This is a delightfully private country Cape on one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the Berkshires. You’d never imagine you’re 3 minutes from the town of Monterey, with its old-fashioned General Store, and just 10 minutes to the local dining and shopping hub of Great Barrington.
With a 3-season screened porch, outdoor shower, wood stove, and close access to great hiking and swimming in your choice of pristine lakes - you will not want to miss out! For winter sports fans, there are cross-country ski trails galore, and three downhill slopes - Ski Butternut, Otis Ridge, and Catamount - all within easy reach.
This sweet home has 3 bedrooms: a ground floor master with king-sized bed and its own fireplace, and two guest bedrooms upstairs: one with a queen bed and the other with full bed. Upstairs also has a newly-renovated full bathroom.
The kitchen is fully equipped to make beautiful meals, and the adjacent dining room has places for 6. A spacious sun room with a wood stove is the perfect spot for your morning coffee.
The setting is quiet, country, woodlands. Take a walk on this lovely road or venture out to hiking trails right across the way. Family-friendly swimming on the beach at Lake Garfield and boating ponds are within three miles. Easy drive to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, theatres, the cinema, and fabulous restaurants. Dog friendly.

My renters really enjoy the outdoor shower, the serene setting, the fireplace in the master and the firepit!
My husband and I stayed at the Crane House for two weeks in late August. We loved being so close to all that we love about the Berkshires, Tanglewood, Stockbridge, Lenox, Great Barrington and Williamstown and the Theatre Festival is only about a 40 minute drive. The house is set in the woods on a mountain and is a peaceful getaway. The home is comfortable with a fireplace, outdoor fire pit and hot water outdoor shower that was a favorite. Garfield Lake is just a short two mile drive and beyond that is the charming Monterey Country Store. Claudia was very accommodating and the home was clean and very comfortable. Probably one of the only places in Monterey with dependable wifi and cell service. We would stay there again.
I stayed here for a week in August and thoroughly enjoyed it. Upon arrival you will find a very welcoming home. It is an eclectic, artistic, labor of love and it shows around every corner. The owner, Claudia, was very easy to communicate with...always available, never intrusive. The house is off a main route on a gravel road and borders a forest. It is relaxing and quiet. I was very comfortable here even without company. My guests loved the screened in porch and one night we were treated to a wonderful rainstorm! The house is well maintained and has good amenities; a fully stocked kitchen, grill, fire pit, outdoor shower, good cell service (sometimes spotty in other parts of the Berkshires) and an extensive CD collection. Besides numerous hiking trails, historic homes and other attractions, it is close to Great Barrington shopping and restaurants, and Kripalu and Tanglewood in Lenox. Even the drive to the Williamstown theatre and Clark museum only took about 75 minutes. Thank you Claudia and David for sharing your unique home, I hope to be back soon to see how it has evolved!
This charming cottage in the midst of the forest is a delightful find! My husband and I stayed here for about 10 days in August. Our adult kids came out to join us for a couple of nights. We all had a wonderful time, including picnics at Tanglewood and Jacob’s Pillow, wandering around Great Barrington, and a day trip to Mount Greylock and the Clark Institute in Williamstown. But best of all was reading in the hammock on the screen porch with a cup of coffee, or listening to music while chopping vegetables for dinner in the big open kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking, and the hosts have arranged the house very intuitively so that everything is right where you need it. Their recommendations for places to eat, local hikes, and other entertainments helped us get situated right away, and they were very gracious and responsive to any inquiries. We really enjoyed the mix of quiet solitude and cultural activity—not to mention the beauty of the natural setting – and hope to go back when the opportunity arises.
We truly enjoyed our stay here during Labor Day Weekend. This quaint, charming country home is a rare find. It is located deep in the woods, with very little traffic and no noise from neighbors whose homes are far from view. The kitchen and great room are perfect for lazy mornings with coffee. There is a welcoming back porch and well-maintained yard with a small fire pit allowing you to unwind as the sun sets. You can see the stars so vividly at night! There is an impressive music collection (CDs) that allows you to set the right mood no matter what time of day. This property is definitely a gem, but it is a country home in the woods geared for the adventurous, naturalist who wants to get away from the demands of life in the city and is not seeking hotel-like features. That being said, the wireless internet works flawlessly! The owner is straight-forward and easy to work with. We would definitely return here in the late summer or fall if our schedules allow. Take a break and enjoy life in the country!
My husband and nine year old son and I stayed in this lovely home for a week. We didn't want to leave! It was cozy and beautiful, with a fully-stocked kitchen and the best music collection of any vacation home ever. The location was perfect -- close to Great Barrington (and SoCo Creamery and Xichotencatl!), Rawson Brook Farm (baby goats!) and a small lake in Monterey, as well as a short drive to Stockbridge and to Pittsfield (MassMOCA). It was a beautiful week, and we hope to be back sometime!
