Filthy Unit - A bad start to what was supposed to be a vacation week.
We just stayed in this unit starting at the end of July of 2011. Upon our 3pm check in with a 6 month old we found the unit looking like it was well lived in for a week with ZERO done to clean it. The garbage disposal also did not work. It smelled of old fish, there was a big yellow stain in the white sink, cereal on the floor (tile and carpets) and bathroom issues that I will have to let you imagine so I can keep this review clean and light colored carpets covered in stains.
So after 3 hours in a car, we had no place that we felt safe relaxing with an infant.
We called the Condo Realty Inc - who we had to go through to rent the unit, even though we made contact with the owner here through VRBO. (We had no contact info with us for the actual owner) They basically said it was not unusual to have a dirty unit at the 3pm check in and that a cleaner should be there by around 4. It was their busy season. Sure I know this, but if you KNOW it's your busy season, why not plan properly for it?
After we spent the next 3 hours of our vacation time cleaning this place, (I had to empty that vacuum 3 times) and TWO more phone calls to Condo Realty Inc, a cleaning women finally showed up and my wife let her clean the one remaining room that she had not gotten to as well as go over the rest, since we were not prepared with all of the proper cleaning supplies.
It took one more call on Monday or Tuesday to get a repair person to come out to fix the garbage disposal. Before this last call we never received a single call back.
On our various calls and visits (at check-out) to Condo Realty Inc they told us that they had to 5PM, 7PM and then finally 6PM to clean the unit even though check in was at 3pm. They said it is in the agreement, but I have a copy and it is NOT.
We wanted to be fairly compensated for our time and effort at the beginning of our vacation. We were not able to get this from Condo Realty Inc, so I emailed the owner twice so far and left one voicemail - but have heard nothing from the owner either. According to Kim at Condo Realty Inc - who I just got off the phone with she said she assumes the owner does not want to do anything for us either.
Ocean City itself can be a great time, but this experience was far from.
Owner's Response: Our unit is professionally cleaned and inspected after each use. Mr. Brian Q. was not understanding or flexible relating to the cleaning. Unfortunately, there was an emergency situation with the cleaning staff and they did not arrive until after the stated check-in time. The unit was cleaned. Mr. Brian Q. and his wife chose to clean instead of enjoying themselves in Ocean City. They were reimbursed for their efforts and inconvenience. We use the realty company so there is someone local to handle any incidents that arise (as they did in this case). We use our condo quite often and take pride in cleanliness and luxury accommodations.
Here is an exact quote from Mr. Brian Q’s email to us – “We really like your unit and it's location on the island. It was set up with most of what we needed which made our stay pretty easy.”
