I have been retired for a number of years and wanted a place in the Big Bend since 1971 when I first visited at the age of 18. We purchased the property our home now sets on in 1981 and put up the house in 2007. We spend our time between our main home in Katy, TX, our sons home in San Marcos and our here. I love it out here in the Texas Outback. So peaceful, so calm.

Janet Eby purchased this house in 2007

This home site was selected from hundreds of acres and several other possible home sites to take advantage of the marvelous views, abundant wildlife, beautiful desert plants, easy road access, and privacy.

This house provides a perfect escape from the stresses of modern life, but is close enough to the highway and Terlingua to avoid being cut off from society.

FAMILY EVENT

  • 5 of 5
This was truly an amazing "ranch"! My family spent 5 days at the ranch and enjoyed everything it had to offer. We were all able to spread out and have our own space. After a long day of hiking at Big Bend,(which was approx. 30-45 minutes, worth the drive) we had an amazing retreat awaiting us. Sit in the lounge chairs provided to watch an amazing sunrise and sunset! The kitchen is furnished with everything you would need and more. We will definitely return.

JANUARY 2014 VACATION

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Rancho Mula Oso in January 2014. We spent our days hiking in the Big Bend National Park. When we returned in the afternoon, we relaxed outside with our glasses of wine and watched the quail at the owner's feeder. In addition to the wildlife, this property also had some good mountain views. Fortunately, the kitchen is well stocked with cookware and spices because we didn't find many restaurants in the Terlingua area. I highly recommend buying your groceries in Alpine before arriving in Terlingua. I noticed the sulfur smell in the water. But, the owner supplies drinking water. Overall, it's a nice rental with some good views. We also selected this property because it is pet friendly.

RANCHO MULA OSO

Our family enjoyed our visit greatly. We floated the Rio Grand and hiked in Big Bend and then came back to relax in comfort. The kids loved the ranch area and the amazing stars at night. We all wish we could have stayed longer.

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK

  • 5 of 5
The water has a high degree of sulfur in it. The owner ran the water before we got there. As time went by, the oder began to fade. Drinking water was provided in 5 gal bottles. Other wise, we enjoyed the quiet. We spent our days hiking in Big Bend Naional Park.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately this happens with well water. We do run the water before our guest get there. Most of the time our guest wouldn't notice a sulfur smell. We always provide good drinking water. We are looking at putting a chlorinator on it to help with the well water. Glad you had a great time.

STARS UNDER THE TEXAS SKIES!

  • 4 of 5
We were very comfortable here in this well appointed home. The views all around are stunning. Terlingua and Study Butte are delightful places to visit and the Starlight Theatre is a must! But, the highlight is the stars at night! They are absolutely amazing! Rancho Mula is far enough away from the hwy that it is quiet and dark. It has great internet service and lots of channels on the TV to watch when you wish. There are many interesting books at your disposal and collections to ponder. The kitchen is well stocked. The managers are readily available for your every need. We would return to this lovely getaway in a minute.
