These days you don't have to be an artist to enjoy the Sandbox-you just have to be lucky.
There are no concession stands here or noisey neighbors. Some come alone, others come with family and friends. Whatever they do here, whatever their reason for coming, the tracks they make should be their own!

Our Family very much enjoyed out stay at the Sandbox. It is a very clean and well kept house. We enjoyed the wrap around deck, fire pit and of course the dune. It is a bit steep but well worth the effort to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. We would recommend this property for anyone looking for a quite retreat or fun with kids.
This property is just beautiful and very well kept. The dunes were much larger than we imagined, but my young sons were able to climb to the top without an issue. There is also a small nearby beach that was a great alternative if we choose not to climb the dune. The location is perfect if you are looking for a quiet retreat, but is also closely located to downtown South Haven. The owner was wonderful and very helpful during our stay. We would highly recommend this property.
Our family truly enjoyed the Sandbox! Although the dune was intimidating at first, we all were up and down it several times. We did use the easier access to the beach a few times too! Our son enjoyed 'sand boarding' down the dune!-Who would of thought?! The location is perfect. Close to Public Beaches, shops, blueberry picking and much more! The sand was quite hot and the beach a bit rocky, so beach shoes are recommended. The sunsets are beautiful from on top of the dunes. A perfect location for many pictures. The house had everything we needed. We definitely would like to visit the Sandbox again!
We LOVED this vacation house. The owners were fantastic -- super easy to work with, quick to respond to email, and patient with my abundant questions. The house is cute, very clean, and in a wonderful location right at the base of a gigantic sand dune. Our kids (ages 7, 9 & 10) said this was their favorite vacation ever! They had a great time climbing on the dunes and playing on the beach. Be warned, though, the dune is tough to climb. SUPER FUN, but tough. That said, the view from the top is so worth the effort to get there!!! I took some amazing photos from the top of the dunes!
We are the kind of family who likes to get away from the crowds when we are on vacation and this was a wonderful place to achieve that goal. Although we could see some of the neighboring houses we never saw the neighbors. The beach was all but deserted. We LOVED it. And, for when we wanted to re-join society, we were only a short drive from town and all of the restaurants and activities that South Haven has to offer. We'd recommend Maria's and Clementine's for lunch and dinner. They were both yummy -- our kids loved the Root Beer menu at Maria's.
I would say that the listing is accurate. Two bedrooms, bath, kitchen, and living room. The only misunderstanding that we had was that I read the listing to say that the house has three beds (a queen, double, and bunk bed) but it's actually only two beds: A queen bed in the master bedroom and a double/bunk bed (double sized bed on the bottom and twin on top) in the second room. This was not what we were expecting but the listing could be read both ways. Plus, it didn't bother us at all -- two kids fit fine on the bottom bunk.
We will certainly be renting this house again in the future. No question about it. It was fantastic. You should try it, too. Don't forget to pack your camera and a comfy pair of shoes!
Beautiful setting. A word of caution, however. The dunes are quite difficult to climb. No easy access. We did use a sled to carry things to the beach but hard to pull with extra weight going straight uphill. Definitely need water shoes as the sand gets quite hot during the day. Once you make it, the view and beach are spectacular. We hiked on our hands and knees one night to sit at the top of the dune and watch the shooting stars. Gorgeous! That said, I think the only way we'd return is with an ATV (which is what all the 'locals' seem to use for beach access). The beach house is attractively done, especially the stone fireplace. Must have missed reading the listing carefully -- no bath towels and very few condiments, etc provided. Not a big deal but we did have to go and find a Walmart. Was quite easy to work with the owners...
I just wanted to let you know what a FANTASTIC time we had at your Sandbox! All 3 kids (ages 7-14) were begging to come back again and we hadn't even left yet! Usually I am ready to go home after a vacation, but not this time. What a cozy house in a very cozy and peaceful spot!
Your place is definitely a jewel! We had a ball on the dune, a little too tough for me to tame going up (everyone else made it), but down the side path to the north, I was able to make it fine - 2nd time was even easier. We did come up that way by the house from the beach side, then down it to the house... so got some great shots from up top and a pano video! WOW what a view! Sunsets are breathtaking!! We hit 2 different beaches too (of which we drove) which provided different views and awesome beaches w/ amazing rocks! Also took a ride on the Friends Good Will ship, which was icing on top of the very awesome cake!
Unfortunately, it was a bit too warm to use the fire pit, but we still sat around it as the kids had a blast sliding down the big dune until dark!
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful place with us!! We do hope to be back again, sooner than later!! Our 5 days could not have gone any better, rain didn't stop us!! What a great area, what a great place and you by far are a great host!! Thank you for putting up w/ all my questions and especially responding in a very speedy manner! Hope our paths cross again, and soon!!
