Overview

Milolii House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-12)

Makai Hideaway quiet and peaceful. Unwind and relax from city life. House is an an hour south of Kona and one hour ten minutes south of the Kona airport. It is one hour ten minutes to volcano from the house. shope before you come as nearest grocery store is 35 minutes away.Three bedroom, three baths, and game room. There actually is a bed in the gameroom so we verge on being a 4 bedroom. A large Lanai runs the length of the house for dolphin and whale watching. Have dinner on a beautiful 600 foot Lanai and watch the incredible sunsets enjoy the warm climate with cool coastal breezes. One and half blocks to water access for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving and fishing. It's great to walk around the neighborhood. there is a king bed in the master and three queen beds in the house and one queen sleeper sofa plus a futon. Also, there is an ocean view from the kitchen and you can sit on the couch and see the ocean. Gameroom downstairs has ping pong, darts, air hockey, and small pool table. Sunsets are phenomenal and different every night. There is a barbecue on top deck. First floor master is the largest bedroom in the house and you can hear the waves great from there at night. There's a king bed in the master! There is a washer and dryer in the gameroom and extra small fridge by the tiki bar. the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away so many travelers stop at Costco as it is by the Kona airport on the way down. There is a supermarket at mile marker 77 and gas station, too.House is a good hour ten south of airport at mile marker 89. The views of the Pacific ocean are sensational and I never get tried of seeing as I descend from 1200 feet to sea level. Please conserve on water and electricity as Hawaii has the nations top rates. There's a nice ocean breeze often at the house but there isn't AC at the house nor do most homeowners in Hawaii have it. We saw a turtle the size of a volkswagon off one of the cliffs in the area and the snorkeling at the swimming hole is great! The swimming hole is a two minute walk away- go to Kai street and turn right. This is where you put in the kayaks or take them into town. There is internet and Netflix so the TV is great! My favorite thing is reading a book on the chaise lounge on the deck or going down to the swimming hole to swim and snorkel. Downstairs in the closet is everything you would ever need- coolers, beach mats, beach toys, snorkeling masks and equipment, life jackets, boogie boards, chairs, fishing tackle box, fishing poles are in garage have Daniel get them for you if you wish to use,

The Milolii area is famous for deep sea fishing, and you can watch the fishing boats or go out yourself. The beautiful secluded Honomolino Beach is close by-short walk along the coast from Milolii State Park-watch the spinner dolphins, snorkel with the fish in the coral, and maybe see a sea turtle or a rare Hawaiian monk seal.

From Kona airport go south on Highway 11 towards Kailua and continue on towards the 89 mile marker, turn right on Milolii Road. Go about three miles, turn right on to Ewalu Avenue drive down the road to Waenea Avenue turn left. Drive to third intersection which is Elima Avenue, turn right and go a half block to a tan house left hand side which is 88-1555.

From Hilo airport go on Highway 11 north for about two hours till you come to the sign that reads Milolii. Turn left by the sign drive three miles down the road to Ewalu Avenue, turn right drive down to the stop sign to Waenea Avenue turn left. Drive to the third intersection and turn right on Elima Avenue. Go a half block to a tan house left hand side of the road which is 88-1555. Daniel will have the house open for you and take you on a tour!

About Cheryl Fortman

Aloha. I am Cheryl Fortman the main owner of the property and we bought this house in 2012 after looking at 200 plus homes and condos. I am a first grade teacher in Fallbrook, California, San Diego county. That's been my job for 30 plus years and I still enjoy it! I love the quietness and remoteness of the house as I deal with the San Diego rat race all the time at home. My husband loves the lower bedroom fyi and my twelve year son loves the gameroom. We might retire one day to this house as I like it better than our house in California. It's much nicer than our house in California! I love hiking around the area and walking to the swimming hole which is two minutes away to snorkel. You take a right on kai and then three or 4 houses down on the left is a little bridge which you cross and you go down lava stairs and rope into the water or jump in. It's kind of Robinson Caruso style which kids love! At the top of the hill I often buy fish from this nice guy whose name starts with a 'D' he has sashimi grade ahi tuna, ono, and sometimes sailfish! I love to travel to the big island- its my home away from home and I am always willing to share house if its only me there and I will give a discounted rate because of that. I had lovely world travelers with me this summer that I really enjoyed and some really nice people from Texas that have rented the house 2 or three times now. I love to go to all the markets on the island- if you are interested in that please ask me about them and I would be happy to tell you about them. House is full of Art I have bought on the big island and from home goods store in San Diego. This vacation rental was a dream for two years that finally came true. The house is all I talk about when I am in California- that's how special this house is. Thank you for renting it! I really appreciate that!

Cheryl Fortman purchased this house in 2007

Why Cheryl Fortman chose Milolii

The neighbours are great and have a live and let live philosophy which I appreciate! I love the look of the black lava rock against the blue ocean. The reason I bought the house was the humongous deck, the sunsets, the panoramic Pacific ocean view as you come down the hill and the ocean view from the deck. The sunsets are phenomenal and I almost have a 190 degree ocean view from the house. The kings trail is close to the house and you can hike on it. I like driving 5 minutes into the little fishing village and hiking into honomolino. Kayaking in papa Bay are great! I still havent come at Christmas time and winter when the whales are there as house is always rented out then but I hope to in the future. I hear you can kayak around the whales but I haven't ever done it. Often there are pods of dolphins in the bay and I love the little mailbox library up on Umi street but you gotta put a book in to take one! I love reading books on the deck and drinking a Mai Tai there at sunset. Also, there is a washer and dryer downstairs a lot of people appreciate.

What makes this house unique

the deck, the sunsets, the king bed in the master, the walks, the oceanview, the nautical charm of the house, the fish wall in the family room and the family/living room, the gameroom which my son and kids from all over the world have enjoyed

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a lovely time at this location, the house itself was very spacious and clean and the deck was simply amazing. The location is well away from the crowds and we had no trouble getting around from this point. The location is a bit barren, not the lush tropical locations we've stayed in previously but it was a nice change. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place. The access road is a bit of challenge, a steep and twisty few miles that I am honestly glad not to have to drive any more but it was not bad enough to spoil the trip in any way. We went to the Place of Refuge for snorkeling, which is only a relatively short drive north and is excellent. On our last day we went to Hookena which is very close and it seemed to be really nice too though we didn't swim there. If we'd been there longer, I would have gone there again. We ate at Annies which is about 20 miles north which was great, and also at Teshimas, a mile further north of Annies, busy but good. While there is not a big market close by before getting to the house from the airport, there is a good sized market (and gas station) a bit further south at the 77 mile marker that we would recommend and that we wished we had known about in advance as it is very convenient. Everyone we dealt with was very kind and helpful.

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful and convenient

We stayed in the Aloha Beach house the first week of January, what a great start to the new year. It was nice to be off the beaten track but did end up doing a lot of driving (although the road in and out of the house isn't nearly as bad as other reviews make it sound, its nicely paved and you get to enjoy the view on the way down). The kitchen is well equipped and we used the bbq almost every night. The living room could be improved with better lighting (for reading in the evening) and more comfortable seating. Fruity Judy's up the road is a must; delicious avocados and papayas! We also went on a kayak/snorkel trip to Captain Cook memorial with Aloha Kayak Co. which was very fun. We enjoyed hiking to the near by Honomolino bch Also it was a short drive to the Black sand beach to snorkel with the sea turtles. The other beach we liked alot was 2 step near the City of Refuge to snorkel. We ate almost all our meals at the house, but we did try out Super J's and had yummy pork lau lau lunches. Overall it was a really great place to stay and everyone had a good time :) Mahalo!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review Sue - I appreciate that! Thanks for your comment about the road- it doesn't bother me either and I love the panoramic view of the ocean on the way down. It's actually one of my favorite views on the island! It's probably why major resorts wanted to come in years ago and build big resorts but the village kept them out and made this area affordable for me! Come again! There are two lamps- a floor one and a table one plus the overhead light in the living room but next time I am there I will check it out. I find the chaise lounge very comfortable and the couch too but I know every person is different. Like some people like soft pillows and some like hard pillows. Thanks for your input and great review!

Cute condo with great ocean view and stars

  • 5 of 5
We are from japan. We had a wedding at Oahu and after that we came this big island to have a memory with our family. Volcano and Kona were close to condo.
We loved the balcony so much. We did BBQ everyday.

Moreover, Price was very cheap!

I will recommend this place to my friends:) and already worried about this place becomes so popular that we cannot get available data next time..! we will come back for sure.

Thank you very much!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review! Please come back again! I will always find a time to rent to you! Thank you for spreading the word in Japan- I would love to corner the tourist market from Japan on the Big island! Again thank you for your very kind words and for treating my place with the utmost respect! The stars are great there, aren't they! One year I saw 17 shooting stars in a matter of 30 minutes in July! Happy New Year! Thank again for renting my place. Daniel loved your comments in the guest book!

Peace & quiet, beautiful ocean views

Peace & quiet, beautiful ocean views

I stayed at the Aloha Beach House with my partner for over a month in Fall of 2014. We found the house to be attractive, comfortable and well-equipped. The main part of the house consists of a large living-dining-kitchen space and two bedrooms, each with a bath. We spent nearly all of our time on the large North-facing deck adjacent to the living area. The view is expansive and the sunsets were spectacular.

For us it was a great location. We used it as a home base and spent several days at a time traveling to other parts of the Island. I did not realize in advance that there was no beach within walking distance of the house. It was about an hour from the house to go snorkeling or swimming. I guess there is a small public beach in Miloli‘i Village, but it did not seem very inviting. There is another beach that you can hike to, but I never did so, I can't comment on it. We used lots of beach gear (snorkels, fins, water shoes, boogie boards, etc.) which was in good condition and easy to access.

All the household equipment, including the grill, worked fine. Because the house is on a lava field and quite remote from any urban area, the water system is unusual. Water is collected from the roof and stored in a large tank for household use. There is bottled water for drinking & cooking. It was not a problem & Daniel made sure we had plenty of bottled water.

Cheryl was very responsive and easy to work with. Her local manager, Daniel, was great -- very helpful.

We would definitely go back and maybe stay for an even longer time!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review on both sites- I really appreciate that- this helps me rent it out. Please come back again you guys were a pleasure to have there! It really is much easier to rent the house out on a monthly basis especially August through November my lower season! I love to walk two minutes down to "dumb rock" as Daniel calls it to snorkel and swim but yes you do do need to drive 5 minutes into Milolii, park at the community center, then hike 15 minutes into Honomolino beeach which is some people's favorite beach on the whole island! Spread the word please about my place in Oregon. I will send you your deposit back tomorrow! I would love to rent it to you guys for longer!

Owner's Response: Thanks again for your great review! House is not for those who want bars, a restaurant 5 minutes away, or a sandy beach. Nearest beach is a 5 minute drive and 15 minute hike. There's great swimming, kayaking, snorkeling hole a two minute walk from the house. It is centrally located as you said for day trips as it takes 6 hours to get all the way around the island. Volcano is 63 miles away; it's 45 minutes to Green Sand beach, Southpoint, Punuluu Beach- the black sand beach and 35 minutes to Hooekena north of the house. If you don't mind a hard , rocky beach Pebble Beach is clo too maybe 25 minutes away at the bottom of Kona Paradise. Please come again and thanks again for being my longest renters!!!

Aloha Beach House Dec 2014

We stayed for 7 nights and found it a very peaceful and comfortable house to return to after our daily trips. It had everything we needed including snorkelling equipment and beach shoes. The property manager, Daniel, is very helpful and knows the area well so don't hesitate to ask for his help. We would certainly return. Thank you Cheryl and Daniel.
