We bought the property in 2006 and finished the house (2 condos), in May 2010.
Our 4 children love the area, beach, river, jungle and environment. It's common to see big Iguanas, coatimundi, (long tailed, cute, in raccoon family) lizards, colorful birds, and fruit you've never tasted before.
The biggest draw was the beach, and the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world. Ten miles from your beach to the sea is gorgeous snorkeling, and fishing. The main reef is about 12 miles from shore, with sport fishing, scuba diving, whale watching, etc.
Famous for it's friendliness is the village of Hopkins. They all have a smile on their face, you never meet a stranger, and it's safe to walk the streets at night.
The restaurants have great, very reasonably priced food. Fresh fish is available daily at many of the restaurants. Lobster is available except Feb 15 - June 15.
Truly an adventure you'll never forget. Many have said that it's the best vacation they have ever had. We have the best drinking
in the country
Janette Melvin purchased this condo in 2010
We visited Belize for three weeks with the first two planned and the last week open. We enjoyed the condo and Hopkins area so much we decided to spend our last week where we were. As far as value, we paid more for the car we rented than the studio we stayed at. The condo was better than advertised and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting this area. A vehicle was very helpful but extremely expensive. Would strongly recommend not using Avis as we just got an additional bill for over $700 after paying them over $80/day. Another excellent restaurant is the Sandy Beach restaurant that is right on the beach and very reasonable. If you like to kayak we paddled over to another resort for a breakfast buffet with the added thrill of seeing a couple of grazing Manatees that surfaced about 20 feet from us. If you like to ride horses, Outpost Trails is a very special place with good horses and only a couple of miles South of the Sittee River turnoff from the Southern Highway. The condo is a special place that greatly enhanced our visit in this area.
The family, 9 of us, enjoyed the condo for 15 days. It was absolutely beautiful.
The privacy, the beach, the facilities, the local people all contributed so much to our wonderful vacation. The condo was more then what we expected, large enough for all of us, the grand children loved the shallow beach and we all enjoyed the locale. We visited the ruins, activity sites and the villages throughout the country and used Patrick for snorkeling for 2 separate trips. We kayak in the ocean and ate meals throughout the local village and other areas. Marto and Nicolasa helped us when we needed it, offering advice on where to go and what to see and offered us all kinds of info. and stories. We enjoyed Hopkins and its people and appreciated their hospitality, help and company.
All of us would recommend this place very highly to any family who wants to enjoy either/or a quiet, busy or active vacation because that is exactly what we did. We saw 90% of the country, swam, snorkeled. kayak, viewed the ruins, saw the banana plantations, orange and fruit groves, drove past the acres and acres of sugarcane saw the wildlife including huge snakes in the wild but still we rested and enjoyed the private beach and local dining places and retired to quiet evenings at our beautiful condo. My wife and I were witnesses and stood for a lovely couple to get married whose friends had to go home before time Thanks to all who made our vacation such a memorable event.
Our family just spent 12 wonderful days in Hopkins. This is the first time we have rented a private home and were anxious. The owners were amazing at providing details of what to expect while at their rental in Hopkins and in the village. Thanks Bekah & Vicki! The condos were more spacious and beautiful than the photos convey, but the best part ws the privacy (we rented the entire place)! Definately need a vehicle when it rains - we rented a truck at the airport and are so glad we did- we were able to tour around quite a bit of the country. We can't say enough praise for the caretakers Marto and Nicolasa who were so loving and helpful. Their presence was an added bonus to our already awesome time in Belize.
By chance we found Belize Beach Condos on the VRBO website and after emailing a few times with the owner, we decided to book it for a week in December 2013 to celebrate a retirement, a graduation and an anniversary. There were 7 of us - all adults. This house is EXACTLY as it is portrayed on the website. HUGE, clean, well decorated, new, ON the beach, with a view of the ocean from paradise. The owner gave us an 11 page information sheet with references to ANYTHING we would want to do - all very helpful and accurate. There were kayaks and bicycles for our use. And the caretakers were VERY helpful - hooked us up with a river cruise and gave great general advice. The only drawback I could imagine is that it would NOT be good for persons with disabilities as there are lots of stairs, but otherwise you can trust this owner and this site! The location was great - just south of Hopkins, which is a very authentic small village - not touristy - in the middle of the country - with very friendly people. It was about a 3 hour drive from the Belize City airport; about 3 hours to Cahal Pech archeological site; about 2 hours to Placencia, where we snorkeled and went scuba diving through Seahorse Dive shop, which we also HIGHLY recommend. I suggest you rent a 4 wheel drive car - we used Jabiru at the owner's recommendation and it worked out fine, - because this house is not at all close to a bus line. The roads are VERY rough, you often have to drive through some water (it was the end of the rainy season - but even a rainy day on the beach is better than a sunny day in the midwest!), but that was a fun part of the adventure. The caretakers cooked us a yummy meal on our first night there, at our request. There is a "supermarket" in Hopkins for groceries. For restaurants, we recommend Innie's for authentic Garifuna food, Frogs Point and Iris' Sunnyside Up, Brother's Pizza and Barracuda Bar / Grill in Hopkins; Wendy's Creole restaurant in Placencia, and Manatee Lookout in Ladyville, just east of the the airport entrance outside Belize City. We did take Malaria pills - but not sure if we really needed to, and got Typhoid, Polio and dTAP. The water in the house and restaurants seemed to be fine, but we did boil it 10 minutes in the beginning just to be sure. No one got sick! All of our family HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Belize Beach Condos!!
We stayed here during Thanksgiving break with our college-age kids and they all loved it. We had the whole top floor and it was much larger than the pictures show. the kitchen is huge and we had a washer/dryer in the unit to do laundry. The kids had their own suite and could be separate from the parents, so we were all happy. Even though the sun didn't come out much so we could enjoy the beach, the views are still great. Lots of privacy and all the amenities are there. I wish we could have stayed longer to go kayaking and explore a little more, but the kids had to get back to school. You can't beat this condo for the price. If you are going to do the activities in Belize, ATM caves, ziplining, etc. it is centrally located so you can get to each area within an hour. We drove a lot but we also saw a lot of the country.
The onsite manager, Marto, was there to help with anything you need-we needed a jump start one morning and he saved us a lot of time and agony since he had cables. Great place!!! thanks Jim and Vicki.
We stayed in the Belize beach condo's studio room this past May for 10 days of scuba diving and were able to catch sight of whale sharks. We stayed at the studio with has a kitchenette which was comfortable even with 2 adults and 3 teenagers The water was practically at the doorstep with a nice little private beach. The beach had two hammocks & beach chairs. They have kayaks for guests use and my daughters had a lovely time paddling around Stann Creek down to the marina. We all went out into a wonderful lagoon twice at night to 'play' with the bioluminescence. The caretakers - Marto & Nikki- are very accommodating and helpful. Vicki is the perfect host - she supplies you with all the info about Hopkins, where to eat, all sightseeing opportunities, recommendations on people to contact and prices to boot! We meandered down to the village to shop and sample local delicious fare. We had the most wonderful time with all Hamanasi diving and boat crew especially diving instructor, Terill Castillo who is now a member of the town council. Totally amazing people and all in all a wonderful place to stay. We enthusiastically recommend Belize Beach Condo to everyone we know.
Go fishing, snorkeling or scuba diving at the reef. Hike to waterfalls and swim in the pools below. Strap on a headlamp, and assisted by your guide, explore one of the many caves in Belize. Some hiking involved. Go to one of several ziplines. Get a massage or visit a spa.
