We are farmers in upstate NY but also love to dive. We have purchased Happy Hours as an eventual retirement home, but in the meantime will offer our home to guests when we cannot be here.
Sabra purchased this house in 2013
Happy Hours was the 'total package' when we were shopping for properties on the Brac. After house shopping all day, we just felt like we were home as soon as we walked through the house and out to the beach.
Best place to unwind. Low key, low drama, no noise except the ocean.
Star-filled nights in the pool allow total privacy
Island time is quiet and drama free
You can dive right out of your own back yard
"Happy Hours" rental is very comfortable. The home is just as described, only better. The waves lapping right outside the sunroom door is relaxing. The pool is large and goes to a depth of 6 feet, very usable. The living room, kitchen, and breakfast area are open and airy making the space feel very large. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the home giving privacy to the occupants. The half bath is a welcomed bonus! The home is located about one third of the way east towards the bluff from the airport. Perfect location; a little bit away from the airport, but not too far away from the restaurants. The Property Manager, Van, was very helpful our first night by helping us grab some groceries and showing us a restaurant and the dive gear rental shop. A great place to call home while exploring the island and all it has to offer.
We spent a week vacationing on the Brac and very much enjoyed our stay at "Happy Hours". It was everything that was stated in the description. Both the owner and manager were very easy to reach and corresponded quickly to any questions that I had before and during our stay.
Van, the property manager on the island, met us at the airport and waited for us to secure our rental car. We then followed him to the grocery store so we could pick up a few items before he showed us to the house and gave us a tour of the property. The bottle of wine that was waiting for us from the owners was nice and very much appreciated. Van made us feel very welcomed and was a good ambassador both for "Happy Hours" and the "Island".
The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we need for our stay. The view of the water was fabulous. This is a very quiet and secluded location and we loved having our own private pool. I had brought some CD's to play and it was nice as there are speakers in the pool area...perfect to enjoy Jimmy Buffet songs and your favorite cocktail on the pool patio. BTW, the sky filled with stars are amazing at night! The weather was perfect during our stay and there was always a nice breeze blowing.
We found all the people on the island amazingly friendly. We felt extremely safe on the island no matter where we went. The island is very easy to get around on so no stress of getting lost. Just be mindful as you drive on the opposite side of the road!
Our favorite restaurant was the Brac Reef Resort on the West end of the island. You cannot beat the view from their outside bar and I highly recommend their Jerk Chicken Wings. We also had a nice dinner on Saturday night at Alexander's which was a outdoor BBQ...all you can eat ribs, chicken and fish plus side dishes.
All in all we were pleased with our stay and look forward to visit again and enjoy more "Happy Hours"!
My husband and I stayed at Happy Hours with family and friends for 10 days in June and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is amazing - very clean and well maintained. It was the perfect island vacation spot. The place came with countless amenities. It definitely felt like home away from home. The local manager Van was extremely nice and helpful as well. We had an issue with water which was sorted professionally and satisfactorily. I would recommend Happy Hours to friends and family of all ages. As for nearby restaurants, my husband is vegan and I am vegetarian so it was difficult to eat out but Happy Hours came furnished with a great kitchen and outside grill so we made a lot of meals at the house. We did have the Sunday Brunch at Brac Reef Resort which was excellent and well-priced. There is so much to do in Cayman Brac. Lots of nature walks and strenuous climbs, fantastic caves and world-class diving and snorkeling. We brought 6 surfboards and a skateboard over from Grand Cayman and we were in the water or hiking/climbing every day. Happy Hours made it easy to relax too with very comfy furniture and satellite television! There is one neighboring house on the seaside and a house across the street but no neighbors to the other side. I think it's safe to say we'll try to stay at Happy Hours from now on when we visit Cayman Brac, already planning another trip!
This was my wife's and I third trip to Cayman Brac. We stayed at Happy Hours the last two trips. This seaside rental is a beautiful piece of property. We enjoyed all of it's amenities to the fullest.Van our property manager met us at the airport, made sure we had everything to check in. He checked with us during our stay and was very prompt in addressing any questions or concerns we had and of course brought us a bottle of wine to toast the start of our vacation. My wife and I love this island with it's rugged beauty. Everyday we would choose an area of the island to explore or snorkel at, grab lunch items at a local market, return to our beautiful house on the beach and sip rum punches by the pool. Enjoy the warmth of the sun and the subtle island breezes. And as the sun would lower in the sky we would hop in the car and go to the west end near the airport and watch the glorious sunsets. After taking in the beauty we would either make supper at the house (the kitchen has everything you need) Or eat out. On Sunday night the Brac beach resort has a buffet reasonable priced and delicious. Tuesday night we ate at the Alexander Hotel and enjoyed their Barbecue at the outside bar and enjoyed the sweet sounds of Perry a local musician who played a beautiful Takamine guitar .The people of this island are very gracious and respectful. We rented kayaks one day from Sister Island Sports and kayaked the north side of the island, the waters are beautiful and sealife abundant. Another day we took advantage of the boat ferry from Sister island sports and spent a day exploring and snorkeling Little Cayman Island what a beautiful island also During our stay this time my wife sustained an injury and we had to make use of the local hospital, we are both medical professionals and were so impressed with their health system, highly trained professional staff and gracious care she received. We had such a beautiful, restful time there and look forward to our next trip and our next stay at Happy Hours Villa.
We had a great time...the pictures do not do this house justice. It has everything you could possibly need. We had our 9 month old with us and Van sourced a crib and high chair for us. Perry and Van were excellent, very attentive.
We will be renting Happy Hours again no doubt. I toasted ( my husband doesn't drink) the Owners at our first sunset and thanked them for this fab house.
Very very clean in and out...we were so impressed with everything. You get your monies worth!
We live in Grand Cayman and my husband is from the Brac originally so we are here often, we usually stay at one of the condos down the road, but now we are spoilt we want to stay here every time !
We did bring our own meat from GCM as we were feeding 5 people and food is very expensive here, we found it much more econonimcal.
One thing I would have to mention are the beds. We found them very hard. We used the sofas to sleep and padded the bed in the kids room. We made it (slightly sore) but thought maybe we are just used to our memory foam mattress.
Thanks again. Can't wait to be callin Debbie with our next reservation.
I would recommend this house to any one coming to the Brac.
Our family stayed at Happy Hours for two weeks and the house fit our needs exceedingly well. We have a three kids, including a baby, and Van and Tammy (the on-island hosts/managers) were helpful in sourcing a high chair and crib for us to use during our stay. The house and the grounds are definitely "as-advertised": clean, new and well-maintained. The ocean makes for a spectacular backdrop and view, but know that you'll not likely be doing much swimming or snorkeling here,or anywhere on the south shore of CB, for that matter. The beach consists of large stones and there's little sea life. Also, the beach is sadly cluttered with debris and garbage from Jamaica and Haiti. This is not the owners' fault, as this is ubiquitous on the entire length of the south shore, but it is certainly a blemish on an otherwise idyllic setting. The pool is absolutely wonderful. The depths are kid-friendly and it's well-maintained. We used it many times a day, especially when we were housebound while our baby was napping. Make sure that you rent a car as there are no amenities within a couple of miles (all of the services on CB are along the north shore of the island). We had no issues or problems of real significance during our stay at Happy Hours: the barbecue grill needs replacing because it is broken down and we never did determine whether we were responsible for consumables like toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap and the like (we ended up buying these ourselves). The dishwasher works poorly, but this is essentially because of the low water pressure on the island.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with Happy Hours and would recommend it without hesitation. The value quotient is high, as well.
Iguana Watching and Brown Booby watching (spectacular soaring birds). Hike out to the end of the bluff for spectacular views.
