Nestled in the Heart of the Northwoods of Wisconsin this Four season Chalet is located on the East shore of beautiful Lake Metonga. Just two miles from the City of Crandon and across the road from the new Wolf River Multi use Trail (Hiking, Biking, ATVing and Snowmobiling).
Crandon is a charming town offering Restaurants, Antique Shops, Gift and Clothing Shops, and Historical Museum. Summer in Crandon offers many events, including Kentucky Days, Art in the Square, and the World Famous Brush Run Off Road Racing. We are situated 15 miles away from the 18 hole Nicolet Country Club Golf course, and six and twenty miles from Mole Lake Casino and Potawatomi Casino at Carter.
Whether you are looking for an active vacation, or just want to kick back and relax, The Peterson Bay Chalet is the place to be. Included in your rental is the use of a Paddle Boat, Canoe, Sail Boat, Bikes,Kayaks, Windsurfers and Row Boat. A 14ft. fishing boat with a 9.9H.P. is available for rent. There is also dockage at the pier if you bring your own boat. The Wildlife viewing is abundant from our Hammock Deck at the Water. You can watch the Eagles soar overhead while looking for fish.
Our family of Loons will serenade you late into the night, and if you are lucky you might spy a Otter or a Muskrat swimming past the pier. A Campfire, a game of Horseshoes and S'mores is a great way to end the day.
Winter at the Chalet offers a multitude of activities. The Ice Fishing is great, or if Cross Country Skiing is your sport we have three miles of private groomed trails at our back door. Otter Springs, Eds Lake and Hemlock Lake Trails are all within ten miles. Forest County has some of the best snowmobiling in the Northwoods. These trails are also accessible out our back door. Snowshoeing has unlimited access from our property.
We had a great time staying here. Lots of room to hang out, a wood-burning stove to keep things cozy, and beautiful star-gazing out on Lake Metonga at night.
This was our first VRBO experience, and were a little hesitant to try renting out a house. Now, we were so spoiled that we are hesitant to try any place BUT this place! The house was immaculate. It was the perfect size for 2-4 people. You could probably sleep up to 6 (kids don't mind couch or sleeping bags) and be fine. We went in early October, so we didn't get to take full advantage of everything they offer. (We'll be back!) The two encounters we had with Glenn, he was incredibly nice and helpful. They gave us quite a bit of privacy, which was great.
- Go for a hike on the hiking trail! I'm by no means a hiker, but it was really nice and Rocco, our doberman, loved every minute of it!
- The cabin is all on the 2nd floor. We had no problem with it, other than getting Rocco used to open stairs, but something to keep in mind for those who have problems with stairs.
- The thermostat is next to the main bedroom door. It took us awhile to find it. :)
Things to do on rainy days. (We got stuck with a couple bad weather days)
- Tour Crandon. It's a nice little town. I recommend "The On Deck" for some amazing sushi. Who would've thought Crandon would have excellent sushi!?
- Tour the winery in Three Lakes. It's just about a 10-15 minute tour, with a free wine tasting. Also has some good cheese spreads. Three Lakes is about a 25 minute drive.
- We went to Potawatomi Casino for a night. We aren't the gambling type, but it was enjoyable. We didn't try the closer, but smaller casino.
All in all, it was a great vacation and we have every intention of going back!
Deb and I had a great relaxing time. The location and your chalet is absolutely beautiful. We did some fishing, biking, hiking and even was able to do 9 holes with deb at Nicholet Country Club. Thanks Gary and Chris. We hope to schedule again next year.
This is a really nice lake home; very comfortable and clean. The owners are extremely accommodating, flexible, and considerate - with great senses of humor to boot! We appreciated everything there was available to try to keep two loud and lively toddlers busy (and it was Labrador friendly!). The paths on the private acreage and the public bike trail across the street were great resources; it would be wonderful in the winter for X-Country skiing or snowshoeing; the lake & dock are just steps from the front door. The living room and kitchen/dining area were much bigger than I expected. We had a very nice time at this home!
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Peterson Bay Chalet! We took our first "northwoods" family vacation and stayed 8 nights here. Chris and Gary are so friendly and accommodating, they made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The chalet is so unique, well appoineted, and clean. Our boys loved the comfy beds in kids bedroom, the taxidermy animals, and catching fish, frogs and crayfish in the lake. We had so much fun using the paddleboat, kayaks, paddleboard and rowboat, and caught lots of fish on Lake Metonga. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets, and watching the loons, eagles, and herons all around the bay. We had a great vacation and hope to be back next summer!
