Destin Vacation Rental house

This is a very mixed review as the feelings on the stay was very mixed. Have rented in Destin many times over ten years thru realty company, first time thru private owner. On the Plus side of the house - Pictures are very accurate. Decorating is beautiful in every room! Loved,loved, Loved the porches with plenty of furniture for everyone. The privacy and quiet of the lot with landscaping was beautiful. However, the down side to this house gave us pause a few times during our stay. We found cigarette and cigar butts and beer cans in the yard upon arrival, burn holes in some outdoor furniture, chips in all the dishes, no plastic or tupperware for storing food, a towel rack that kept falling down, half a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, no gas grill as in the ad, no laundry soap as in the ad, a broken pullout sofa bed, and the linens on the murphy bed had not been changed. We had also asked if this was a neighborhood where we could walk at night with children since our family likes to take walks- elementary age and up. We were told yes. There are no sidewalks at all. We had to either walk in the street or unmanaged yards til we crossed the busy street to get to sidewalk even to go to the beach. This was dangerous, especially at night. The Wharf is a 15 minute drive away not within walking distance like we thought. We enjoyed Fudpuckers where kids can feed the gators and eat dinner - they have a new teen night, there is a great coffee shop around the corner, mostly just souvenir shops near the house but the CVS pharmacy is convenient for picking up anything you need. TIP- get a Winn Dixie card if you don't have one for grocery shopping. You'll save money every time. Try a fishing charter with the kids and bring home the fish for supper. They clean what you catch and it is a whole day of fun! The sun has changed over the years so if you haven't been in a while be sure to switch your sunblock to 45 or 50 - you'll be glad you did. Blistering on the first day will ruin the rest of your week. Oh! That reminds me the shed out back of the house is a nice idea, I just wish they would audit through it and throw out the broken things. The shed kept coming apart. We had to take everything out and reorganize it just to get it shut after looking thru a few things. It's a neat idea though - just like the kitchen brochure and menu drawers that we ended up organizing. Overall I could do with less chotchkes and more maintenance for my money.
