This home was originally built in the 1950's and developed over time to respond perfectly to the challenges and opportunities afforded by the Joshua Tree environment. There are 4 different outdoor living areas, all oriented differently. In summer, there is always a shady, glare-free spot to lounge. In winter, you can always find a place to feel the suns welcoming warmth. There is even a great place to enjoy the huge west view without fighting the west sun- anyone who has lived in the desert knows how special that is. There is even an observation platform high above the roof that offers a 360 degree view of the stars that would rival a planetarium.
Indoors, there are lots of different spaces so a person can be as social, or private as the mood strikes. There is even a large, screened in patio- perfect for a kids 'camp-out' or a drowsy afternoon nap.
The interiors are bright and airy. The well appointed kitchen is adjacent to a main outdoor entertaining area- cooks and their crowd can always mingle.
The property is very private, and ensures that your only neighbors are the large covey of quail that live around the house. Children love to watch how, like clockwork, the quail return every evening to roost in the large olive tree next to the house.

No matter what the weather, there is always a fun outdoor spot at this house. But the real unique feature is the proximity to the Park Boundary, and spectacular hiking and bouldering within a 15 minute walk- its like your own private National Park. And, if you feel like taking a walk on the wild side, Pappy and Harriets ( the 'Best Honkeytonk West of the Mississippi') is just 30 minutes away in Pioneertown.
Great location, and perfect accommodation for a weekend in the desert for myself, my wife, my dad and my brother. We especially loved the large picture frame window in front of the dining table, and the outdoor covered areas where we took naps and read. The landscaping was also a nice touch, with many interesting plants for us to gaze at. Would definitely come back.
We were well acquainted with the area and had a general idea of where we wanted to stay. Delighted to find that the house couldn't have been more perfectly suited for us. In the end, we only regretted that we hadn't stayed longer. Ideal size for our threesome. And everything - the interior spaces, the objets d'art, (including a "Gauguin" chair) multiple outside sitting areas for gazing on the weathered granite-framed desert vistas, - all so in harmony with our tastes. The sunrise over the eastern rocks painted our breakfast in the kitchen nook with a golden glow. And no shortage of conveniences, including household equipment, nearness to the west Park entrance (2.5 miles) and, for this amateur astronomer, a stargazing deck above the house, from which the comet of the season was still visible to the naked eye. Returning to this magical spot is already forming as a plan for our future.
We had a lovely family getaway at this home. The home was very spacious for a large family, and incredibly clean and well-thought out for guests. We were very impressed and must say that the photos on the website here don't do justice to how lovely of a place it really is! It was very easy to access the property and be close to Joshua Tree and any shopping you might need, while still being in a beautiful, remote location. Would absolutely recommend and would like to return!
Roadrunners, jack rabbits and hawks out the back door. Sunrise cast wonderful shadows on the rocks behind the house. Beautiful house on quiet acreage close to town and National Park. Cozy even in the snow! Kitchen had everything we needed to relax and entertain. Definitely the place to stay!
Really enjoyed the time @ the Yorba house. It was in pristine condition. This place has everything needed for a comfortable, relaxed stay. It was easy to arrive and settle in. We went to get away; reflect and write music. (easily achieved in this home) Highly recommended! I hope to return.
Charming house with extensive near-180 degree views of the valley north of Joshua Tree. Lovely landscaping surrounds house. Watch the stars at night while sitting in front of the chiminea. Well located near two entrances to Joshua Tree Park where there are extensive hiking and exploring opportunities. Town of Joshua Tree has interesting and funky shops. Great pizza place, too. Note that there is no dishwasher, nor wi-fi and the new flatscreen monitor will only play DVDs (many to choose from in the house) or stream video from a cell-connected device you must bring - i.e. no cable or dish service.
Property is a 15 Minute Walk from the Park Boundary, with Hiking Trails, Rock Formations and Views that Rival Those of the Managed Areas of the Park- Without the Crowds!
