FRESHLY UPDATED BASE CAMP FOR YOUR GLACIER PARK VACATION

West Glacier Cabin Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

This cabin is the perfect place to begin and end your days of exploring Glacier National Park. We've spent the fall refreshing paint and finalizing our complete modernization of our old cabin. It's clean, comfortable, and has everything you'll need for a great stay. Morning coffee and evening dinners can be enjoyed on the deck with a spectacular view of the peaks inside the Park.

The Park, dining, golf, rafting, and shopping are within walking distance in West Glacier. Fine dining, live theater, spas, and Flathead Lake are only a short drive away in the Flathead Valley. Let us know what activities you'd enjoy--- we've been here a long time, and love to tout the hidden treasures to be found in our community! (Not to mention the not-so-hidden ones, like our favorite drive to the Sun!)

There are two queen beds; an extra twin is available. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for your leisurely breakfast, packing your picnics, and prepping a fresh salad to accompany your BBQ on the deck at the end of the day. If you're just too worn out to make it to the deck, there's plenty of room to lounge in the living room and eat inside.... although we doubt you'll spend much time there!

We've been here a very long time-- Mark's grandfather started Glacier Park Boat Company in 1938. Our daughter is the 3rd generation to grow up on and around the boats. We bought this house to accomodate our family while we spent our summers managing the business. Having sold the boats a couple of years ago, we're happy to share this great spot with visitors.

Denise purchased this cabin in 1996

The view from the deck is amazing! Most of the other rentals in the area are down in the village or on the river... our house is only 1/4 mile---yet another world away.

GREAT VACATION SPOT - RIGHT AT PARK ENTRANCE

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time during our recent vacation. The house was perfect for our family of four with two teenagers. We ate breakfast in the morning, went to the park all day and got back each night after 8 and made dinner. We had wifi connectivity that we used to check out trail status at night. There were pots and pans and plates, etc in the kitchen for cooking. There was also a tv and dvd player with some popular movie titles - no network tv though - but who comes to Glacier to watch TV! Our host emailed us with helpful instructions on where to get groceries and things to do as well as left us a nice gift of coffee and huckleberry taffy for our stay. The best part of the rental was the front living room. It was roomy with fairly new carpeting, and had a great big picture window to look out into the park. The place was perfect for us and if we come back we will definitely look into this rental again.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your trip! I'm especially happy that the weather cooperated and GTTS Road was opened over Logan Pass before you left. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you next time you're headed to Glacier.

GREAT LOCATION AND VIEW, OKAY HOUSE.

  • 3 of 5
Three of us, my husband and I and my sister-in-law stayed for seven nights.

What I liked about the house....the house has an excellent location within a few minutes to the west side park entrance, close to the West Glacier businesses and Apgar Village just inside the park entrance, it was clean upon our arrival, beds were comfortable, kitchen was well appointed with everything you need for making meals. It had a great spacious living room with a cozy gas fireplace and large picture windows to admire the mountain view. Also we enjoyed the jar of huckleberry jelly and huckleberry taffy left for us.

What I did not like....the heating system, we had a problem with getting the thermostat to turn on to the heat setting. After a call to Denise, we finally got it to work but the heat is in the living room gas fireplace and another wall heater in the dining/kitchen area which worked great for that part of the house but did not keep the back of the house as warm which is where the two bedrooms and bathrooms are. The garbage disposal did not work at all for us which wasn't a huge problem but would have been more convenient if it worked. There were various lightbulbs out around the house and in the refrigerator, again not a huge deal but details overlooked by whoever cleans and maintains the house. Also the bedroom lamp pictured in the bedroom that is not the master should be fixed or replaced as it's wobbly. As mentioned in a previous review, the toaster did not toast very well even on a higher setting. The amenities list mentions a video library, but only saw about 4 DVD's on the shelf under the TV.

We don't mind older houses with older fixtures but like everything to be in good working order and easy to use.

Overall, we had a good stay for the price as West Glacier area lodging and other vrbo properties in WG to us was very expensive compared to other national parks areas we have visited. Go down to Lake McDonald Lodge and have a Huckleberry Daquiri, they are really good.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the input.... we always wrestle with the heating issue this time of the season. I think we'll go to leaving the heat pads on the bed plugged in year round from now on.
And ironically, I had clean crew check all lights just before you stay... they don't get used much during the summer here, as it stays light for most waking hours. I'll certainly check it myself from now on.
Othewise, I'm glad to hear that you had a great vacation... and I hope you'll give us a call if you get back to the area. Best wishes, Denise

FIRST TIME IN GLACIER

  • 4 of 5
My husband & I enjoyed our stay in this home in West Glacier. It was cozy and in a great location. The owner was helpful in giving us tips about where to shop for groceries, places to eat, etc. The little local restaurant in West Glacier is great --- scrumptious huckleberry pie!!.

GREAT VIEW BUT NOT WELL MAINTAINED

  • 2 of 5
The stay at this rental was mostly enjoyable. The location is great and the view from the deck was spectacular. I think we ate all of our dinners and a couple of lunches on the deck. The carpet was nice and appeared very clean. However, we did have a problem with the cleanliness and general maintenance of the rental. While we don't have a problem with an older or rustic place we do expect it to be clean and for all of the advertised amenities to be functional.

Kitchen:
- The dishes and silverware in the cabinets were not clean. We could see food residue on some of them and many of them felt greasy. We put everything in the dishwasher in order to clean them. The dishwasher made all of the noise you would expect from a dish washer, making us think that it was cleaning the dishes, but after the wash cycle completed the dishes came out no cleaner. We resorted to washing all of the dishes we used by hand. I noticed that inside the dishwasher, where the water drains out, there was a brown sludge. I’m not sure why it was there but a healthy dishwasher shouldn’t have that.
- The stove top and microwave were dirty and greasy.
- The cabinet doors/drawers were sticky and greasy.
- The refrigerator interior and the drawers and the shelves inside the door were dirty. The refrigerator handles were sticky.
- The garbage disposal needed to be reset by pressing the red reset button on its bottom after nearly every use.
- Every knife in the kitchen was extremely dull.
- The toaster, while it appears to work when you first start it, will not keep a piece of bread down long enough to toast it. The bread is continuously ejected regardless of the setting used.

General:
- The furniture in the living room was very dusty.
- The dining room table and chairs were dirty and sticky. My wife wiped them all off with a sponge and the sponge was black after she finished.
- DVDs do not eject properly from the DVD player. When you press eject, the drawer comes out part way and if you want to retrieve your DVD you must physically pull the drawer out to get it out.
- The exhaust fan in the main bathroom does not function.
- The drain in the master bathroom shower is extremely slow.

We have rented vacation properties using VRBO three other times and never had any issues with the cleanliness and up-keep of any of them. We were surprised with the state of this property and would find it hard to recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your input, we will certainly revisit these issues, as this is the first complaint we've had in that regard. As advertised, our house is generally a clean, comfortable base camp for your visit to Glacier Park. And you're spot-on about the deck view... I hope you enjoyed your visit to our area.
