|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
This Santa Fe style house sits atop a hillside overlooking the Manuel Antonio coastline to the West and the Talamunca Range w/ 5,000 ft San Gerenimo to the North. The jungle comes right up to the pool, and it's often possible to see two species of monkeys, iguanas, sloths, and many species of birds while lounging around the pool or from the many decks. Sixteen Scarlet Macaws were recently introduced to a sanctuary near our property and are often seen at the house, as well as large Toucans, also new to our area. Our rooftop terrace offers some of the best bird watching opportunities in the country. There are over 3,000 sq. ft of living space, with decks that surround most of the two stories as well as a covered roof top. The entire space can be opened up to give the feel of living in the outdoors with nearly an acre of mature gardens, with hundreds of tropical plants, orchids and fruit trees. The upstairs is an open living space that includes kitchen, dining, living room and TV area, and also a bathroom. Downstairs are three bedrooms: one with a king sized bed, two with queen sized beds (one also has a bed for kids, plus lots of other sleeping options around the house) all open on to the lower patio and pool. Our onsite caretakers provide 24/7security and help w/ all amenities. We now Wi Fi also cable TV.
General house info: We have had the same wonderful caretakers since we began renting in 2000 ready to help in any way.
Unlike so many other houses crowded together near noisy roads, and bars and restaurants, this property is secluded, yet 5 minutes drive to the happening town of Quepos or 5 minutes drive to the magnificent beaches of Manuel Antionio Nat. Park. You can walk to the main road, where there are more half a dozen restaurants are within a quick stroll. From the covered roof you have a 360 degree view where you can watch spectacular sunsets over the ocean . Breezes blow all day and at night switch directions and come off the mountains to keep this house comfortable all the time. The house is fully equipped with everything you need for your stay. Quepos has wonderful fresh produce, fish, meat and chicken as well as a growing selection of wines and liquors, so you can stay at home and cook or ask Anna our caretaker to cook 'tico style' meals for your group at a very reasonable price. We try to offer the best rates in the area, knowing you'll value your experience with us and recommend the house to others.
There is twice a week maid service and laundry, but you can request additional cleaning and laundry from Anna. Security is provided by our on site caretakers who live in a separate house at the entry to the property.

Check out our personal web site for more pictures, info, maps and links to the area and services. The owner will gladly help with any aspect of your vacation.

We lived in Manuel Antonio from 1989-2000 and built our house after we knew exactly what we wanted in tropical living. Steve started the first tour company on the W Coast offering rafting and sea kayaking. In it's design, gardens and art (mostly by the family) it reflects our love for Costa Rica.
Steve Osman purchased this house in 1997
Live like the locals would with all the personal touches of a private home. Our location is near everything you might need or want to visit, but very private. Looking out, it's mostly jungle views, not large hotels, restaurants and homes so you'll see more animals and birds than in most other places in our area.
We've had the same wonderful caretakers since we started renting in 2000 - see the reviews! They are there to ensure you have a great vacation.
"Words escape us to adequately describe our visit to Costa Rica and the paradise found at Casa Tropical. Our stay was overwhelmingly perfect. We cooked, swam, explored, watch the daily troop of monkeys, iguanas, birds and butterflies, listened to music, met on the roof for sunset and were quite spoiled by weeks end. We are most anxious to return and cannot imagine a more beautiful spot to come back to."

"We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. Your house is lovely. My son learned to swim in your pool, and he was diving by the end of the holiday. The kids have rated it the best holiday ever. We had a perfect mix of adventure and R&R. We went white water rafting with Iguana Tours. They were great. We went to Isia Damas. We saw monkeys, sloths, and boas. Thanks again. We'll be back at some point. We can see why you love it there so much. It's a wonderful spot."

"We just returned from Costa Rica and wanted to let you know how great we thought the house was. Your house is so beautifully maintained and the art and architecture so aligned with the setting."

Hello Steve & Family,
Words just can't express the awesome vacation we had! The house was beautiful and so cozy. We loved the art work around the house. I would love to have an abstract painting of yours.
Hannia and her son David were very helpful. David went out with the girls once. They hit the night life in Quepos. We enjoyed both Quepos and Manuel Antonio's restaurants. So much to tell and cherish the rest of our lives! Sally
We had a fabulous time in Costa Rica - Thanks in great part to your beautiful house and its magical setting!! We wish we had more time there, and are looking forward to returning sometime soon. We would like to thank Hannia for all her help and kind gestures. They really add to the experience in so many ways.
Thanks for everything!

We did have an excellent time. The
setting of the house was magnificent, and if there hadn't been so manygreat activities, we could have spent even more hours just sitting on
the veranda watching the wildlife. Claudio and Annia were super helpful. We will keep a reference to the property and may find ourselves back
there again! Mike and Family
Wonderful artist's house, secluded yet 5 minutes walk to bus stop on main road between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Very helpful caretakers who are available to cook fresh local seafood dinners. Very reasonable taxi service. Very clean and comfortable. Monkeys and iguanas in nearby trees; magnificent flowers and foliage everywhere. Many local restaurants ranging from fancy to cafes. Local Costa Rican people are genuinely friendly, engaging and helpful. Beautiful local beaches, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and zip lining recommended. Lots of fishing and jungle tours available. Short, scenic flight to San Jose. We would highly recommend this property as a great alternative to a traditional hotel or "luxury villa".
We loved our stay at Casa Tropical. We looked for a long time to find a place conducive for a family with small children and this place was perfect. From the roof top views to the visiting monkeys, we could not have asked for more on our vacation.
My wife, son, daughter, and I stayed at Casa Tropical for ten days in August 2014. Steve was easy to work with during the booking process. The location is perfect. There is easy access to the bus for beach days or going to town. Taxi service is also very convenient and inexpensive. The views are incredible. The house is beautiful, clean, and spacious. The kids loved the pool. The animals around the property were amazing. Andres is incredibly helpful with anything we needed and assisting with arranging sightseeing activities. Anna is an incredible cook. It felt like they were both part of the family. My wife and children did not want to leave to come home. I plan on returning here again in the future!
When you go to Casa Tropical you should consider:
1. Have Anna cook at least one meal for you.
2. Read Steve's book.
3. Have Andres hook you up with Henry for guided excursions.
4. Go down to Mary's Rentals at the beach. We got chairs, umbrellas, drinks, and food there almost everyday.
5. Go to Cafe Milagro for coffee. This was also a daily stop for us.
My 7 year old son says: "I liked it so much. I wish I was still there. My favorite part was the pool."
My 10 year old daughter says: "The pool rocked. I loved the roof top balcony."
My husband and I stayed at Casa Tropical for one week, and I can honestly say it was the best vacation we have EVER had. The house was beautiful and was situated high on a hill, receiving tropical breezes all day. To one side is a view of the Pacific and to the other is a beautiful mountain range. Andres and Anna, the caretakers on the property, made a huge difference in our experience. It is so nice to have locals giving you advice on things to see and do and Anna will even go shopping with you and cook if you'd like her to (which we did...AWESOME cook!). The grounds around the house are spectacular! Very well-maintained and lots of local flora and fauna. Titi monkeys came through several times and I even got to feed them right out of my hand! Awesome experience. The general area in CR is also tops. I've heard from friends who have stayed further north in CR and were very disappointed. Manual Antonio is beautiful. I highly recommend a visit to Rainmaker also. Beautiful and well-maintained trails through a rain forest with lots of views of waterfalls and beautiful walks across suspension bridges. I don't know how I lucked out to find this place, but I am 100% sure I'll be coming back. Thanks to Steve and his wife for creating this Eden and also Andres and Anna for their wonderful hospitality.
My family had a wonderful visit at this home. The pool was great for cooling off at night. The housekeeper and her son were very helpful and accommodating. She prepared a delicious meal for us. The monkeys came close to us. It was very spacious and secure. We highly recommend this house.
We truly appreciated the time we spent at Casa Tropical, and we were all really sad to leave. This beautiful home is like an art gallery - we loved the family's paintings throughout the house, which includes ones they did together. The gardens are stunning, and attracted so many butterflies and hummingbirds. We felt relaxed and very much at home-- the owners have created a very peaceful place. Our children had such a great time hanging out in the pool, reading in the hammocks, and checking out all the wildlife, that it took them 6 days to ask if there was a TV in the house! We were greeted by toucans when we arrived, met the iguanas and the tiny boa that live in the roof, spent an entire afternoon with 15 or more titis tearing around all the trees and jumping from the roof, were visited by an enormous green snake (more than 2 m long!), and spotted lots of different frogs, and many other birds. Gorgeous blue and green parrots were there to say good bye the morning we left.
Hannia, Claudio and Andres were wonderful. Hannia taught me how to make delicious Costa Rican food. We had a few fun evenings hanging out with Andres drinking Imperial, and getting the details on all the birds and reptiles visiting the house. Andres knows all the guides in town, so course he set us up with the best guides in the area, and tours that suited us perfectly.
My husband and I both read Steve's book and we loved it. He is such an entertaining writer! Reading this book early in our stay helped us enjoy and appreciate the area so much, as we recognized businesses, towns and rivers that were part of the family's adventures in CR. It was also very special and unique to learn about the family that built the home we had the privilege of occupying.
This was a perfect vacation and we can't wait to come back again!
