Escape to the sunny Okanagan and enjoy the best of BC's wine country in a classic waterfront cottage. This lovely three bedroom home on Vaseux Lake has all the modern amenities with a mid-century modern touch. It is 1/4 acre of lakefront with private sandy beach, dock and floating raft - great for lounging, swimming or fishing. The spacious backyard has an outdoor fire pit, grassy area, and a large deck with barbeque. The main floor offers a fully stocked kitchen, seven appliances, wifi, TV with dvd/vcr, stereo/record player, the bathroom, a bedroom with king size bed and a loft with a large double bed. The cottage is situated in a breathtakingly beautiful setting on a quiet, non-mechanized lake. Famous for its bass and trout fishing, Vaseaux Lake offers an ideal getaway for couples or families. With McIntyre Bluff to the south and Vaseaux Lake cliffs behind, there's phenomenal outdoor activities including hiking and mountain biking on the KVR trail at the eastern side of the lake, birdwatching at the preserve at the north end of the lake, and bighorn sheep in the cliffs behind. The lake is warm in the summer and ideal for swimming. In the winter it freezes over and is great for ice skating. We are close to the over 100 wineries, including Township 7 in nearby Naramata, where the staff are happy to have you visit for a complimentary tour and tasting.

Beautiful setting and comfortable home

We stayed at this property in the early part of September where we enjoyed perfect weather. The home was clean and ready for us when we arrived. We found the beds very comfortable with good quality linens, ample towels for use inside and out and a well equipped kitchen with lots of space. The deck was wonderful for meals overlooking the lake and we spent our days on the property's private beach and on the dock. We would totally recommend this place to others, and have! We will definitely be back next year!

Not disappointed, but had to lower our expectations

The lake is spectacular and has a clean, gentle walk-in off the grass, completely suitable for toddlers and young kids. The property is overgrown and needs some landscaping. Watch you don't get whacked in the head when its dark. However, the plum tree was fully ripe in early August when we were there, and made for great picking. The chalet itself is cute. Watch - the loft stairs are not toddler friendly (too steep) but it, and the main floor bedroom, are air conditioned. The downstairs suite is not and the main living area is not, and it gets hot here in the summer. We enjoyed warm starry nights on the deck, watching shooting stars, drinking wine. It lived up to the reviews we read with two big exceptions: 1. Based on previous guest comments, we specifically asked the owner if the dock was repaired, and were told when we booked in the spring that it would be in time for our summer visit. It wasn't. The lake is too shallow to fish without a boat. A dock would have made that experience (on the 6th highest rated bass fishing lake in BC) a vacation to remember. 2. The chalet was dirty. We have a long history with VRBO rentals and never experienced anything like this. At $100 a night we could have wrapped our heads around spending the first day of vacation cleaning, but at $350 a night it was hugely disappointing. The description was accurate regarding the location. Photos accurately reflected the chalet's appearance and amenities. Would recommend to a friend but not at peak rates, with a caveat for needing a lower set of expectations regarding cleanliness. We went geo-caching in the area - highly recommended. Hester Creek Winery lets you bring your own picnic and and their wine shop is spectacular. And finally, the chalet is pet friendly and I have to say our Aussie Shepherd cross was in heaven. That was indeed a pleasure being able to vacation with her, and for that, we're grateful to the owner for allowing pets. Addendum: We emailed the owner post vacation and he apologized for the dock not being fixed, saying the roof needed priority attention. He also said he would look into the cleanliness and maintenance issues. A week later he messaged back and apologized again, saying he was on top of the cleanliness issues and assured that they have been dealt with for now and in the future. We will probably go back and take him up on his offer to make it up to us.

We had our wedding at the chalet this summer and had a wonderful time. We had about 18 guests for the.wedding and 8 stayed with us there the night before. It is a beautiful location and the chalet has a large balcony and yard, so we had lots of space for our wedding guests to socialize, play games etc. We were married on the dock in front of everyone. I am gushing now whoops. Anyways we had a great stay amd will definitely come back again to this great spot. Thanks again for a wonderful wedding and vacation

Thanks for having us Erin!

The cottage has everything you need to relax and enjoy yourself. We spent the weekend fishing (caught 2!!), bbq-ing and enjoying drinks on the private deck and beachfront. We absolutely loved it. Perfect for a couples or girls getaway. Our dog was so happy lounging on the grass all weekend too!

Tip: Go to Blasted Church winery if you have time (have to drive) - great spot :)

We had a great time at this cottage. It is really comfortably set up & overall clean.
The lake was warm & great for swimming. We brought our inflatable boat & rowed across the lake.
We tried fishing, lots of fish jumping but no luck on our rods. We didn't find the information binder until the day we were packing up to leave - too bad it would have been very nice to have read it the first day!
The water smelt of sulphur & we weren't sure if it was drinkable so we purchased water from the grocery store in OK Falls. We also weren't provided with much soap - all we had was a small amount of liquid hand soap in the bathroom - nothing in the shower. I could have brought soap from home had I known this ahead of time. Also we only had 3 tabs of soap for the dishwasher - luckily we only needed 3! Because this was advertised as fully fitted kitchen I did not purchase any extra dishawasher soap. There are cute Tiki lights on the deck but no oil for them - I did buy some of this & left it there for others to enjoy.
Due to fire hazzard we were not able to use the beach fire pit so we made Smore's on the BBQ using a fondue fork for the marshmallows - it worked great. The dock was not usable - not sure if it is need of repairs or just tied up off side to keep people from using it. I would have liked to try fishing off the dock as advertised but we made due with casting from the lower porch. Also the raft was very close in to shore - not sure why but we did wade out to it & tried casting from it to try our luck for fish.
I am not sure where the herb garden was - is it still there?
We spent all meal times on the upper deck, we had great weather. The AC in the cottage we great - let us sleep in comfort.
We really enjoyed the fact that no motorized boats or seadoos were allowed on this lake it made our stay very restful & kept rowdies to a minimum.
I recommend this cottage for a lovely restful family gathering - it really is a magical location. Wow the star gazing!

Owner's Response: Hi Laureen,

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! I'm sorry that the floating dock was not functional while you were there but we unfortunately had a storm a week or so before you arrived and that tore it from it's connections and carried it down the lake. We will have to rebuild it when we have a chance to come and stay for a few days.

In regards to the water, there is no concern about drinking it as it comes from a deep well up the hill and is tested rigorously by the Provincial Government. The sulfur smell is possibly due to the fact that all the properties on the lake each have there own septic field and when they are in use in high season it can cause a sulfur-like odour in the wastewater.

We will add a note to be more specific about provisions like soap etc. we don't provide wash soap or shampoo for the bathroom, but have extra dish soap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaning products stored in the laundry room in the basement suite.

Note: the Tiki torches must have been left by past guests as they were not provided by ourselves (fire hazard).

We are so glad that you were able to enjoy the beauty that is Vaseux and would love to have you back again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about our little bee hive Golden Mile Chalet!
