Ono Island Orange Beach House Rental Photos and Description
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)
Nanseas is located on Ono Island, a private gated Island with 24/7 security in Orange Beach, Alabama. It is a true vacation paradise.
Our waterfront home is a comfortable high ranch-style structure. It has a covered carport for two vehicles and ample space for more. The carport opens directly to the ground-floor level, which is used primarily for owners' storage. The house features a convenient elevator to the second story just inside the double-wide carport doors-perfect for disabled persons or for simply hauling up groceries.
The living area is located on the second story, which affords a commanding view of Old River and a distant view of the Gulf of Mexico from every room. A deck nearly 90 feet long and 10 feet wide spans the entire front of the house. The middle section of the deck, accessed from sliding doors in the living room, is a roomy screened porch, with comfortable rattan-style furniture, including a two-seat swing. A patio door in the master bedroom leads to a second section of the deck, and sliders in the second and third bedrooms lead to the deck, as well.
A wooden walkway leads from the deck to a large, covered dock that sits some 40 feet off shore and a boat slip that can accommodate up to a 30' boat. The dock, from which countless fish have been caught over the years, is equipped with electricity, 2 water spigots and two bench-type seats. (Please note that there are about 20 steps in a gradual decline of the walkway from the deck to the dock.)
The sandy grounds have been left largely in their natural state, with scores of bushy water oaks serving as habitat for birds and other wildlife. Our yard is frequently visited by ospreys, and you'll likely enjoy the close-quarters company of many other critters, including pelicans, herons and various shorebirds. The back lot is dotted with small evergreen and a sparse row of pines line the water's edge-sparse thanks to Hurricane Ivan.
The entire living area features low-maintenance, durable and cool laminate flooring. The bathrooms and downstairs are tile. The living room, which features a brick fireplace and a cathedral ceiling, has ample comfortable seating, including a sleeper-sofa, a loveseat and a pair of Queen Anne-style recliners. The water-facing wall of the living room is nearly all glass-a 20-foot wide 7-foot tall frame for your water view. The dining room table can seat eight, and a 15-foot, L-shaped island that sets the kitchen apart from the living room has additional seating on four stools.
The second story features two full bathrooms-one in the master suite, and another conveniently located between the second and third bedrooms. A half bath is located on the ground floor.
The kitchen has a four-burner electric stove and oven, a microwave, a large refrigerator with an icemaker and a dishwasher. We have equipped the kitchen to accommodate big families, including a complete 12-piece set of dishes and flatware and ample cold-drink cups and cocktail glasses. We've also done our best to equip Nanseas with pots, pans, casserole dishes, strainers and all the utensils, gadgets and miscellaneous accessories often found lacking in rental houses. The kitchen and the rest of the house feature ample storage cabinets and closets, including walk-ins in the master suite and east bedroom.
The house features a very large laundry room with a built-in ironing board with iron, washer and dryer. The home features central air-conditioning, of course, although if you're like us you'll spend much of your time out on the screen porch, admiring the water, flora and fauna.
Ono Island is a very active outdoors community. Paved sidewalks are perfect for jogging, walking and bicycling. Renters at Nanseas also have no-cost access to tennis courts and a playground. The house has plenty of storage room on the ground floor for bicycles and beach gear.
As you may know or will see if you visit, Ono Island features a number of very extravagant homes. Nanseas is not the fanciest house on Ono, but we hope you will find - as we do - that it is the most comfortable.

About Nancy Rauch
A love story: It began on March 21, 1948, the day my parents married. Their deep love, not only for each other, but for Pleasure Island and the Gulf of Mexico, started a dream. As the years went by children came along and the love for our beautiful coast was instilled in us. We enjoyed endless summers of swimming, boating, fishing and laughing, memories we will cherish forever. In 1976 Mom and Dad bought the lot where their beloved home now stands. More years and wonderful summers passed, my sister got married and was blessed with a beautiful little girl, and the cycle of love started over again. After 30 years of service to our country, Daddy retired in December 1981, and the dream my parents held on to over all those many years became a reality when their retirement home on Ono Island was completed in 1982. Daddy, Mom and my Sister have passed on to be with other family and friends, so my niece and I now own the family home. We are both named Nancy, so Nanseas was born with the same love that has always been a part of this home. We hope you enjoy the same endless summers or winters that our family has been blessed with.

Guestbook comments from the owner
"Two words come to mind after a wonderful week spent at Nanseas: serene and comfortable. The natural setting of the home is such that you are not aware of neighbors. The house is very comfortable--inviting and not at all fussy. We enjoyed the screened porch and the well-equipped kitchen. We caught fish from the dock, enjoyed long walks on Ono...We wouldn't change a thing. Thanks, Nancy, for Nanseas."--David K, New York
