Enjoy your own private beach, views of the Bay, and spectacular sunsets in this delightful 3 bedroom cottage on West Island which comfortably sleeps seven. Bask in the afternoon sunlight, spectacular sunsets, and views of the water from the West-facing dining room and living rooms. A large grassy front lawn which also overlooks the water is the perfect location for outdoor dining, and a sandy beach separated from the water provides a wealth of activities for adults and children alike, from horseshoes to building sandcastles. Grill fresh local seafood and corn on the cob as you take in the views of the Bay and the Elizabeth Islands.

The master bedroom is a new addition with cathedral ceilings, skylight, and ceiling fan. It also features a Queen sized bed and new dresser, nightstand, and armoire. The second bedroom was recently outfitted with a new bunk bed which sports a full mattress below and a twin mattress above. A daybed with trundle converts to two twin beds in the evening for additional sleeping accommodations. The main bathroom is also new, and features a large tub and shower with 10 foot ceilings. The kitchen is fully furnished with all new appliances, cookware, dishes, and utensils.

There is parking for 2 cars in the driveway as well as additional on-street parking. The beach is a perfect location to launch your ocean kayak for a pleasant trip around the island, or for small boats and windsurfing. Earl’s Marina and Hoppy’s Landing, right down the street on Causeway Road, are more suited for larger vessels.

The cottage also now has free wireless internet service and free nationwide phone calls!

About The Owner

Gloria and her family purchased this property when the two older children were ages 1 and 2. They lived here year-round for many years, and then summered on West Island after the two younger children were born. Over the years, the family has made renovations to the home, which now includes a larger master bedroom and a spacious new bathroom. While Gloria's children are grown and living near Providence and Boston, they still come back to West Island every summer with their own children to enjoy the ocean and the activities of their childhood. They also enjoy ocean kayaking and biking on West Island and they moor their boats at Earl's Marina on Causeway Road, which links West island to Mainland Fairhaven.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1970

Simply delightful stay!

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had an absolutely wonderful time. Gloria is incredibly accommodating and will make sure your stay on the island is perfect.

From the screened-in ocean view living room (wonderful breeze & view!) to the beautiful kitchen, the spacious bedrooms to the free-of-charge BBQ, and the quiet ocean-side location to the proximity to Fairhaven & New Bedford, this was a perfect choice for our honeymoon. The private beach was wonderful for sitting on and watching/listening to the ocean and for having an ocean-side campfire, though it is not ideal for swimming due to the thousands of shells making up the shore. That really didn't matter though as Gloria will provide you with a pass to the island's residents-only sandy (and very private) beach which is a 2 minute drive away. The location is excellent; it's close enough to do and see everything in the area, but far enough away that it's quiet and peaceful.

If you're looking to sit back and relax, this is the perfect place to do just that. We would absolutely love to go back some day.
