A LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE IS AWAITING YOU

Ono Island Orange Beach House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Nanseas is located on Ono Island, a private gated Island with 24/7 security in Orange Beach, Alabama. It is a true vacation paradise.

Our waterfront home is a comfortable high ranch-style structure. It has a covered carport for two vehicles and ample space for more. The carport opens directly to the ground-floor level, which is used primarily for owners' storage. The house features a convenient elevator to the second story just inside the double-wide carport doors-perfect for disabled persons or for simply hauling up groceries.

The living area is located on the second story, which affords a commanding view of Old River and a distant view of the Gulf of Mexico from every room. A deck nearly 90 feet long and 10 feet wide spans the entire front of the house. The middle section of the deck, accessed from sliding doors in the living room, is a roomy screened porch, with comfortable rattan-style furniture, including a two-seat swing. A patio door in the master bedroom leads to a second section of the deck, and sliders in the second and third bedrooms lead to the deck, as well.

A wooden walkway leads from the deck to a large, covered dock that sits some 40 feet off shore and a boat slip that can accommodate up to a 30' boat. The dock, from which countless fish have been caught over the years, is equipped with electricity, 2 water spigots and two bench-type seats. (Please note that there are about 20 steps in a gradual decline of the walkway from the deck to the dock.)

The sandy grounds have been left largely in their natural state, with scores of bushy water oaks serving as habitat for birds and other wildlife. Our yard is frequently visited by ospreys, and you'll likely enjoy the close-quarters company of many other critters, including pelicans, herons and various shorebirds. The back lot is dotted with small evergreen and a sparse row of pines line the water's edge-sparse thanks to Hurricane Ivan.

The entire living area features low-maintenance, durable and cool laminate flooring. The bathrooms and downstairs are tile. The living room, which features a brick fireplace and a cathedral ceiling, has ample comfortable seating, including a sleeper-sofa, a loveseat and a pair of Queen Anne-style recliners. The water-facing wall of the living room is nearly all glass-a 20-foot wide 7-foot tall frame for your water view. The dining room table can seat eight, and a 15-foot, L-shaped island that sets the kitchen apart from the living room has additional seating on four stools.

The second story features two full bathrooms-one in the master suite, and another conveniently located between the second and third bedrooms. A half bath is located on the ground floor.

The kitchen has a four-burner electric stove and oven, a microwave, a large refrigerator with an icemaker and a dishwasher. We have equipped the kitchen to accommodate big families, including a complete 12-piece set of dishes and flatware and ample cold-drink cups and cocktail glasses. We've also done our best to equip Nanseas with pots, pans, casserole dishes, strainers and all the utensils, gadgets and miscellaneous accessories often found lacking in rental houses. The kitchen and the rest of the house feature ample storage cabinets and closets, including walk-ins in the master suite and east bedroom.

The house features a very large laundry room with a built-in ironing board with iron, washer and dryer. The home features central air-conditioning, of course, although if you're like us you'll spend much of your time out on the screen porch, admiring the water, flora and fauna.

Ono Island is a very active outdoors community. Paved sidewalks are perfect for jogging, walking and bicycling. Renters at Nanseas also have no-cost access to tennis courts and a playground. The house has plenty of storage room on the ground floor for bicycles and beach gear.

As you may know or will see if you visit, Ono Island features a number of very extravagant homes. Nanseas is not the fanciest house on Ono, but we hope you will find - as we do - that it is the most comfortable.

Guestbook comments from the owner
"Two words come to mind after a wonderful week spent at Nanseas: serene and comfortable. The natural setting of the home is such that you are not aware of neighbors. The house is very comfortable--inviting and not at all fussy. We enjoyed the screened porch and the well-equipped kitchen. We caught fish from the dock, enjoyed long walks on Ono...We wouldn't change a thing. Thanks, Nancy, for Nanseas."--David K, New York

A love story: It began on March 21, 1948, the day my parents married. Their deep love, not only for each other, but for Pleasure Island and the Gulf of Mexico, started a dream. As the years went by children came along and the love for our beautiful coast was instilled in us. We enjoyed endless summers of swimming, boating, fishing and laughing, memories we will cherish forever. In 1976 Mom and Dad bought the lot where their beloved home now stands. More years and wonderful summers passed, my sister got married and was blessed with a beautiful little girl, and the cycle of love started over again. After 30 years of service to our country, Daddy retired in December 1981, and the dream my parents held on to over all those many years became a reality when their retirement home on Ono Island was completed in 1982. Daddy, Mom and my Sister have passed on to be with other family and friends, so my niece and I now own the family home. We are both named Nancy, so Nanseas was born with the same love that has always been a part of this home. We hope you enjoy the same endless summers or winters that our family has been blessed with.

RETURN TRIP!

  • 5 of 5
Our return trip to this wonderful piece of Paridise was just as good as the first trip. The pictures do not do it justice, as you cannot see just how clean everything is until you arrive. You cannot find anyone as helpful and friendly as Nancy. She pays so much attention to the little details that others ignore. This house has everything that you could need and much more. We have always enjoyed coming to this area, but the last two years of staying at this house have just made our trips better. Even when it rains and you can't make it to the beach, the house is so comfortable, that you just don't mind the rain. My family and I highly recommend staying at this house. I assure you, you will not be disappointed. Our only disappointment comes when we are driving out of the driveway when we "have" to leave. Can't wait until our next trip back!

TENNESSEE SNOWBIRDS

Even better than the listing showed! The location was top-notch - quiet, peaceful, beautiful. We walked into a beautifully maintained home, with a huge "welcome basket" awaiting us. Even thought of snacks for our kitties! Nancy was a delight to deal with, before and after our arrival. We would certainly recommend Nanseas to others. We loved seeing the pelicans, dolphins, osprey, great blue heron, great white heron, the Old River and the Gulf of Mexico. The screened porch was our favorite location, though the entire home was beautiful. We especially enjoyed The Original Oyster House on Rte 59 in Gulf Shores, and had a great lunch at Cosmo's on Canal Road but, mostly, we liked cooking "at home". We will certainly return to Nanseas.

PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
We have spent the last 16 years vacationing on the Gulf Coast. We have not enjoyed a stay as much as we did this vacation at Nanseas. The pictures do not do justice to the property. You cannot see just how clean the house is which we have found to be an issue at most places. Not here! You will not find a home that feels as much "at home" as this. Nancy is very helpful and made sure that our stay was perfect. Every minor detail down to providing treats for our dogs. (I don't even know if I would have thought of that). Ono is very peaceful and private and a wonderful place to go. The time spent on the deck was priceless. We have finally found our regular place to go back to year after year. Thank you Nancy for a wonderful vacation! Those shopping for a vacation home need to look no further, We highly recommend Nanseas! You won't be disappointed.

STOP LOOKING- THIS PROPERTY HAS IT ALL!!!

  • 5 of 5
I have rented many properties from VRBO- many fail to live up to the details advertised. Nanseas is the one rental home that all other properties should strive to be!

Our stay was peaceful, and private, and yet close to all the beach activities you would possibly want to do. How do put a price on sitting down at Nanseas boat house and watch the dolpins swim right up to the dock? Watch the sun come up on the screened- in porch is worth waking up for too!

The home was complete and very welcoming. Great rental for boaters! The owners have thought of everything to make your trip stress free.
I never write reviews nor write in the guest books in rentals homes. That should speak volumes about Nanseas!
Thank you Nancy! See you in the fall

FABULOUS OWNER AND HOME!

  • 5 of 5
The description and photos of Nanseas don't do it justice! We walked into a gorgeous, light and airy home that can only be described as "easy living"! The home was immaculate and fully stocked with everything we needed for our stay. Everything from the bed to the towels was comfort, comfort, comfort! We've stayed at many homes on Ono, but never one that had a screened in porch like this one. There was nothing like sitting in the wicker swing and watching the sunset over the island. The owner of this home is hands on and made our stay effortless. Thanks so much Nancy, we can't wait to return! 5 stars for you and Nanseas!

GREAT PLACE!

  • 5 of 5
This was everything we expected. We arrived and found the home very warm and welcoming. One of the most relaxing vacations we have had. Great getaway for a couple, or bring the family. The views are spectacular and the home is on the waterfront so you can fish off the pier, which my husband loved. This property is very close to the beach, shopping and restaurants, however, you may find it hard to leave! We can't wait to go back.
