We found Belize while looking for a place to escape the Vancouver Island rainy cold winters.

My family and I spent two wonderful weeks at this property. Great place to watch wildlife on land and in the lagoon. Grocery store just down the road made prepping meals a breeze.
This was a great property! Everything in the description is accurate. Amazing location on the lagoon with great fishing off the dock and beautiful sunsets. The pool was wonderful as well.
The location is in walking distance to the Green Parrot and Maya Beach Bistro. Highly recommend both places.
Leo at the Green Parrot was great to work with. All in all an amazing value.
We had a few challenges the first few days Of our arrival, but Dan immediately took care of it. It was our home for two weeks. The property is conveniently located, lots of places to eat and the grocery store is available nearby should you decide to cook your own meals. The place is so private with awesome view. Most of the time we just relax by the deck or the verandah. Lots of different species of birds visited the property, saw a crocodile once and the manatees came by a few days while we were there.
The bed is very comfortable, we slept good right from the first day. Very relaxing and calming place! The kayak and bicycle is a great addition, just wish that the kayak is for two.
The Indian restaurant, Tiger, is not to be missed!
Thank you Dan and Danille for sharing your home with us! Bill is already talking about coming back next year.
Our first visit to Maya Beach was in 2010 and we haven't looked back!!! February 2015 will mark our 6th year staying at this awesome rental property.
The transformation of this property has been amazing. Each year the amenities get even better.
The additional of the pool was the crowning glory. It's like a one-stop resort. Very private, serene, and scenic.
We enjoy nature and are always in awe when we stay. Amazing sunsets, vegetation, and native wildlife all right there for you to see. Have spent many an hour relaxing in the hammocks awaiting the manatees and dolphins who reside in the lagoon.
The Maya Beach area has everything you need close by. Great restaurants (Bistro and Mangos), beach close by, countless excursions available, and food that is out of this world.
A trip to the town of Placencia is a must. Great sites and extremely friendly people.
The property owner, Dan, is always accommodating and pays attention to details.
VERY EXCITED to be returning to the Maya Sunset house !!!
We have used VRBO many times. Sometimes you don't quite get what you were expecting. However, this place was the real deal. Awesome views, crystal clear pool, cold A/C, clean comfy house and an amazing palapa on the lagoon. We had coffee on the balcony every morning and fished from the dock every night. Dolphins and manatees cruised by but we never saw the famous Croc. Dan was helpful and easy to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend a week.
There are many beaches, bars and restaurants within a 15 minute walk. Maya Bistro and Mango's were by far the best. We decided to rent a golf cart and it came in quite handy. We cruised the entire peninsula in slow motion and it was so relaxing. The roads felt very safe. We were able to enjoy some of the Placencia night life without always having to call a taxi.
The only problem we had was booking tours. The giude that was recommended (Alrin) was a complete joke. We'd book a fishing trip with him, he'd call at the lat minute to cancel and leave us hanging with no other options. We would run across the street to The Green Parrot and Leo would squeeze us on a trip or tour last minute. I'd recommend leaving Alrin out of the picture and just let Leo set things up for you. Alrin acually had the nerve to call me for the third day in a row, yell at me and cancel again. I know we had a few windy days that weren't good for reef fishing, but he could have taken us fishing on the lagoon or to the Monkey River. We ended up having his brother Efar take us on the Monkey River tour and I think that really pissed him off. But hey, I'm not going to force you to take my money... there are plenty of other awesome guides that work hard to please their clients.
Even though we never got to fish on the reef, the trip was a great success. The snorkeling out there was phenomenal. Go slow and enjoy!
I travelled to the Maya Beach area with 3 other adults and two children. The rental house is a few hours away from the airport in Belize City, but the drive is beautiful (citrus orchards, banana farms, mountains, rivers). The house is located on the lagoon side of the peninsula in a perfect spot. You can walk to the beach or any of the businesses in Maya Beach. If you prefer pedaling, a couple of bikes are available with the rental as well. The house offers a beatiful view of the lagoon, with amazing sunsets, a pool, kayak, and plenty of space to chill. We walked to Mango's (restaurant/bar) several nights, the bowling alley and several other nearby places during our stay. I recommend kayaking out to the mangroves in the lagoon. It was about a 30 minute paddle to get there, but well worth the effort. Fishing is good at the house as well. We used the provided rods and fished with shrimp off of the dock with some success. We rented a truck from the airport so we were able to drive to Placencia during our stay. Placencia is a city at the end of the peninsula that offers a variety of dining, shopping, and tourist type activities. In Placencia, we charterd a boat for a day trip to snorkel, fish and hang out on a private island. The people of the peninsula are amazing. From Maya Beach to Seine Bight to Placencia, we were always welcomed and felt safe throughout the trip. If you want to dine local, I suggest finding som cow foot soup or stewed gibnut...both quite delicious. Dan was very accomodating throughout the experience and had plenty of recommendations to make. Most of the locals we met knew him and that seemed to help out a lot as we made our way around town. If you are thinking about visiting Belize, this is the place to be. Amazing trip...can't wait to get back to enjoy some more time in paradise.
