Our comfortable home is sited on 2 acres nestled in pines next to the National Forest on Edelweiss Mt. conveniently located in the Central Black Hills. To the South we are 15 min from Mt Rushmore, Keystone, Hill City (studio of painter Jon Crane), 10 min more to Crazy Horse Memorial & Custer. Just 5 min to Pactola Reservoir (beaches, boating, great fishing) from the cabin. To the North is historic Deadwood/Lead, Sturgis. You are high enough on the mt. for fantastic panoramic views/sunsets. We want you to feel at home whether sitting in the Great Room watching TV, roasting marshmallows in the massive stone fireplace or grilling on the wrap-around deck. Floor to ceiling windows allow you to enjoy the wildlife, too - deer, turkeys, lots of birds. There will be a bottle(s) of wine out for you to enjoy and begin your relaxing Black Hills vacation. LICENSED by the State of SD Department of Health (Lodging License).

Notes: There are two TVs w/DVD and VCR; one in the living room and one in the family room. Large family room is in the walk-out lower level and has an big sectional. Also a foosball area. House features wrap-around deck/porch on the main level. We're up high on the mountain so the sunsets /view is terrific. The upper level has 2 decks off the master bedroom; one for private sunbathing and the other has an even better view than the main floor. We're in the Central Black Hills; close to Mt Rushmore, Hill City, Crazy Horse (south)North to Lead, Deadwood, Spearfish.

Dining room, fully equipped kitchen:dishwasher, electric range/oven, appliances, dishes/utensils, microwave; Bedroom w/queen bed, Den w/futon (full-size bed) and full bath. Upper Level: master bedroom w/stone fireplace, king bed & 2 decks; another bedroom w/queen bed; full bath. Lower walk-out level: Large family room w/TV/VCR/DVD & Foosball table, bedroom w/2 double beds.

Activities: We have hosted family reunions/vacations, 'milestone' birthday celebrations, Thanksgiving & Christmas gatherings, wedding anniversaries and more. We are most pleased that many of our guests come back again and have offered to be used as a reference. Once again, our central location makes it so easy to visit the Northern & Southern Hills. Close to Mickelson Trail, snowmobiling routes and, of course, beautiful Pactola Lake is just 5 min down the 'back' of the mountain. Just bring a bathing suit - lake towels are provided. You'll also enjoy hiking around Edelweiss Mt.

Area : Edelweiss Mountain is a gated area assuring you of privacy and quiet.

Other Activities: Rent a motorcycle at Harley- Davidson, Rapid City.

We stayed here for a family vacation with three different families totalling 12 people. We had a geat time! The accommodations suited us well with lots of space to spread out. We loved the deck space especially for evening suppers!

The lodge was well stocked with all that we needed. The beds were all quite comfortable as well.

All in all, this was a great place to stay for our family get together! We had a great time and would recommend this lodging to others!

Great time in the Black Hills!

What a fabulous time we had at this vacation home! We really appreciate you opening your home to us and letting us enjoy all that the Black Hills has to offer. The house was great for our 4 adults & 5 kids. Plenty of room to spread out, relax and enjoy the scenery. The accomodations were very comfortable and there wasn't one thing that we were lacking. All the comforts of home.
Pactola Lake was a big hit with the kids. The water was clear & cold, but that didn't stop us! I hope to be able to come back some day and I will definitely tell all our friends to check out your house if they are planning a trip to SD.

Wonderful "all American" experience

Our stay at this incredible home was truly a family experience of a lifetime. The idea came from my inlaws & mother's desire to see the Black Hills area& Mt Rushmore. So for Christmas last yr brothers & I pooled together to give them this gift. House was awesome as it need to accomodate 4 different families with 4 different lifestyles, sleeping habits & special medical needs. Easy in & out - 3 steps. We saw turkeys from the decks every day & had the resident mule deer stop by each morning as well. Birding was cool with lots of varities. House was perfectly located between all the major attractions. Incredible to see the 4th of July fireworks from top of the mt 20 miles away. Fishing great, too, just 5 min away. Saw the Bighorn sheep each morning on my way to fish as well. No finer accommodations than this lovel home. Hopefully we'll come back again someday. Thank you for welcoming us into your home.

Awesome Black Hills Adventure

Home base for our Black Hills adventure in July of 2008, was this outstanding residence perched upon a glorious mountainside. The views were wonderful and the accomodations were everything promised- clean, comfortable, and well maintained. My family made the journey down the mountain on a new trek each day. The property is convenient to all the Black Hills attractions. We spent a lot of time in Hill City where we had good meals, rode on the train, and spent time shopping. The weather was beautiful with only one day of rain. We took in all the attractions, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, Bear Country, etc. The location just made all of this possible in a weeks time. We spent a morning trout fishing just north from mountain place, and then having fresh grilled trout for lunch. The afternoon was spent at a goldmine and we even panned for gold. The wildlife on the Needle was outstanding as it was also in Custer. The kids really liked the Alpine slide and mini golfing under the black lights back towards Rapid City. They told me not to forget to tell you to check out Cosmos, it was a neat experience for everyone- something really different.
Helen did a fantastic job of outfitting the residence with all the comforts of home. The best way I can put it is that we made an effort to get back to the home in the evening because it was so relaxing and comfortable. We played hard during the day, and the quiet restful evenings invited us back each night. Each night we spent family time grilling out on the deck overlooking the valleys, playing board games and listening to music. We even had a little foosball tournament. My teenage children were quite impressed with it all. They loved the stars at night and the occasional deer that passed through the property.
My father had just passed away a few weeks before our vacation, and this home made for a worry free place to get away from the distractions of home. We really could not have asked for anything more. The Black Hills is really underrated- it is just so, so beautiful. Helen's home in the mountains really was not just a nice place to stay, it was part of the vacation.

Our extended family had a fantastic time at this Edelweiss Mountain cabin. We enjoyed the seclusion and the great views from the cabin. The views from the two private decks of the master bedroom were especially nice. We enjoyed the fireplace in the master bedroom and watching lightning storms and sunrises from the balcony. The lowest level of the cabin was a great place for the kids to get away (with their own TV, foosball, games, etc.)
The cabin is very nicely located for
visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer Park, etc.

We will definitely come again if traveling in the area.
