House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-9)

Uphome Retreat is a custom-built home on family land near the Yadkin Valley Wine Country. The 2½ story home was built using many items reclaimed from nearby Union Grove School building (circa 1929).

This retreat is very secluded in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and only approx 60 miles north of Charlotte. In addition to over 30 wineries in close proximity, the community of Union Grove is home to the legendary “Cook Shack” which offers free bluegrass music by award winning musicians every Saturday morning.

The barn-red tin-roofed home sleeps up to 6 and can expand to sleep 9 (with * special arrangements). A huge covered front porch is a special feature of the cozy home. Exposed beams and granite counter topped island are features on the main floor which has a large great room and bath. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms, bath, and laundry room. The attic is finished and offers more sleeping accommodations. It is a great room to relax and features a large arched window (reclaimed from the school).

This home has central heat and ac, ceiling fans, and a full kitchen. An SUV is recommended (but not mandatory) as this home is located down a long gravel road. Home is stocked with many board games, cards, and a foosball table for entertainment. Fish carvings by the property owner decorate this unique getaway. Though this home has all the modern conveniences, it is best described as UNPLUGGED as it is quiet and peaceful. The only noises you will hear are from nature...so if you are looking to GET AWAY from the hectic pace of life for a weekend or a week...look no further... this is the place for you!! Wine Tours can be arranged for additional fees with your own private guide.

This property is located in the distinct Swan Creek Wine Appelation. Convenient to wineries and tours can be arranged. Also, convenient to Merle Fest Music Festival in Wilkesboro and Van Hoy Fiddlers Grove Festival in Union Grove. Enjoy Saturday morning Jam Sessions at the "Cook Shack" in Union Grove. We had a wonderful weekend in this beautiful, interesting home. The home was very clean and well-maintained. The owners were helpful and easy to work with. We loved the antiques and the fact that the home was secluded yet close to nearby attractions. The attractions that we enjoyed most were the Cook Shack, the Amish General Store, and Laurel Gray, Raffildini and Dobbins Creek wineries. I have recommended this property to several friends already. I would think that you would need a four-wheel drive to navigate the driveway during the winter.

We returned today from our stay at your lovely cabin. We had an enjoyable time. When the heavy rains came on Friday, we were so glad we weren't camping at the Fiddler's Festival...but had dry beds to come home to! We loved the porch and enjoyed playing music out there. You certainly took care of everything we might need there. Thanks for your part in our successful trip.
