AFFORDABLE ECO FRIENDLY COTTAGE ON 3 ACRES !

Kilauea Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Affordable dream vacation in 'Lemuria' (that's what we call our three acres:'Lemurian Gardens'). We offer a charming B&B cottage on the north shore of the mythical, mystical, magical healing 'Garden Island' of Kauai.

Enjoy the serenity of our cottage in the country, close to the North Shore's many gorgeous beaches. We provide a 'Green' environment for those who want and love the extras that make your vacation special. We provide purified water, cotton linens, environmentally safe bath and kitchen needs.

We are not a traditional Bed & Breakfast that serves a daily breakfast but we provide a basket with fruit picked from our land, organic teas and coffee, chocolates and granola.

Our covered lanai provides a wonderful spot for soaking in the hot tub after a long hike along the Na Pali Coast, for dining outside or enjoying your morning coffee or tea while listening to a nearby stream and bird songs.

We have a wonderful orchard with a variety of fruits that guests are welcome to pick in season including: banana, mango, lime, lemon, soursop, star apple, moya, avocados, mac nuts, papayas and grapefruit. Ask about picking produce from our organic garden.

A perfect location for quick access to 4 beaches in just a few minutes drive, including Larsen's, Kalihiwai, Anini and Kahili (Rock Quarry) beaches and Moloa'a Bay. About 12 minutes drive to wonderful, quaint Hanalei town and exquisite Hanalei Bay.

Kilauea town (2 miles) has the best bakery/coffee shop on the Island and Kong Lung, a fabulous emporium of excellent taste, a well stocked health food store, deli/market, video/ice cream parlor, Kilauea Fish Market (the best wraps and meals), 2 clothing stores not to mention other fine stores. A Hawaiian style miniature golf is now a feature fun spot in Kilauea town.

This is a testimonial from two of our very happy guests: 'My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. All I can say is: 'wow'. We couldn't have asked for more! What we wanted was a quiet stay with lots of privacy: what we got was just that, not to mention how breathtakingly beautiful the land is. This is such a sweet little cottage! Clean, homey, comfortable bed and couch, good coffee maker (very important!). We loved the hot tub each evening after a long day of exploring. We loved that we could hear the sounds of the jungle at night and never got disturbed by anyone else. Harvest was available if we asked after her, but other than that we never saw a soul. This cottage is truly a slice of heaven, and I guarantee you will plot ways to stay forever like we did! Thanks Harvest!'

Jim & Harvest have lived in the Islands for over 37 years and LOVE IT ! We have raised our 3 sons on our 3 acres on the North Shore and have made it into our sustainable ( getting there ) paradise. We are blessed to have a guest house that we can share with travelers like yourself so that you can experience the Beauty of our Garden Island. The Owner purchased this cottage in 1993

Imagine yourself walking through the orchard picking the ripe fruit or just simply sitting on our cottage lanai in the evening listening to the night sounds.

PARADISE :)

  • 5 of 5
Throughout the booking process Harvest was attentive and made things seamless. We can't say enough good things about this cottage! The treats that Harvest left for us upon our arrival were greatly appreciated. It was private, cozy, clean, and surpassed our expectations completely. Yes, we had a family of geckos living with us, who made an appearance each night. They became a welcome part of our experience at the cottage ( I find myself missing them a bit now that we are back home!) The area surrounding the cottage is very lush, with lots of singing birds and beautiful foliage. The location was ideal, being fairly central to the rest of the island. Whether it be Hanalei, Poipu, or Waimea, it was an easy drive. We had many morning smoothies at the Moloa'a Fruit stand just down the road, in our opinion some of the best on the island. We took advantage of the BBQ almost every night, finding fresh fish or local beef either in nearby Kapa'a at one of the grocery stores or in Kilauea at the fish market. The hot tub was perfect after a long day exploring the island. The washer and dryer just behind the cottage came in handy for washing the beach towels, etc. There were body boards, some snorkel gear, beach chairs, towels, and lots of extra sunscreen and toiletries left by previous guests. There are so many accommodations to choose from on the island, all with their own appeal. Hands down, this has to be one of the best. We know when we return to Kauai, we will be contacting Harvest to book this wonderful piece of paradise:)

A SWEET SPOT AT A GOOD PRICE

  • 5 of 5
My adult daughter and I spent 5 days here while enjoying Kauai thoroughly, easy to do from this location. We found the cottage to be clean and comfortable, functional throughout. The setting is lush and beautiful, and the fruit, coffee, chocolate, and granola we were given by Harvest on arrival were delicious and very welcome. We used the hot tub nightly and had no problem regulating the temp so that it didn't come on in the night, following Harvest's instructions. We cooked in the kitchen daily and really found that tiny sink easy to handle! Birdsong is wonderful at this house. Bed was very comfortable; the couch wasn't the most comfy ever, but we didn't spend much time on it because there were better things to do! Town of Kilauea was great, and we explored Waimea Canyon, Kalalau Lookout, NaPali coast, Hanalei, and the rockin' little town of Kapa'a. I'd recommend this cottage for two persons of any age, or a couple with a child - Harvest indicated she can put in a futon for separate sleeping - unless they are looking for a high-end luxury setting.

ALMOST PERFECT VACATION

  • 5 of 5
We just spent two weeks at Lemurian cottage and had a wonderful time. The cottage is charming, clean, well equipped and very conveniently located. It was wonderful to soak in the tub at night on the covered lanai. Harvest was a gracious hostess who gave us privacy but was available if we needed anything. She even brought us a little holiday treat. The kitchen is small, but adequate for not elaborate meals. The bed is super comfy, as is the couch. My only problem was with the ubiquitous ants, but i know that's an island wide issue. Maybe a relatively environmentally safe extermination is in order. We love Kauai, we love the North Shore and we want to come back to Lemuian Cottage.

GREAT STAY!

  • 5 of 5
What a great place to stay on our first trip to Kauai! This private cottage was easy to find and the location allowed us quick access the town of Kilauea and all of the best spots on the North and the Coconut coasts. The grounds are beautiful and the owners were very generous to share fresh produce from their orchard and gardens (best bananas and grapefruit I've ever had). The cottage was clean and fully equipped with everything we needed. Mahalo to Harvest and Jim for providing us with such a pleasant stay. We can't wait to plan our next trip to Kauai!

AS ADVERTISED....

  • 3 of 5
This cottage was as advertised... it was comfortable for 2 adults.
Pros:
The property was fairly quiet, having many fruit trees on the owners property to pick from.
The kitchen had everything we needed, just add food- lots of spices and refrigerated condiments, which was helpful since we cooked a lot.
The bed was very comfortable, with extra pillows, blankets and sheets.
The bathroom was clean with a great tub/shower, and extra stuff in the bathroom closet.
The washer/dryer was an added plus
All the beaches were fabulous- Moloa'a beach was our favorite. Eat lunch at the Moloa'a Sunrise Juice bar...fresh and delicious...affordable.
We hiked, swan, drank, ate and relaxed- we will return to Kauai!
Stand up Paddle Tour was awesome

Cons:
The owner asked for our flight schedule and I emailed her our time of arrival- it was early- she stated that the cottage would be open with the key on the table- The cottage was locked when we arrived and she had to scramble to get someone to unlock it for us.-
The property had more traffic then we thought it would...sharing a driveway with the owners and back neighbor.
The microwave was dirty inside
The couch was very uncomfortable and had a foul odor- probably needs a cleaning.
Although we did not use the hot tub and kept the temp low- it turned on at 2:00 a.m. and woke us up- it is on the same wall shared by the bed.
The fire alarm went off twice in the middle of the night- battery should be checked routinely.
There are plenty of windows- but when there is no breeze, a ceiling fan would have been helpful- The owner did bring a stand up fan on our 6th day- the filter was filthy.
We love to walk, it was very inconvenient, everything was just too far and even if we wanted too- the highway was busy and dangerous, we had to drive everywhere, when looking on the map online- we thought we could at least walk to the bakery or for a cup of coffee or shaved ice...

We loved our visit to Kauai, we had great weather and everyday was heavenly.

Owner's Response: Aloha Darlene & Scott,

Mahalo for staying with us at Lemurian Gardens Cottage. I appreciate your positive comments about the cottage and I have some explanations about some of the other.

My apologies that the cottage was locked when you arrived. Since it was vacant for 2 days before you arrived, I had locked it. I am used to guests arriving at the 3 pm check in time or later and inadvertently forgot to unlock the door. Luckily my daughter-in-law was on the property and could open the door without much delay.

My cleaner did apologize for forgetting to clean the microwave. The couch cushion covers are regularly washed and the cushions have been aired out. I have never noticed an odor before. Just for clarity – our neighbor does not drive by the cottage to get to her property.

I do make it a point to let guests know that the temperature on the hot tub does need to be regulated (it is also in our instruction book in the cottage) according to how each guest is going to either use it or not use it. I apologize to you if I didn’t explain it well enough. If you turn the temperature down the water in the hot tub will eventually reach the temperature that it is set on and the motor will come on. If a guest does not want to use the hot tub it will be unplugged.

I was not aware of the smoke alarm going off until after you had left or I would have put new batteries in the first time it went off.

So happy that you enjoyed our beautiful Island.

EXCELLENT BASE TO EXPLORE KAUAI FROM

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the Green Cottage for a week for our honeymoon after getting married on Oahu. We didn't plan on really spend much time at the cottage, as we wanted to explore the entire island for the week we were there, so picked the cottage because of its reasonably central location.
It was fantastic. Only a short drive down the coast to Kapa'a if you had to visit the shops or find a local place to have dinner, but far enough away that you felt removed from everything. It was a great location to pick, we were easily able to make it to the trail head for the Na'Pali coast walk before many other people, and on the other side of the island we were able to make it to the top of the Waimea Canyon before 9am, both while still getting up just after 6am!
It was a great spot to use to explore the Northern part of the island, which is really where most of the adventure on the island was. We used Jack Harter Helicopters for a tour very early in our stay (Harvest recommended them), and it was probably one of the best things that we did, fantastic company.
The local beaches were great, we spent a few days at Anini Beach, which was lovely, but also visited a few of the other less touristy ones also.
The cottage was a great place to stay, quiet and cool (even in the middle of summer), clean, perfect size for 2 ppl on holidays, the ability to cook (we only used the BBQ) was great, and the hot tub was lovely. The photos are accurate and Harvest was extremely helpful both prior to and on arrival, but to be clear, you never felt like she was hovering at all, and you could certainly stay at the cottage and not meet anyone.
We are only about 30 as well, so definitely don't think that this place only for the older generations.
Kauai was an amazing place, but it was made even better by having such a nice place to start/end each day. Its not 'flash' like a 5-star hotel, but if you want something simple, nice and clean, which offers the freedom to create a flexible holiday, then this is a perfect spot to pick.
We would definitely stay here again.
