THIS LOVELY CABIN SITS ON A ONE ACRE LOT AND IS SURROUNDED BY TREES.
It is situated in BEAR CREEK LAKE just outside of Jim Thrope, PA.
BEAR CREEK is a private recreational development that offers a large, private, lake. The lake has two small beaches and lifeguards, during the summer months. No powerboats are allowed on the lake, only row, sail and 5 hp trolling boats are allowed. We have great fishing as long as you have a valid license. We, also, have a heated Olympic Size swimming pool; tennis courts and children’s play area. All this is available to owners and those who rent in this development.
The house has a deck across the front that wraps a short way around the side of the building. Inside you will find a Great room, which is a living room area and a dining area. There is a fully equipped kitchen, one full bath off the hallway and another bath off the master bedroom. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and sliding glass patio doors, so that you can look out onto the back of the property (you can lay in bed and watch the deer stroll through the woods).
There is another bedroom; we use as a sitting room as well, with daybed in it and a third bedroom with a double bed. All the bedrooms have closets and a chest of drawers or bureau for storage. There is also a rollaway cot in one of the bedrooms.
In the hall closest you will find and apartment size clothes washer and dryer for the renter to use.
In addition to all the things BEAR CREEK has to offer, there are many things nearby to keep you busy. Within a 45 minute, or less, drive you will find three major ski resorts, quaint gift shops, outlet shopping (no sales tax on clothing in Pa.), water park, bumper boats. White water rafting, mountain biking, paint ball can be found less then 2 miles from our cabin. In addition there are many great places to eat, with restaurants that run from very inexpensive to pricey, all are very good. Jim Thorpe Jail is listed as one of the 10 most haunted places in the US, and they have tours. Weekend train rides can be found at the train station in Jim Thorpe. We have a book in the cabin that has information on these and many other things to do.
We are located about 120 miles (drive time is 2 hours 15 minutes) from Newark, NY airport. From Allentown airport we are about 36 miles (55 Minutes) and from Phila. airport we are 103 miles (2 hours 40 minutes). You can easily mapquest from any of these airports.
We are about 5 minutes from Penns Peak.

My wife and I enjoy traveling, shopping, relaxing by the pool or lake. We are, now, retired and like all the activities we find in the Poconos. We like to read and I enjoy photography.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2000
Since my company moved us to Ohio in 1985 we rented a place in Bear Creek every year for vacation. We liked the location and all the activities Bear Creek had to offer, as well as all the things to do in the area. We could be as busy as we wanted without being bored because there was always something new to do. We began looking to buy in 1995 and found this home in 2000. We decided to purchase it and use it as a rental property except for a few weeks a year when we use it for our vacation.
We enjoy sitting on the deck and watching the deer, fox and other wildlife wander through the property. We like that it is about a 20 minute walk to the pool or the lake, so we do not have to drive unless we feel like it. We find that the location is centrally located to many of the activities the area offers, most are within 20 minutes of our cabin with the longest about 45 minutes away.
Great place for fall getaway near Jim Thorpe. Very well stocked and operational. Would definitely consider a return rental trip.
First let me say I am late with my review, but yes yes, this home is so lovely*
Everything about it was just as described. Clean, neat, well kept and amenities as we would have at home* It's very spacious and I love the comfort of the bedrooms, so cozy and the fireplace! Wow , the fireplace was just so perfect* I enjoyed this weekend with 2 good friends and we had a great time. The snow fell the day we arrived and that made it even better* I like the fact that is so quiet but yet not secluded. So we felt very safe* I hope to return in oct or feb* I really appreciate the hospitality and grateful to have chose this particular Cabin* Thanks so much to the Coy family* smile
Pros the house is located minutes from Jim Thorpe (by car) and in the Bear Creek Lake Development.
The house has a washer and dryer which is great so there isn't a huge laundry day when you get home.Nice information binder with fliers to area activities, very helpful.
Cons, The picture of the dining living area shows six chairs, four at the table and two at the sofa table-the two at the sofa table are no where to be found. There are folding chairs but that isn't the same. The ad says, sleeps six...we were five. The one room has a queen bed and another has a double (good for couples or very young children other wise it sleeps one). The other room had a day bed (no pull out riser) with a thin hard as a rock mattress. (this counts as a twin) and then there is a fold away bed with another hard mattress (another twin). The young men in our group chose the sofa and one curled up on the love seat as an alternative to the "twin beds" offered. I wish I had known would have brought air mattresses. (If you have them bring them).
There is a $60.00 cleaning charge-the cleaning lady should be fired. The place is dirty. There are cobwebs in all the corners. The dishes were dirty in the cabinets (food particles on some).
The steps into the house are falling apart. They are soft and flex when stepped on-someone is going to get hurt. I would say the span is too long and there isn't any support under them.
The lake is a walk across a busy street but you can walk it. I was disappointed to see that Bear Creek Lake is mostly private beach/lake front with two smaller community beach/fronts.
Also for the tec connected there isn't any wifi. You might catch some at the lake and in town at the vistor's center, but none at the house.
Over all the house served it's function for us (get the family together) and the price was in budget but I can see room for improvement.
I enjoyed my stay at this cabin for fourth of July weekend. I fell in love the second I walked in and found it very cozy yet spacious with the large windows letting in plenty of light. The couch is very comfortable and I actually fell asleep on it! It was great sitting out on the wrap around porch and taking in the natural surroundings and fresh air.
We took advantage of the community pool and basketball courts to keep up with our active lifestyle. There are also a few restaurants close by if you want to go out instead of cooking/bbqing. It was a nice experience and I'm looking forward to coming back in the Winter months.
We really enjoyed our stay in this cabin. It was nice and clean. The cabin was also in an area that was easy to get to surrounding tourist attractions. We did get rain so it was nice to have a house to come "home" to after riding or sight seeing. We didn't know it, but there is a Fall Festival going on in Jim Thorpe, PA during the first three weekends in October.
We had a great time! The place is easy to get to and not far from the town of Jim Thorpe. We actually were lucky to see deer in the back yard on day one and then again on day two we seen fawns. The house is equipped with all you will need for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed swimming in the lake every day and riding our bikes around the community streets. It was a pleasant stay at this house and the only issue we had was with the TV which we couldn't change from video to watch the local news. We like to do fires outside at night and we couldn't do that at this property which was a little dissapoitnting. Aside from that, all was fine and we had a nice time visiting Jim Thorpe and taking the train ride around the Lehigh Valley. We ran out of time or we would had done the bike route around it as well. We are thinking about renting again but trying it in the Fall .next time. Thank you for renting to us!
