Wow! What a great find this apartment was! We spent 10 nights here as our base for exploring San Francisco and didn’t want for anything during our stay. The apartment is even better than it appears in the photos and was spotlessly clean throughout. We found the fold-out bed to be very comfortable and of equal quality to a normal bed. There were many guide books to peruse as well as a handy folder of menus from local restaurants. The views from every window and the roof deck are magic even when there was fog. We were a bit taken aback by the fog horns at first but it’s now a sound that instantly brings back fond memories of our stay in San Francisco. We quickly started to feel at home in the lovely Marina neighbourhood, finding many good restaurants within 10-15 minutes walking distance. We had a 7 day Muni passport and frequently used the 30 Stockton bus. This is a very handy bus route which enables easy access to Fisherman’s Wharf, Little Italy, Chinatown on Stockton Street and Union Square. To save our feet after a long day of walking, sometimes we even caught a bus back from dinner on Chestnut Street as there is a stop just half a block away from the apartment. The Marina area is relatively flat which is a plus when compared to the steep streets found in many other parts of San Francisco. Rayne was quick to respond at all times right from our initial booking inquiry and was most pleasant to deal with.
We had planned on staying in a hotel on our trip to San Francisco and had been online making the usual inquiries. These days this generates all sorts of spam relating to your destination, one of which was on vacation rentals. We hadn’t considered that option at all and started reviewing the offerings just out of curiosity. Our curiosity turned to excitement when we came to Rayne’s penthouse. We read the glowing reviews and immediately booked it for an open week in late May-early June. Well, we loved the place; it was very comfortable and convenient and it lived up to all the accolades in previous reviews. We won’t repeat those but mention an aspect that is important for us but so infrequently attained in vacation lodging in a city. In a hotel room especially, even one with something of a view, we usually feel removed, even cloistered, from the city we have come to visit and enjoy. As a consequence we tend to spend a minimum time there, and as a consequence of that, tend to have less relaxed and more driven vacations. The penthouse totally overcame this problem: you never leave the scene; it still surrounds you with great views in every direction. We never felt we had to rush out and stop wasting time sitting around a hotel room. We were there already. This made a huge difference in the pace of our activities and overall enjoyment of our week in San Francisco.
For anyone looking for a nice cozy place to stay in San Francisco, this penthouse in the Marina is the place to stay. Firstly the views are amazing. You have a straight shot of the Golden Gate Bridge out of the front window. It is also a half block from the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts. The kitchen comes fully stocked and it is very easy to prepare meals just as if you were at your own home. The location is unbeatable. The Chrissy Field/Presidio/Marina Green area is a great place for a jog or walk along the bay and Chestnut Street has great restaurants and bars for nightlife. The Golden Gate Bridge is so close than you can be in Marin in about 5 minutes if you want to check out Sausalito or Muir Woods.
To sum everything up, the penthouse was extremely clean when we arrived and very spacious. We were able to prepare great meals in the kitchen, but also dined out on Chestnut street a number of times and had plentiful options out there. The location is also great for anyone who exercises as you can get a great morning run in along Chrissy Field. The views are unmatchable and the location is great for anyone looking to make day trips into Marina County.
I would highly recommend this penthouse for all ages! The neighborhood has so much to offer and you are conveniently located for day trips.
After looking at many options in SF, we decided on this apartment for a 25th anniversary celebration in January due to the location and views. We were not disappointed in any way. We were impressed that this relatively small apartment had all the things we needed to relax while enjoying a week walking all over SF. The kitchen had everything to cook breakfasts and an occasional dinner, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the "living room" furniture was also a comfortable place to read or watch TV (the screen is small and is probably the only thing we could find any fault with). The posted photos give an accurate representation of the apartment.
We enjoyed the location for many reasons: close to the water, out of the touristy section of city, and still very close to great restaurants, coffee shops and shopping (Delarosa Italian Restaurant is a must and the Coffee Roastery is a great place for breakfast; both are on Chestnut Street).
The owner made the whole experience very smooth and arranged for an agent to be on the property to thoroughly explain everything when we got there. The owner also checked in a day or so after our arrival to ensure everything was ok.
We have stayed at many HomeAway/VRBO properties and this one is a stand-out.
The apartment was wonderful; nice and clean, too! We were there for fireworks on New Year's Eve and could see enough to enjoy. It was great to see the ones come up over the skyline. Also, parking was so simple. If we couldn't find parking right near the apartment, there were always spaces around the Palace of Fine Arts.
In addition, the location is great because the apartment is within walking distance to Chestnut Street, Union Street/Cow Hollow, the Presidio (especially the Officer's Club), and the Bay.
The apt is spectacular with views to the Golden Gate Bridge, the S.F. skyline and our constant companion and “night light” the Palace of Fine Arts, beautifully lit. The apartment is carefully planned in every detail, very clean, well appointed, full of light, cozy yet spacious and with everything one might need for any length of stay. The adjacent roof top deck is great; the ideal place to view the entire city outside.
When we arrived from our long trip from Italy we were apprehensive about the four flights of stairs mentioned in the description, since we are not exactly young, however, the stairs were after all never a problem and quite easy to climb indeed.
We were greeted by Carolina who kindly walked us through all the aspects of the apt and gave us advice about negotiating the city, neighborhood and insight into the local restaurants. In the apt. there were several tour guides and a helpful, specially prepared and neatly ordered, book with menus of the local restaurants.
The neighborhood of Marina neighborhood is fantastic! Residential and orderly, quiet, clean, yet very lively with plenty of shops and restaurants of any style and for every budget. In addition, it is well served with buses that reach every part of town in a short period of time.
We spent a wonderful vacation, also thanks to the kindness of the owner who was charming, quick and detailed in responding to all our questions and made our stay special.
