SECLUDED COUNTRY ESTATE WITH FANTASTIC GORGE VIEWS

Stevenson House Rental Photos and Description

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 18-22)

Welcome! Beautiful river and mountain top views on a large secluded country estate; this is the ideal venue for family reunions, retreats, business gatherings and vacations. Nestled on 20 private acres, it is only ten minutes from Skamania Lodge and the downtown main street area.

Spectacular views of the Cascade Mountain range, the Columbia River, Bridge of the Gods and an old family fruit orchard are revealed as you drive down the private gravel lane to your home in the trees. The house was built for a large family and offers 4800 sq. ft. of private and common family style areas. Exposed Douglas fir ceilings, three wood burning fireplaces, a large wrap around deck and expansive viewing windows are special features.

The main floor offers a fully equipped kitchen along with an open dining and family area. The large farmhouse table seats 10-12. Two other 8' folding tables are available for large gatherings. A separate living room has comfortable couches and a baby grand piano. The laundry and two bathrooms are on this level.

Upstairs are 5 bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms offer queen beds, two others have extra long twin beds. The fifth bedroom has a double bed. There is also a small reading den and conversation/ loft area that is a nice place for quiet time or that can be used as the '7th' bedroom. Downstairs, one queen bedroom has outside and drive-up access. The large recreational space in the basement can be used for large group functions that can spill into the spacious backyard in good weather. A ping-pong table is fun for inside play. Other sleeping accommodations include portable sleeping pads and mattresses for use on the floor. Two large, separate rooms with bathrooms close by work well for this arrangement.

World class windsurfing, water sports of every kind, mountain and waterfall hiking trails, wineries, scenic drives, museums, golfing, river cruises and a range of dining choices are just some of your many options for recreation and entertainment in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Come and see!

Hi! We're Paul and Ann DeBolt. Our short story: married 30 years, raised 4 children and are eagerly looking forward to retirement! :-).

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

We grew up in the Stevenson/ Wind River/ Carson/ Gorge area where everyone knew everyone's family name. While the area has come a long way from the sleepy little logging burg it once was, it still has the same small town atmosphere where you greet the sheriff, the banker and the grocer by first name. We like that.

Paul has sailed in far flung waters around the world through his work in the maritime industry but the Pacific Northwest has always been our home.

We've always loved the unique rugged beauty of the Columbia Gorge and the many opportunities for experiencing nature up close and personal. Paul loves to hit the trails with his boys for day hikes up Star, Table and Hamilton Mts. (to name a few) while 'back at the farm' I'm debating whether to cook up a rhubarb pie or just daydream with a good book. Summertime is for old-fashioned family picnics, local swimming holes, blackberry and huckleberry picking, scenic drives, wineries and just plain kicking back and watching some breathtaking sunsets.

The Gorge is really one of those few remaining vacation secrets out there. A special place. We feel fortunate to be able to share our big family vacation home and hope that you'll come back to visit often!

The house was just as described in the listing. Stayed here with the whole extended family with kids from 9 yrs to 18 months and a heaping handful of adults that needed their own spaces. Was able to please everybody and got lots of time together with the family during meals and evenings. Was so close to fun trips up and down the Gorge that we were able to keep everyone busy and entertained. Went over to Mt St Helens, up to Mt Hood, spent time in Stevenson and Hood River, and lots of other activities besides. Beautiful house and large, private property. Had a great stay! Would LOVE to go back again!

Owner's Response: Thank-you for the great review! We would love to see your group return. The Gorge offers so many ways to keep all ages entertained. This was the week of the annual Skamania County Fair - a great way to experience small town community fun. Our summers are typically dry and warm - so you can count on beautiful weather through September. If you enjoy breathtaking scenery the Gorge is hard to beat.

Big House with Everything you Need

Once or twice a year I travel to various locations with a big group of adults and kids. This year were were 11 adults and 8 kids. We wanted to find a location not far from Seattle with a lot of outdoor activities. As luck would have it, we found this fabulous house in Stevenson, Washington.

The house is fabulous. The owners are pleasant to work with. They have thought of everything in that house to make your stay comfortable. They supply linens, towels, soap in the bathrooms and kitchen for cleaning, TP, paper towels, some baking and cooking ingredients and even coffee filters.

There are a lot of rooms. And some of the extra beds outside the bedrooms are in areas with doors, so you can treat them as bedrooms if necessary, and the occupant has a private place to put their belongings. There are in essence, 7 or 8 rooms with beds and doors. Plus there is a large family room in the basement that also serves as a bunk room (without bunks).

The view from the back deck is amazing. You can see the Columbia River and the Bridge of the Gods. It is peaceful and private. We loved sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings.

The owners have lots of board games and sports equipment. There are two good sized tables for dining in the dining area and another table on the deck. We have never been able to get everyone seated for dinner all at once until now. There are also plenty of dishes, cups and silverware for a large group to have several courses. The kitchen is well stocked with 2 sinks, making clean up go much faster. There are lots of pans and pots and baking dishes and ice cream scoops, etc. We were able to cook all of our dinners at home due to the fabulous kitchen.

The furniture is comfortable. The decor is not stylish or fancy and you wouldn't want it to be. It is cozy and convenient and comfortable. There is plenty of room for a big group to play games in the family area by the kitchen after dinner. Local activities include watching kite boarders in Stevenson, white water rafting on the White Salmon, hiking at Beacon Rock and in Gifford Pinchot Forest, touring North Bonneville Dam, biking, running near the house, playing outside the Interpretive Center, enjoying ice cream and excellent chocolate malts at Granny's Gedunk in Stevenson, swimming at Home Valley and some of our group played golf.
Also not too far away are Maryhill Museum which is interesting and Hood River, Oregon.

Beautiful views, warm, spacious and comfortable home. We played and played in the large open spaces then ate great food in the well equipped kitchen. Plenty of room for gathering inside and out. Grandparents, teenagers and babies were happy. Great central location for hiking, exploring caves and white water rafting. Sweet owners left beautiful flowers to greet us. We hope to come back!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you loved the house and property! It's a great central location for all kinds of Gifford Pinchot National Forest related activities. And there are so many different kinds of outdoor recreation options! Sounds like you had a fun time. We hope you'll visit again.

We were with a large group riding our bikes around Mt St Helens and Mt Adams.

The house was a fantastic base camp with room enough for everyone and a fantastic deck to enjoy the sunset after a hard day on the bike.

Great Place for Family Get-Together

We really enjoyed our stay in this home. We were a family with 11 adults & 15 children (9 under the age of 5), and yes we really felt like we had a vacation. :) The house is set up so nicely that we did not feel like we were bumping into each other and there was room for all of us to sleep very comfortably. The weather was beautiful the whole time we were there so the views were just lovely and we made good use of the deck. The children really enjoyed the outside, plenty of space to run around and explore and yet they were where we could watch them. It is definitely secluded, a feature we really enjoyed. No houses right next to you like there often are in other vacation rentals. The kitchen was very well equipped and nice to work in. I'm speaking for the men, cause they did all our cooking and cleaning up. They really liked the feature of 2 sinks. Another thing we noticed was how clean the house was when we got there. The Bonneville Dam and Fish Hatchery is close by, so the men and children enjoyed touring that one day. Thank you Ann for being so workable, answering all my questions, and just doing all you could to make sure we had everything we needed! I would highly recommend this place.
Owner's Response: Velma, thanks for your great review. We always encourage families and children to visit as the house is well suited for family reunions. It's nice to hear that the Men took charge of the kitchen and found it workable:-)! I'm glad you got to experience such beautiful weather for your vacation. Happy Summer! Ann
