Property manager very friendly and helpful. Rental was a breeze with no surprises. Cabin pretty much as it appears, on the older side but clean and appeared well maintained. Again, no real surprises. Bedrooms don't offer much in the way of privacy from the rest of the cabin, if that matters to you. We just needed a place to lay our heads, so bedrooms were fine. Patio space is large and airy, very comfortable. Cabin really had most everything you might need except washer/dryer. Grill is huge. Picnic table outside overlooks the lake. Very pretty. Fair rental price. Hot water doesn't last long though (found out the hard way). Neighbors are extremely friendly and helpful without being intrusive on our vacation. Lake is beautiful, very clear water. Hale rolls up the sidewalks pretty early, so get what you need at a reasonable hour or you're out of luck, pretty typical for a small town though. We didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin, too much to enjoy outside, but we weren't disappointed. Oh, and parking for a boat trailer is okay if you are comfortable backing a trailer in somewhat tight spaces. And there are stairs to get to the house for those of you with physical limitations, or you can park in the drive, but the drive is on a pretty steep hill. As far as sightseeing, River Road has many overlooks of the AuSable River, and Lumberman's Monument is really interesting/beautiful.
Cottage had damage inside. Yellow jackets and flying ants. Charged additional fees for damages we did not do. Not as advertised. Will NEVER rent from owner again. Lake is beautiful and despite the cabin concerns, enjoyed our time within Hale/Long Lake community.
Located near the Lumbermans' Monument, and the AuSable and Rifle Rivers. The Lumbermans' Monument is great for a family-friendly outing, and has scenic overlooks of the AuSable River. The AuSable and Rifle Rivers are great for tubing, canoeing and kayaking.
