Pauwalu Cottage is the place to stay if you are looking for a convenient, yet romantic and secluded, private dwelling on Molokai's lush east side.
The listing description was accurate regarding the location. The driving time from the airport to Kuanakakai, and on to Pauwalu was exactly right and the directions easy to follow. The listing photos accurately reflected the cottage's appearance and amenities, but the cottage is even more lovely in person. The property was clean and well-maintained. The rattan furniture in the living room and the beds in both bedrooms are covered in tropical prints, which are attractive and in good condition. The walls feature Hawaiian posters, photos, and artwork that is both tasteful and of cultural and historic interest. The floor in the open-plan kitchen/living room is hardwood and in good condition, and the other floors are either bamboo or a faux wood, which is also pleasant visually and for the feet. Everything works! Hot water, plumbing, washer and dryer, even the garbage disposal. How nice not to have any hassles along those lines. There is plenty of closet and drawer space in both bedrooms. For a couple it's great to be able to spread out suitcases, clothes, laundry, etc. For a family, there would easily be room for two children. Plenty of windows and also good ceiling fans. The cottage always smelled and felt fresh, and we were never too hot. The deck has a great view of Maui and Lanai. Maybe just a little pruning of one tree would help that even more. The garden is simple and pretty, and the beach just the right size. And to have one's own ancient fish pond to play in every day, wow! Lovely for adults and, I'm sure for kids. Excellent privacy, too. In the two weeks, I think we saw a total of five people, and those very briefly. It's a great romantic spot!
We didn't take part in a lot of activities, but we enjoyed very much the Friday night music at Hotel Molokai. We would strongly recommend that experience for everyone!! We spent most of our time at beaches between the 16 mile post and the 22 mile post - beautiful, almost no people, and great for painting!
The owners were extremely helpful in answering all questions and concerns, before, during, and even after, our stay. That was, and is, greatly-appreciated, and in contrast to other private cottages where we have stayed. We are absolutely delighted with our vacation at Pauwalu, and would definitely recommend it to friends and relatives!!
