Jane Lambert purchased this cottage in 2000
In order to have a comfy holiday home with character, away from the UK cold and wet, very close to the sea, and with the best possible choice of restaurants within ten minutes drive.
Privacy (without isolation) is one of the outstanding qualities of Columbus. Close proximity to the sea, dining out, diving, snorkeling and Golf make the cottage a wonderful holiday home.
My husband and I were in need of sun/sea/recreation and we booked Columbus Cottage through VRBO. We found that it exceeded all expectations. We loved the privacy of the pool area and gardens, and we used the Gazebo for our breakfasts. The house was charming, comfortable and very well equipped. The accessibility of the sea was brilliant. My husband enjoyed the fishing, and it was a wonderful 'getaway' before our first baby arrives. We will be back.
My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation spent at "Columbus Cottage" The whole experience; the Island, the house/pool, amazing beach, the restaurants and the people really exceeded our expectations! We immediately felt so comfortable and relaxed in your peaceful Island paradise. The location was perfact - even without a car, the taxi works ok- we now know what to expect for next time! It's Island Time...
Spent the mornings at the beach, short walk nice way to start the day. The beach is amazing and private... afternoons poolside :), and went into town for dinner usually timing with a sunset view over the water. Many wonderful restaurants to choose from!
We didnt feel the need to do any tours, golf or explore as expected since we were perfactly content with the total bliss right there within easy reach!
Denise was very warm and welcoming, genuinely concerned for our well being - she thoughtfully had a bouquet of flowers and an anniversary card awaiting us when we arrived! - and was nice enough to make arrangements with a taxi driver for our needs throughout the week.
We loved the beautiful furnishings in the 'cottage' - But have to say, the private pool was our favorite perk! The setting is very private even though there are neighbors on both sides -can't see homes from property. Thank you also for providing the WIFI - It was helpful to be able to check in. The home also provided plenty of security if that is a concern - although it's in a quiet neighborhood - we felt fine..
This was our 1st "home" rental so we were initially a bit cautious but Jane was very personable, responsive and provided us with plenty of info in advance to satisfy our concerns...seem like lovely people.
Looking forward to a return visit!
What a wonderful spot, the water is the most amazing color and the beaches were deserted (even in peak season). The island is surrounded by a reef that keeps the water really calm, it makes for great snorkeling and scuba. We alternated days at the beach and the pool. The cottage was quiet, the private pool (not heated) was great to laze around in the afternoons.
We had our 4 month old son with us and had no problems. Columbus Cottage was a pleasant place to stay, it was within a few minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes by car to the grocery store, restaurants and shops. The beaches were some of the best we have seen, so quiet and the colors of the water and white sand were stunning...better than Hawaii or Thailand!
The cottage is definitely someone's home versus a vacation rental, we felt that the interior was a little cluttered with "stuff" and there was a lot of very large furniture. Some of the small appliances like the coffee maker and hair dryer could be updated and and some of the personal items could be removed (photos etc..)
Denise the care taker was very pleasant and helpful, we had a terrible last day when the toilets broke but she worked hard to clean and fix the problem, it was a shame that our last day was spoiled by the mess but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm for Providenciales.
The grocery store was excellent and we used the bbq a few times. The restaurants on the island were very good, we enjoyed sunsets at various hotel bars and restaurants along Grace Bay. We tended to eat early but were astonished at the ease at which we had ocean front seating in every place. It is such a laid back island their idea of "busy" is not what most people would call busy, it is the absolute opposite! We found the locals to be warm and friendly. The laid back vibe was a huge plus for us but people looking for a developed island with more activities, hotels, shopping and restaurants might find it a little limited.
We enjoyed driving to the restaurants with local flavor (beach front shacks) and trying the local fish and conch, all delicious. The island seems to be thriving and if you are one of the people that struggles to enjoy a 5 star vacation when you are surrounded by poverty then you will like this place. There is very low unemployment and although the island is small and underdeveloped we didn't see the poverty associated with other caribbean islands. We may not stay at Columbus cottage again but we will be back to Turks and Caicos for sure!
We were very pleased with the cottage - comfortable and charmingly furnished, and private too. It was lovely to have dinner on the wrap-around veranda surrounded by the well-kept tropical garden, and the pool and bedroom a/c were a great boon given the hot weather. The beautiful local beach was very uncrowded and often there would be no-one else in sight. Altogether a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday and we would certainly stay again.
