Deadmans Cay Airport is final destination for LI to Whistling Duck Cottage.
The best part of being the contact person for the cottages is that I love the interactions with people of every inquiry I receive. Each story is unique and the reasons for coming to LI - anniversaries, birthdays, getting married, or just plain kicking back to relax, are all to be celebrated and I love being a part of it. Many guests we have met and they have become friends to both Barry and I. We always look forward to meeting up again and rejoice when our paths do cross at the same time.
From the first moment visiting Long Island and the Lochabar area, Barry and I felt we had found home. The amazing beauty and safety of the harbor, the local people & neighbors who have become close friends and the sea life plus the surrounding vegetation make this the ultimate place to relax or enjoy numerous water sports & activities.
The 3 cays in front are accessible by kayak to beach comb for shells, bring a picnic or enjoy solitary pursuits. It also makes the water calm with the amazing colors of turquoise and many shades of blue.
Sea life with turtles & rays plus the birds, butterflies and flowers surround you with their presence to enjoy.
The cottage location makes it easy to dine out. There are 2 local restaurants close by that serve Bahamian style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there are several stores within driving distance if you wish to eat in to enjoy the view.
We had the most wonderful time. Your place was perfect for us. We did not want to leave. Especially to come back to this hated weather. Nancy is a wonderful person. You are really lucky to have her. We had a car for the whole time. We went from one end of the island to the other. You guys have the perfect location. Thank you so much. Tom and Barbara
My wife and I just returned home after two weeks on Long Island, the first week at Whistling Duck. We even saw a Whistling duck! The cottage is set on a beautiful lot on the water, oriented with a view across the water of the Clarence Town marina. The water is maybe 25 yards from the cottage. We saw rays on several days. When we were there, there was no sandy beach where the path stops at the water, just steps down into very shallow, calm water (inches). The beach started 25-50 yards to the south and went on for a mile or more to the end of the bay.
The cottage is just right for two people, right sized and well equipped. We were very impressed with the first class construction and high state of maintenance. Some of the specific things we enjoyed: big refrigerator that could make lots of ice, small Weber gas grill that works well, firm king size bed, fast/reliable wifi, outdoor shower with hot/cold water, glide chairs on front porch for watching the passage of time on the water, ceiling fans, nice decorating, attractive landscaping. It’s just a comfortable place to be, and a good base for exploring the island.
It's difficult to describe how beautiful the cottage and harbor it sits on is. I found myself reluctant to explore the island with such an amazing beach and blue hole just steps from the cottage. Cheryl, Barry, and Nancy were all so helpful and have created something truly special. I know this will not be my only trip to Long Island and the Whistling Duck. Thank you guys for such a great stay!
This was our second stay in Whistling Duck. We spent a week here in January 2014 as well. It is a terrific getaway. It's private and just the right size for a couple. It's well appointed and comfortable, and has everything you need. It overlooks Lochabar Harbor, which is beautiful, and it is an easy walk to a beach, a blue hole, and great birdwatching. You can kayak to three different cays and see rays, turtles and fish along the way. It's a quiet, restful place that you won't want to leave.
Although you can walk to Clarence Town from the cottage (a longish walk), you'll want a car to explore the island, to go out to eat, and to buy groceries, water, etc.
This place was more than what we hoped for. It is clean, has every thing you need considering kitchen tools, towels, name it ! The view is incredible, We've never seen beautiful turquoise water like this. We would love to go back !
Renting a car is higly recommended.
Thank you very much
This was the greatest vacation of our lives. From the initial booking process, Cheryl took great care of us. We were greeted at the airport by Nancy and driven to our cottage (she also helped us get to the airport on our departure date). She took us to a nice little grocery store on the way and we picked up some things to eat and drink at the cottage. We couldn't believe how beautiful the property was and although the photos are very nice, they can not do this amazing location justice! We rented a vehicle for 2 days and travelled all the way up north and then back down south (the island is small enough that you can see everything, which is great compared to the usual resort atmosphere we were used to). We checked out the Flying Fish Marina which was a great time, and visited Max's Conch Bar and Grill twice (our favourite!!). The people on Long Island are the friendliest we have come across on all our vacations, and made us feel right at home. We would not hesitate to recommend the Whistling Duck Cottage to our friends and family, and only hope we are able to make it back again in the future! Thanks Cheryl and Barry (AND NANCY!).
This is the second year in a row my wife and I stayed at the Whistling Duck along with our 2 friends who stayed at the Passionate Pelican the sister cottage. This was their second year at the Passionate Pelican. I cannot say enough good things about the property and owners Barry & Cheryl. They were staying at their property next door for the first few days upon our arrival. They did EVERYTHING to help make our stay better. They gave us complete privacy, however WE called upon them several times. They were an excellent host & hostess. When we first walked into our cottage there was a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Nice after a long day of travel and they tasted great! They take great care of the property and are genuine and warm people. We were hoping to return in 2014 however the dates we would like are already booked!! :( The atmosphere is Islandy, fun and comfortable at the cottage and it is very clean and decorated very nicely. We found all the amenities that we needed in the kitchen. We like to cook our meals in and there was nothing that was lacking in kitchen for our needs. There were also plenty of linens and beach towels for our use. The bed is comfortable and we never had a bad nights sleep. The view of the harbor is just awesome. Lisa and I sat on the porch and just enjoyed the view each morning. The kayaks that were provided also gave us a lot of enjoyment and allowed us to do some exploring to the barrier islands across the harbor. We will definitely be back to the Whistling Duck soon!!! Can’t wait!!!
Thank you Cheryl & Barry!!
