Why Laurie McConville chose Whistler

I choose to buy this home because it is so unique. It's so private & quiet. There's only 6 units in the building. The village is only 5-7 minute drive. You get the best of both worlds. Taluswood's is a very special place.

You cannot get more for your money!!!

  • 4 of 5

I searched relentlessly and couldn't find a better deal. Laurie is a responsive and caring owner. The condo is great for the price. It was my first time in whistler and if I ever return I will be reaching out to Laurie. Read before you rent. This place is small, I woud say 4 people would be very tight. If your skiing I would orle recommend blue/black skiers use the ski on/off, it's no beginner traverse.

Internet was fast, heated flooring was tremendous. The space is perfect for a couple of buddies going out to the mount isn't to see what whistler is all about. When I ski, I really don't care about partying and anything that could distract from the mountain, if your the same this is perfect, no noise of the village vut still great mountain access.

If your remoteu considering tormenting this property, don't hessitate - just go for it.

Only minus one star for access to mountain. For the fifth star, it would have to be more convenient.

Our second stay just as good as the first!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this condo so much we came for a second stay. We were not disappointed! The seclusion and pine trees were just as we remembered along with the beautiful fireplace and the comfort and coziness of the condo. Laurie, the owner, was just as gracious and kind as before - very good about responding promptly to our emails. I was shocked to read the other review of this condo - it's like they were describing a completely different place. We had no issues with the stove, shower, internet, or towels. The kitchen was very well stocked - we had everything we needed. The hot tub was just the right temperature and we had it to ourselves every time we used it. And the price is very good value at Whistler - this was the main reason we came back! We will definitely be back again - the condo now holds a special place in our hearts.

Cozy, comfortable, great value!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in this condo with my husband, a friend, and our dog this past weekend.

This condo was perfect for our needs. It was a great value - much cheaper than a studio hotel room in the village. It is full of nice touches to make it more homey and cozy - a huge fireplace, heated entryway and kitchen floors, and loads of hangers and hooks to hang wet clothing after skiing. Kitchen had everything we needed, and the internet worked perfectly. The patio was also very nice, we got to sit outside and watch the snow fall on our first night. Laurie was extremely responsive to all of my emails and even let us check out late when we requested it at the last minute. The ski in/out is a short walk, but we also found it is very easy to drive 5 minutes to the Creekside village and park all day in an underground lot for free! The washer and dryer were a bit temperamental, but nothing we didn't eventually figure out.

I think the previous reviewer has very misguided ideas about Whistler prices. The condo is accurately advertised and far exceeded our expectations for the price.

From the minute we arrived and came in dragging our luggage only to face the chained off entrance, forcing us to jump down a 3 foot wall to enter the building, we knew this unit was going to be a nightmare. After entering and finding the six Motel 6 quality towels ($75 "PENALTY" for using other towels-a note from our great hostess), and the broken shower handle and broken window handles, it was confirmed. The deception was thorough and complete, especially the "ski-in, ski-out" teaser. Its a ski out if you want to walk 1/4 mile up a mountain then ski down a black diamond equivalent boulder trail after that walk. Then, to come back you can ski down a black boulder strewn trail that is barely functioning as a hill, to "ski-in".

The wireless internet was 486 quality, never working without interruption. The 4 burners on the stove wouldn't boil water, none worked to cook a meal within 30 minutes. The master bedroom was so small, that one sleeping on the inside of the queen bed had to jump off the end, with its 12 inch rail, and injuries from this daily exercise included groin pain and stubbed toes. Smaller than a jail cell, it was a fight for 2 people to even stand up at the same time.

The open shower with half a glass door was impossibly to get the correct temperature, as the handle was broken and constantly stuck. Imagine 4 people trying to get ready in the morning with this issue, and the 5 towels. And the washer/dryer did not come with any detergent, we had to buy that, unlike what we were told.

Almost every picture was leaned against a wall, not hung up, therefore taking up most of the drawer top space. The owner's obsession with clocks that were set at 10:15 is proof of the insanity that went into these accommodations. The "fully stocked" kitchen had no salt or pepper, very few pans, and 5 drinking glasses. But we did have a complete collection of about 32 dessert dishes which had to serve as drinking cups. And make sure you are adept at washing dishes, because there was enough silverware to complete one meal before having to wash.

And while the Jacuzzi was adequate, but not so hot, it was strange that for a building with only 1 other inhabitant when we arrived, the hot tub was always full of people. Seems like it was a community tub.

If you stay in this unit, you will be very sorry you spent the exorbitant money for what you get.

Owner's Response: Unfair Review From Guest. I will firstly start off with the entrances to the unit, one of the entrances is chained off for our guest safety, as the stairs get very icy and isn't noticeable as you wouldn't expect it, as it in a covered area. This wall between the two pathways is a foot and half high, not 3 feet as guests commented. There is a 2nd clear pathway to the unit that runs along side of the 1st pathway, absolutey no inconvience what so ever to our guests. This is clearly stated in our "Check in Package" you will receive prior to travel. I would also like to add that the kitchen is in excellent working condition, including a large fridge with a good sized freezer, dish washer with dw soap, s/s 4 slice toaster, s/s coffee maker, blender, microwave, stove with oven. I find the cooktop for this stove actually gets hotter than electric burners. the unit is overstocked with s/s pots and pans, cutlery, dishes and kitchen gagets. Twenty-four more glasses have been. Shower handle has been repaired. The unit is fully stocked at all times with fresh white towels. Unfortunately Whistler didn't get much snow at the beginning of our seasons, so It sounds like it was a bit rough for my guests, if was up to me Whistler would be a Magical Winterland 365 days a year. I feel this was a very unfair review from these guest as most of what they said is untrue, I manage this home as if I was a guest. It's a labour of love. I must be doing something right as I'm already fully booked from May to November 1st, mostly from repeat customers. The only call I got from my guest was a call about the internet, which I followed up with cable co and they thought the unit had 2 bathrooms. It's clearly stated it has one. I had the shower handle repaired and added more glasses. From time to time things will get broken or will break, we cannot predict these events. As far as the other comments all I can say is "Pictures tell a thousand words". Thank You for taking your time to read my review.

Our favourite place to stay in Whistler

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this home. Cozy, quiet location, fantastic fireplace, great pool and hot tub. A great location up the mountain and away from the crowds. The decor is beautiful and the bed is one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. We live in Whistler now and frequently recommend this apartment to friends who are visiting the area with a car.

Seclusion and convenience all in one

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this very cozy condo. The decor was beautiful and the wood-burning fireplace was great. The beds were comfortable and the view of the pine trees out the living room was so nice. The hot tub was so relaxing at the end of the day - it was very clean and just the right temperature. The ski-in was great - the ski out had a bit of a walk, but not bad at all. We look forward to coming here again!
