Tremendous place for family and serious surfers

We spent 5 days at Casa Sueno in February, with two hardcore teenage surfers, and old kook and his nonsurfing wife, and everyone came away tremendously happy with the house, the place and the waves. First, the waves: although February is a transition time, we had chest to overhead waves ranging from fat ramps in front of the house to faster A frames at Asuchillo to a high performance left point reef break for the boys down the beach. All with no one out. The waves were great, but it was Casa Sueno that made the trip comfortable and luxurious for me and my wife. The house is amazing, it's like a starter mansion plunked down on a lava sand beach in the midst of the jungle. The huge terrace was the focus: sitting watching the surfing, lying in the hammocks, eating on the huge outdoor table. But the ventilation and ceiling fans mean the indoors were always comfortable as well even at midday; the AC in the bedrooms wasn't really necessary but was certainly welcome after all day surfing in the sun. Marisela the housekeeper is smart and gracious (she's studying engineering in Managua), and you couldn't leave a piece of clothing on a chair without it being immediately washed and ironed. The place is and remained immaculate thanks to her. We got groceries from Los Cardones' weekly shopping run (email ahead with your list - include rice, beans, onions, pepper, oil, etc) she cooked eggs with gallo pinto and arroz con pollo for our breakfasts and lunches, with enough leftover for a couple of basic dinners when we were just too tired to make the 50 yard walk to Los Cardones' great resto. The food at Cardones is also great -- really fresh fish, great local cuisine specials, and great conversation since you're dining family style with other surfers and travellers. Hillery and Jai the managers and Izik and Laurie the owners at Cardones are super nice and you are part of their community -- we launched baby turtles with them, played volleyball, got their excursion recommendations for Granada and volcanos (take a driver unless you're really adventurous), rented SUP's for a change, my wife visited the school, rode horses, did yoga, etc. The place just has a really great vibe and everyone wants to help you have the most fun possible. We always had a security guard nearby although there never appeared to be any need. It was our second time to Cardones and first to Casa Sueno and we'll definitely be back! Already recommending it to all our friends. LOVED IT!
