Our rental is newly refurbished to offer our guests a clean, peaceful, and very private retreat from the usual busyness and clutter of our lives. We have chosen simple, yet warm furnishings where comfort and relaxation are a constant invitation. Our property is in the heart of an area called the Santa Barbara Mesa. This Mesa (Spanish for table) is a flat area of miles of residences, businesses, and parks, situated along the cliffs which define the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The air is clear and clean ... and carries a refreshing scent of the ocean's breeze ... often we can hear the waves crashing on the shores, or the seals barking in the surf. The unit is situated in an eclectic neighborhood with a variety of housing and family styles, reflecting a wide range of professions and interests. The streets are fairly quiet and traffic is minimal: so it's a perfect place to stroll around, to relax on the deck for morning coffee, take a walk on the beach, enjoy the sunsets, sip some cool wine, or just sleep in!

A block from our house is the Mesa Shopping Center - a delightful and very local collection of shops, businesses, services, coffee shops, and eateries to fill all your needs! In addition to our neighborhood Mesa Beach, we are a short walk in either direction to many other beaches suitable for sunning, walking, or watersports. For the canine lovers, we have a dog park right around the corner that includes several acres of off-leash trails for you and your dog.

Downtown Santa Barbara, the Marina, and Stearns Wharf and the Santa Barbara Zoo are truly minutes away and easily accessed by bike, bus, or car.

Because Sana Barbara is located on the Central Coast of California, the weather is temperate most of the year. This is a fabulous place to escape from the extreme weather conditions of heat and cold. A light sweater or jacket is enough most of the year.

About The Owner

I Maxine) came to Santa Barbara over 40 years ago from Southern California to attend the University. My husband John was born and raised in this town and has had his own business for over 25 years. We continue to work in our professions as we fit in as much time as possible to enjoy our children and grandchildren. John is an artisan of custom cabinets and countertops, and I am enjoying my second career in nursing. We especially appreciate the diversity of the creative arts in our community ... galleries, theater, concerts, and more ... since we are also both artists.

Why The Owner chose Santa Barbara

We have always had a spare room or two in our home designated for renters. Over the years, we have rented to students, professional adults, and an occasional young family. Several years ago, we realized a vacation rental would offer more flexibility in the use of our property. It gives us the chance to offer a lovely place for vacationers, while maintaining the separate privacy of our own residence.

What makes this apartment unique

What we enjoy most about our property is its proximity to one of the most pristine beaches, off the path of more common tourists sites, that Santa Barbara has to offer. It's our place of choice for walking our dogs, watching the surf, collecting shells, and enjoying the sunsets. Our neighborhood is quaint, diverse, and very friendly.

Notes: The unit's Kitchenette includes a convection oven which, with the microwave and outside grill, can accommodate a variety of meal preparations. Not only are we up the street from a fantastic local beach where people can walk, sunbath, walk dogs, surf, snorkel, collect shells, or simply relax, but we are also within a few miles of diverse recreational activities like golf, tennis, theater, movies, fine dining, clubs, street skating, skatepark, fishing and boating, biking, the zoo ... and the list goes on and on! Also, for those who enjoy good wines, Santa Ynez Valley is just 30 miles away: some of the best California wineries and vineyards are available for your enjoyment.

All the comforts of home

Wife and I found this gem to be close to small markets, beautiful walking choices to the beach or natural trails, minutes away from downtown, the harbor, freeway or Santa Barbara City College. What surprised us both was how quiet this area is during the day or night. No car alarms going off at various hours or loud quests trying to find their way to their room. All we could hear where the fountains and small birds which is very relaxing after a long drive. Talking with the owners gave us great insight into this charming neighborhood and Santa Barbara Art Community. In fact, the only thing missing with this rental is a refrigerator full of food and drink which of coarse is your own personal touch to make this an enchanting vacation memory.

Perfect getaway

My husband and I planned on a few days away from our current situation, and this was the place. It helped us relax, yet there was plenty of relaxing things to do. Walk to the beach, stroll along the beach, went bike riding. We brought our own but John & Maxine did have some to loan. All the gorgeous plants, water fountain, and birds and frogs you could hear you felt like you were in paradise. (Didn't see any frogs if you are afraid of them). Just heard them which was actually soothing. Grilled burgers on the grill provided. All very nice. I rode to the reserve not far from them, which was nice. My husband went out on a fishing charter we had fish tacos! Over all it was very nice.

Convenient retreat

We spent 2 nights here when dropping our youngest off at Santa Barbara City College. The property was easy to find and in a great location easily accessible to the school and State Street as well as the beach. It was a nicely appointed, cozy retreat. Quite small, but perfect for a couple. The garden and yard surrounding are peaceful and tropical and it was a quick walk to the beach. Our only regret was that we were so busy getting our daughter settled, we had no time to enjoy the garden and patio at the property. The kitchenette is pretty tiny and the sink is on the patio in the outside kitchen area, but it would be fun to use the area if we had had time. We hope to come back for future visits!

We really enjoyed our stay in Santa Barbara and found this guest house exceeded our expectations. It's quite lovely and as advertised, very peaceful. The location is convenient to shopping and the beach. The owners were gracious, helpful, and respected our privacy. What more could you ask for?

We had Such a wonderful time staying here. Very comfortable/cozy and more roomy than expected. From the beautiful garden to the spacious deck and kitchenette everything thing you need has been well thought of. (Thanks for beautiful fruits and veggies from your garden:)) Devine!!)
The location is ideal for anyone but especially for our dogs as they loved walking down to Douglas Preserve and Hendry's Dog Beach. Mesa is one of our favorite areas in SB and is close to everything especially the Beach. You won't be dispappointed with this VRBO rental, unless like us, you don't stay LONG ENough. We look fowrard to our future visit here. Woof!
