Swimming, surfing, sailing, etc. are 15 minutes south at Salmon Creek and Bodega Bay, with the quaint village of Bodega, made famous in the Hitchcock movie 'The Birds', just a little further along the road. The nearest beach is across the river in the Goat Rock state park, with bracing beach walks and pounding surf areas (non-swimming). The park also encompasses the lagoon at the river mouth with very safe sandy beach for paddling and shallow-swimming and wooded picnic area. Excellent hiking trails are only minutes away, and canoeing and rafting can be enjoyed on the river below the house. The magnificent Armstrong Redwood Park is 20 mins along the river. Sonoma county is known for vineyards, cattle grazing hillsides (cows, sheep, horses, and llama), and apple orchards (delicious Gravensteins and many others)
Jenner is conveniently situated to visit Sonoma and Napa Valley wine areas which are an hour or so beautiful drive from the house.
The Korbel Champagne winery and other Russian river wine areas are about a 30 minute drive along the river. Nearby river towns are Duncan's Mills, Monte Rio, and Guerneville, and the large city of Santa Rosa is a 40 minute drive inland.
There are excellent restaurants all along the river and the coastline between Bodega and Jenner. The magnificent Coast Highway (HW 1) goes north from San Francisco, past Point Reyes, Bodega, Jenner, through the historic Russian built Fort Ross, and up the beautiful coastal road to Mendocino. The coast drive north from Jenner is rugged and inspiring.
