages 9 to 79.
The home was clean and ready to go when we arrived. The pictures and descriptions are accurate. The home is on a high hill overlooking Mille Lacs lake. It has a large deck the entire length of the house with plenty of seating, we had brought extra folding chairs also. The view is fantastic, we saw eagles, float planes, loons and always fishing boats, also used the propane grill. There are steps going down the steep hill to the dock in the lake. Swimming is good for older children and adults, there is no "beach" for young children . The water is very clear.
The house is very large, 3 bedrooms and bathroom up, 2 bedrooms and bath down, and large master bedroom and 2 bathrooms on main level. The dining area has 2 tables pushed together, and seating for 3 at the counter, so we could all eat together. There were plenty of plates, glasses, etc, the dishwasher came in handy. There were dish clothes and towels also. There is also an empty room on the main level you could use as another bedroom if you had an air mattress.
The lower level has a large wet bar with 6 stools and small fridge and microwave which the kids loved to play restaurant. Also 2 couches and a chair, and 2 other tables with seating, again our whole group could easily fit for nightly bingo games. The pool table also got good use.
There was plenty of parking for our 6 vehicles, also put a motorcycle and fishing boat in the garage. The garage appeared orderly, must have been straightened up since last review.
We did not fish Mille Lacs as there are many smaller fishing lakes around. If we had put in at Mille Lacs we would have used the slip at Terry's Harbor.
All bed linens were provided, you do need to bring bath towels and wash cloths, hand towels and bath soap. We also needed to get extra toilet paper for the large group.
We took advantage of the near by casino for the adults, they have a great arcade for kids. We knew someone staying there, so the kids could use their pool also. There are numerous golf courses nearby, and mini golf in Garrison. The kids also liked Paul Bunyon land near Brainerd. There is shopping in all the small towns around the area. Grocery stores are at the casino and in Garrison. For a good time take your group to bar bingo and $1.50 burger night at the VFW in Garrison (Thursday nights).
We had a great week, the place was perfect for our age range. Thanks!

We had fun even though it wasn’t what we expected.

What the website says:
•Wheelchair accessible. We didn’t find that true because of all the steps. The only bedroom that didn’t take steps to get to was the master.
•The lake is 70 steps away from the lower level doors = narrow winding stairs down to the lake. Which when we counted was actually 88.
•Lakefront = Rocky shore but sand and gravel 12 feet from shore. There is no actual beach or swim area. There was rickety dock to fish off.
•Linens provided are true. Be sure to check your rental agreement because towels are not provided.
Additional info:
•The deck is the best part of the house. It had a spectacular view of the lake. The deck was very large and enough room for all of us. You could grill and look at the lake. It was great to watch the eagles. They nested in the tree next to the house.
•The kitchen and dining room was a great space to entertain. There was enough room for all of us. At one time the most of us there was 12. People came and went all week. The kitchen did have all the things we needed to cook.
•Some of the bedrooms were small, but that was okay since we were only sleeping in them. There is a bedroom in the lower level without a window. Not sure if this is legal. Though the twenty something crowd liked it. They got to sleep in late.
•We didn’t feel like this would be a good house for kids as there really is nothing for them to do. And with all the steps there is no place to put up a baby gate. The yard area was pretty small. Not enough room to play bags. And the driveway is very, very steep. Not a place for kids to ride their bikes on.
•The garage looks like someone’s personal storage area. There were a lot of items that looked broken down and junk lying around. It was very dirty and messy. There are a lot of mouse droppings in there and didn’t feel comfortable leaving our vehicles in it. We didn’t want the mice nesting in our vehicles.
•We were unsure as to who provides the toilet paper. When I texted the owner, he never responded. The property manager said the cleaner is supposed to have it there, but there wasn’t enough.
•There was 1 window air conditioning unit in the top floor for the entire house. One of the ceiling fans in the upstairs bedroom had a blade missing. A lot of the oscillating/box fans were broken.
•There is a boat slip that comes with the rental at Terry’s Harbor just a mile down the road. The boat we rented was safe there.
We had fun even if the house wasn't what was expected.

Owner's Response: I am happy to get comments both good and constructive criticism. I would like to respond to the comments made and what actions I am taking to improve the stay at the Log Home.
Wheel chair accessible: I was in a wheel chair for some time and I was able to get into and out of the Log Home albeit just using the main level. I will update the VRBO site to add that the main level only is accessible.
I will get the steps recounted and update the VRBO info. I will get some new pictures of the dock and shoreline to post on VRBO. The dock is a newer all aluminum dock that may need to be tightened up. I will get maintenance to check that out.
I have since this group stayed; added two brand new dining tables with (8) chairs each so seating for (16) is available.
The yard is not that small unless you are used to a couple acre yard. I will take more pictures for a better perspective of the yard and driveway. The driveway has an incline at the road and it is all tarred so we never had a problem getting in and out with any vehicle unless we had a snow storm. I do have two locals that plow and sand all the time in the winter.
I bought (3) brand new AC units that were installed while this group was at the Log Home. There are (1) in each end of the upstairs area, (1) on the main level and (1) large unit in the lower level.
While this group was in the Log Home the ceiling fan was being repaired. As far as box fans – I will have maintenance check on those and I will replace them as needed.
What I heard from my cleaning crew and maintenance crew was that the lady who wrote this was the only one in the group that seemed to be unhappy with the way things were. I am sorry you did not have a better time!

Sincerely,
Larry

We rented this log home as a mini-family reunion. There was plenty of room for all of us. (13 of us kids and adults). Kids loved swimming in the lake. View is AMAZING from the deck. Owner was extremely helpful. Cabin is beautiful and very private. I would recommend this rental especially if you have a larger group.

Great place for a guy weekend

We had 11 guys up for a fishing/guys weekend and had a great time. Everything was as we expected from the listing and Larry was very cooperative with answering my questions as the dates approached for our visit. It was very clean when we arrived and we didn't have any issues. The location can't be beat. The ice fishing was productive right out in front of the cabin (about 300 yards out) with many jumbo parch being caught. We had a great breakfast at Twin Pines just up the road too.
A larger table would be nice for groups our size but it wasn't that big of deal. The lower level was perfect for a bunch of guys hanging out in the evening during the winter. Had cards, pool and a movie going and nobody was getting in anybodys way. It isn't cheap, but it is a great value. Everyone is looking forward to getting the place again next year.

New Year's Weekend Getaway 2012

New Year's Weekend Getaway 2012

We loved this cabin! There were 7 couples and 4 children under 2, and this cabin worked perfectly! It was big and spacious, with an excellent recreational/bar room in the basement. The cabin was beautiful, clean and well stocked with everything we needed (dishes, blankets, cards, wood...) And the price was very reasonable. The owner was quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had prior to our stay, and the reservation process went very smoothly. We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone-we couldn't stop mentioning how we would all love to return ourselves again one day!
