The Fresh Breeze Inn is a cool and comfortable oasis fringed by jungle. It is an easy seven-minute walk through the colorful and safe village to the beach and restaurant area. Your new Chacala home sits on the quiet hilltop catching the afternoon breeze and affording you a stunning panoramic view of the sky, jungle, mountains, bay and the ocean stretching to the horizon. From your patio watch the fishing boats come in and the occasional pods of whales playing in the bay. Your kitchen comes stocked with fresh-ground regional coffee, bottled purified drinking water, cooking supplies such as salt, pepper, oil, sugar, and a full array of utensils. Sip your favorite drink, sit back and enjoy the perfect small-town Mexican beach experience.
Many bird watchers flock to the Inn because it has some of the best habitat for birds in front of and beside the Inn to be found in this vicinity. Over 60 species were identified here in less than a week from the front patio. I have a list of Chacala birds which is available.
The third floor bungalow (#3) fills the top or third floor of the Inn with a view in every direction and has a large private balcony facing the ocean. One must book early for this unit. It was usually entirely booked before September first. Next season it is already rented from Nov. 15 through to March 15, 2016. It generally rents biweekly or more for $65 US a night or for four weeks or more for $60 a night. The two main floor bungalows (#1 & 2) have an ocean and village-jungle views with a patio in front facing the ocean and a shady garden behind the Inn. Minimum stay is for one week or more is $57 per night. For four weeks or more the nightly price is $50 per night. The roof top patio which is available to all guests has an incredible views. All apartments have full kitchens with high quality coffee provided. The Fresh Breeze Inn was completed three years ago, so it is contemporary and clean. It is invitingly decorated with colorful Mexican tiles, a hand-painted ceramic sink and has fully-screened windows and large patio doors with ocean views in every apartment. Although rarely needed during high season, there is a ventilation fan system. The beds have high-quality mattresses, so you will sleep soundly after a day of adventuring or relaxing, secluded from the bustle and dust of the town center. The bird watching from the Inn is exceptional. Sit on your patio and identify up to 70 species. The garden area adjoining the jungle is a great place to sit and enjoy the cool breeze and shade in the afternoons. It features local fruits, flowers and tropical plants. There is a terracotta barbecue and night lighting in the garden available for guests to use.
Your American host, Lance Thorne, lives on site and loves to share his extensive knowledge of the region's hiking trails, bird watching sites, local restaurants, fishing opportunities, tours, markets and shopping, banking services, and regional transportation. Maps of local trails are also available. At the Fresh Breeze Inn, you enjoy the quiet privacy and comfort of a fully-contained suite with its own entrance, as well as the assistance of a helpful English-speaking host, happy to answer your questions about the region or translate Spanish.
Just ninety minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, you turn down a winding road leading into a magical paradise of blossoming mango groves, colorful wildflowers and a misty green lake filled with exotic birds. The village of Chacala is a friendly and authentic little fishing town, a well-kept secret hidden from the outside world until the recent road. Chacala will charm you with its minstrel mariachi bands, cobblestone streets, family-run beach restaurants serving the day's catch, homemade salsa, ice-cold beer and the perfect margarita. Local people are outgoing and helpful, and it is safe to walk around at night. The half-moon bay of soft sand is fringed by a picturesque palm plantation. The water is warm, inviting and safe.
Minutes from the activity and amenities of town, the Fresh Breeze Inn is a cool, comfortable paradise in Chacala, your new favorite vacation town.

Welcome to the Fresh Breeze Inn. Let me introduce myself: my name is Lance , and for most of my adult life I have made high-end, one-of-a-kind furniture in rural Southern Oregon. I Have been living about half of the time here in Chacala for the past 8 years, and love its laid-back rustic charm. I live at the Fresh Breeze Inn so I am available night and day. I look forward to sharing this very special spot with you. I hike the local trails frequently and sometimes lead hikes from Chacala to various destinations. I am really enjoying my new found vocation as Inn Keeper. Being a jack of all trades allows me to deal with just about any problem that comes up. I really enjoy meeting new people and I get a kick out of helping visitors 'find what they are looking for'.
Lance Thorne purchased this bungalow in 2009
Previously I had traveled extensively in Mexico, but until I arrived in Chacala, had no intention of buying land in the country. But when I first visited Chacala, the inexplicable happened: I fell in love with the people and the town. It immediately felt like home. Within weeks I purchased my plot and began planning to build. It's been an adventure which has resulted in the Fresh Breeze Inn! I first opened for business on January first, 2010, and enjoyed a successful first season - as well as my new role as resident inn-keeper.
The Fresh Breeze Inn is unique in enjoying a breath-taking panoramic 360-degree view. The cool afternoon breeze afforded by its hilltop location is a rare luxury, and the tropical garden which lies behind the Inn, and adjoins the jungle, offers you a shady quiet spot to read or relax. Lance made the local hiking trail maps and village maps so he's the one to speak with for local information. The birding from the Inn is considered to be the some of the best in the village. The Inn is located on a hill over looking the village in a pleasant neighborhood of beautiful houses with elegant stonework and flowering gardens.
We had a wonderful week in Chacala staying at the Fresh Breeze Inn! The views are amazing from the Inn, it is in a very peaceful location. We enjoyed the patio, the roof top deck, and the shady back garden with the beautiful plantings. We were entertained by the "chachalacas" in the morning, large territorial birds that roost in the trees next to the Inn. Lance is a friendly and wonderful host who has thought of everything to make a wonderful week in Chacala ! He is so knowledgable about the area and provides lots of specially made maps for hikes and excursions. Since we love to explore, he even loaned us his very detailed, large scale map of the area to aid in our exploring. A wonderful week thanks to Lance, the beauty of the area, and the warmth of the local folks.
What a find! Just 90 minutes north of the hustle, bustle of over-crowded
Puerto Vallarta is the better beach at Chacala. My wife and I had a great stay at Lance's Fresh Breeze Inn. We enjoyed our apartment, Lance's warm, helpful hospitality, and especially the various maps he has made of the area. We found these quite useful. We recommend the marvelous beach, the quaint village, and the Fresh Breeze Inn.
We just returned from a wonderful week stay in Apartment 1 at the Fresh Breeze Inn. To begin with Lance is an exceptionally amiable and generous host. He is always available to answer questions and to share his extensive knowledge of the area. He is happy to loan out beach equipment and he even provides detailed maps of the town and surrounding hiking trails, as well as bird identification booklets in each apartment. The apartment itself was entirely clean and comfortable painted in bright tropical colors, with lots of windows for ventilation. We had everything that we needed to prepare meals when we wanted to, and a lovely furnished patio to enjoy them on. The location could not have been better. The beach was only a short walk away down cobblestone streets, and we were happy to return each day to this quiet residential part of the village surrounded only by the sounds of the jungle. We are ready to return again!
Nine miles off highway 200, and bam! the pavement ends. Your amiable taxi driver is peering up driveways and hailing passersby, and growling up a cobbled lane towards La Posada Brisa Fresca. You may never want to leave. This is the daily passage: patio to sand, to warmest salty water, to Chico's or Las Brisas for a weeping cerveza, then back into the water, to bob, float, or boogie, as the whim takes you. Little children giggle and daydream in the waves; plump, happy people stroll around, slowly, with no watches on their wrists, and smile at you in another language. Some days, a Huichol couple sit in front of the store, intent on their beading, which you can purchase for painfully low prices, and bring home some ingenious sunshine-and-flowers to wear on your wrist, or your heart. Go now.
We stayed in Chacala at the Fresh Breeze Inn a few weeks ago and we already miss it! We stayed in Unit #1 on the ground floor and had a wonderful, relaxing time. Lance is a fantastic host - always willing to direct you towards a hike, take you to town, or guide you on short trips around, including to see some awesome petroglyphs.
We found the unit very large and well designed with UV Filtered water for the entire unit, a great shower, lots of fans, and super quiet and private. The kitchen is fully equipped (including with a nice stove, toaster over, blender, and coffee maker) and is easy to cook and eat in! The filtered water and modern amenities made the trip that much more comfortable. The back and front patios are also really nice for drinking coffee in the morning or a beer in the afternoon. Beautiful flowers, a sea view, and a fresh breeze (yes, there really is one) top it all off.
Chacala's beach is wonderful, everyone is very friendly, and we can't wait to go back!
...and hopefully not our last! We had a great time in Apartment 2 for one week with everything we needed. We couldn't have asked for a better host: friendly, helpful and informative...a really nice guy. He provided little touches like local coffee every morning, help with shopping in Las Varas for groceries, information on hikes and activities in the area, and tips for getting back to the airport. Chacala itself is a quiet little fishing village and was just the place we wanted with a small, beautiful beach, calm waters, friendly locals, rustic cobblestone roads, and a great whale watching tour. Lots of birds to watch while we sat on the beautiful patio, in the back garden, or on the roof top which is right next to "Gringo" trees (nicknamed for their red, peeling bark according to our host). Can't wait to go back to Fresh Breezes Inn but we'd like to stay longer next time!
Whale watching, excellent bird watching right from the Inn; with over 100 species identified., craft and farmers market, trail beside local lake with rentable kayaks, rentable kayaks for exploring the ocean, a local Mexican birding guide, trails through the jungle to remote beaches and a picturesque volcanic crater. Van tours are available by Mexican locals to petroglyphs, a jungle boat ride, neighboring towns, etc. Boat tours are available for surfing at Caleta a well known left hand break, whale watching, remote beaches, fishing, etc.
The perfect half-moon beach usually has few people on it. The calm, protected bay is ideal for swimming, with invitingly warm water and no dangerous currents.
