High Fields Farm far exceeded my expectations. This is a beautiful place and our host, Alton, was so helpful with accommodating our needs. My son is in a wheelchair, so I was a little anxious about the layout of the house and the accessability. A homemade ramp was in place when we arrived.(just one of many special touches) We all felt "right at home". We loved the spacious kitchen and dining room. Everything was so clean and well kept, on the inside and outside. We didn't want to leave.
This is my second stay at Fairhill Farms. I first stayed in Carrie's Cottage last year with my family and fell in love with the cottage, the grounds, the horses, the cat, the porch, the pond, etc. I couldn't wait to go back. So I did! This year I took a couple of friends and we stayed in High Fields Farm. Wow! The views are spectacular! The house is huge and equally amazing. My friends couldn't stop thanking me for bringing them to this oasis. To say the furnishings are tasteful in both rentals is an understatement. Both rentals are equipped with everything you need, and some! If you love to cook, the kitchen is stocked with all the necessities; for instance, there were two coffee pots at High Fields - one for decaf and one for regular. How often do you see that?! The attention to detail at these rentals is mind-blowing. Did I say I loved my vacations at Fair Hill Farms? I'm already planning my third stay in the studio...to complete the trifecta! Oh, and hiking is just around the corner and spectacular too! And, as if all that isn't enough, if you are into beer, there are almost as many breweries in the area as there are wineries!
This house is perfectly outfitted for a fun, family vacation. It is not too far a drive from DC. It is surrounded by beautiful views of the mountains and has many comfortable spaces where you can enjoy the view. The kitchen is great for those of us who like to cook and the house is spacious for a large group. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There are sweet miniature horses that hand around the farm and eat from the pear tree in the back. You can also watch the cattle grazing in the fields and hike around the grounds which are spectacular. We spent plenty of time at the pool and in the evenings, watching the stars from the firepit in the back.
This was the second time we had the pleasure of staying at this amazing farmhouse. It has everything that you could want from a home away from home (really comfortable beds and linens, comfy chairs, well stocked kitchen, plenty of places for outside dining and relaxing, good sized swimming pool, outdoor grill, pool table....I could go on for a while!) Its only a 90 minute drive from DC but located in an extremely tranquil setting on the top of a hill; views are awesome! Loads to do around the area, its only a 15 minute drive to the State Park (great hikes and trails), 30 minutes from Charlottesville, close to lots of historical sites and plenty of golf courses (my kids loved this particular bit). The owner is a great source of information and couldn't be more helpful or delightful. I would (and do) recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a restful break in the Virginian countryside!
Just returned home. Great time, well kept home and a view that was breath-taking all around you. Strongly recommend. Was perfect for our family of 4 (our kids are 9 and 12).
My husband and I spent a week at High Field Farm and were treated to a beautiful six inches of snow which just enhanced the already incredible views. The property is incredibly well-maintained, very clean, and has everything you need to just relax and enjoy. We cooked most of our meals in the wonderful gourmet kitchen and enjoyed sitting in front of both fireplaces. We had a wonderful host who was readily available to us. This is a private home that would lend itself to a great vacation in any season. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.
