As beachfront as you can get without getting wet! The stunning ocean view, the colorful sunsets, and the sound of the waves at night, will never let you forget that you're literally On The Beach. Plus, you can snorkel and SURF (without crowds) right in front of the complex.
Hale Mahina is a mellow, low-key, beautifully situated, low-rise 60-unit complex directly on a small and private sandy beach. Every unit and lanai directly face the beach as well as the pool, hot tub and colorful garden, from which you also face the ocean and the islands of Lanai and Molokai. (No leaning over, craning your head or stepping on your toes to get a peek of the omnipresent ocean.) Some people just mellow out and don't even want to leave the complex, but of course Maui also has a plethora of great activities to partake in.
All the 1 bedroom units are 800 square feet, or about the largest 1 BR's you'll find in Maui. The unit was updated recently, foregoing Hawaiian-cliche decor for a more sophisticated, understated elegance, and has everything you need to feel totally at home yet wonderfully away from all the problems of everyday life. Fully equipped kitchen and living room including large flat screen TV (installed after photos were taken). Ideal for a mellow time, but not a wild party crowd.

"I just wanted to thank you for letting us use your condo. It was beautiful and we had a great time."
I bought the property in 1999 with an eye towards eventual early retirement. Since this still hasn't materialized (we won't get into that), and since my work keeps me mostly 12 time zones away (Eastern Europe) I rent it out most of the time, or let friends use it. In the meantime, geographical/time constraints often limit me to other great coastal areas like the Costa Brava, the Turkish coast (in photo), Canary islands, French and Italian Rivieras, and Caribbean (Maui is, alas, 30 hours away).
I love warm weather, the ocean, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, surfing, and beautiful scenery...so how could I NOT pick Maui for a vacation and eventual retirement home?
Here you do as much or as little as you want, without the limits and confinement of staying in a hotel room at three times the price for a third of the room.
