'L'Oratoire de St. Christol' is located in the southern Luberon mountain range, just outside the medieval hilltop village of Grambois. It is an old 'mas' and our second family home, beautifully restored and furnished in keeping with the character of Provence. It has 240m2 of living space on two floors, beamed ceilings, 5 bedrooms, 1 bath with toilet, 1 shower with toilet, and 1 en suite shower room.
The house is on 5 hectares of wooded land with a 5 x 11 meter swimming pool with diving board (upkeep of pool provided) and a magnificent view of the Luberon. It is peaceful and quiet, yet only a couple of minutes walking distance to the village. On the property you'll find many 'corners' to discover: a quiet and shaded fountain to sit by, a medieval water basin (sometimes dry in the summer) and numerous terraces and paths to stroll. There are medieval ruins in the woods but they are difficult to get to.
The kitchen leads to both the front terrace adjacent to the 'cuisine d'ete' (summer kitchen) and to the large back terrace with a magnificent view, providing outside dining in sun or shade. The large vaulted kitchen has a picture window facing the Luberon and is fully equipped with new appliances, including a dishwasher and 'American' fridge with icemaker. The house is furnished to give a light, summer feeling with a combination of quality modern design and antique 'Provencal'.
Grambois is located in what is known as the 'Golden Triangle' of the southern Luberon mountain range. The area has countless medieval villages, open-air markets to visit, and is only a half hour away from the beautiful southern town of Aix-en-Provence. The sea can be reached in an hour. There are many cultural festivals taking place in the area throughout the year and for those looking for city life, shopping, and great restaurants, Marseille and Aix have everything to offer.

Friends in the region, proximity to Aix, appeal of Grambois and the Parc Regional du Luberon, natural and unspoiled site.
It is our second family home. We are in one of the most beautiful areas in France, a countryside of vineyards, olive trees, sunflower fields, and lavender. There are excellent excursions to Luberon villages, Aix, Marseille, Avignon, Nimes. The coast is less than one hour drive away and the area is not crowded during the summer.
We had a wonderful time at the house in Grambois. It was the perfect place for our family reunion. Everything worked out; the rooms were spacious and comfortable; the kitchen and the inside & outside dining areas were conducive to sharing and spending time together; and we enjoyed the pool and the views. We liked the fact that Grambois was not a touristy town but central enough to explore the surrounding areas.
Thank you for making us feel at home and all your recommendations.
Our far-flung family of 8 adults, 4 young children and a baby found this property perfect for a get-together. The house is spacious and comfortable with lots of different places to enjoy each others company. Of course most contact was around the large dining table in the house but we enjoyed our evening meals at the large table on the outdoor terrace overlooking the mountains at sunset. A very important fact was that there were no mosquitos or at least they stayed away after using a thoughtfully provided spray. We spent most days exploring the nearby villages and markets and made one memorable trip to the Calanques taking a boat trip from Cassis - recommended. It was wonderful returning "home" for a swim and cooperatively cooked dinner.
The house is as picturesque as the photos with rustic furniture. The appliances however are all very modern and worked well.
Thank you Ellen & Walther for a wonderful stay in your charming provencale house , we enjoyed being in such a beautiful and natural enviroment ,the house lived up to the description and more, the wild wooded garden and shady tree lined path to your swimming pool was like walking through an adventure novel ! the terrace offered a cool retreat for lunch and a snooze ! evening meals were magical with the stars eluminating the night sky + no mosquitos !!!
Every day was a delight , going to the many local village markets to buy fresh produce and post card journeys of the beautiful countryside , the Luberon is a landscape of inspiration with a palette of colour so rich you feel like your in a Cezanne painting .
We will certainly love to come back & do it all over again !
We're so grateful to be able to sharing this beautiful home in Grambois. Our family of 7 adults and two little ones loved the house - and we had just a delightful time there. The house is spacious, and wonderfully comfortable, and the swimming pool was a refreshing entertainment in the hot afternoons. All the furnishings and appointments are simply perfect. We were delighted to find the kitchen so well equipped, as we really enjoy cooking as a family. We have many, many happy memories of our time in Grambois. The property is simply beautiful. The area is quiet and non-touristy, yet a short drive from many wonderful opportunities. We'd all love to return here!
Our party of ten had a great time in the Grambois "L'Oratoire de St. Christol. Everybody enjoyed the lovely "Mas", it really met all our expectations. The kids loved the swimming pool and what they called "la sala de ordenadores" (computer room), in fact sometimes we almost had to drag them out of the house to visit any of the beautiful towns and villages of the Luberon. As for the adults, the times we spent in the back terrace having a drink with the beautiful Luberon landscape before us after any of our visits was absolutely enjoyable as well as our late Spanish dinners in the large and well provided kitchen. There was plenty of room for everybody to do what they pleased, really lots of corners to discover. By the way nobody found the medieval ruins. We also enjoyed the area and have moved a lot around. However there is plenty more to see. I will not hesitate in recommeding "L'Oratoire de St. Christol to anybody who wants to visit the area.
