Overview

Lajitas House Rental Photos and Description

Main House has 3 Bedrooms, 2 baths, 1 shower, sleeps 6 to 8, Bunk house sleeps 4

This extremely comfortable three bedroom vacation rental house near Terlingua has excellent views, lots of room inside and out, and easy access to area attractions. The owners have Native American artifacts, an expansive rock collection, and locally inspired art displayed throughout the house.

We also have a bunk house with a queen bed and a bunk bed with two twin beds, bathroom with shower if needed at an extra $45 nightly.

Views include Christmas Mountains, Hen Egg Mountain, numerous rock formations, and many other hills and mountains.

Water and feed is provided for the abundant wildlife. Sit out on the front or back porch and enjoy the fantastic views while watching birds, quail, mule deer, aoudads, lizards, and lots of other wildlife. Enjoy the sights and smells of the desert plant life such as ocotillo, several varieties of flowering cactus, creosote, agave, sotol, yuccas, wildflowers, and native grasses. Take a walk around the property for a closer look at the desert.

At night, turn off the lights and be amazed by the Big Bend night skies. Cook out on the gas grill while enjoying total solitude and privacy. As a guest at a Terlingua Ranch property, you will also have access to hundreds of miles of dirt and rock roads across the 200,000 acres of Terlingua Ranch plus the pool at the lodge.

Inside the house, enjoy all modern comforts, including AC/heat, full kitchen, two baths, three comfortable bedrooms, cozy dining area, spacious living room, satellite TV in the living room and master bedroom, wireless internet, and a full sized washer and dryer.

Rancho Mula Oso is an ideal vacation property. Hang out in the comfort of the home. Enjoy the remote property with desert plant, wildlife, and views. You'll never have to leave the property. But, you'll probably want to check out the national park, the state park, the river, the ghost town, or just enjoy a scenic drive. Do as much or as little as you like. Either way, you will want to come back.

Due to concerns from neighbors and potential liability, we must prohibit discharge of any firearms on the property for any reason.

About Janet Eby

I have been retired for a number of years and wanted a place in the Big Bend since 1971 when I first visited at the age of 18. We purchased the property our home now sets on in 1981 and put up the house in 2007. We spend our time between our main home in Katy, TX, our sons home in San Marcos and out here. I love it out here in the Texas Outback. So peaceful, so calm.

Janet Eby purchased this house in 2007

Why Janet Eby chose Lajitas

This home site was selected from hundreds of acres and several other possible home sites to take advantage of the marvelous views, abundant wildlife, beautiful desert plants, easy road access, and privacy.

What makes this house unique

This house provides a perfect escape from the stresses of modern life, but is close enough to the highway and Terlingua to avoid being cut off from society.

Great Home for Exploring Big Bend

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to stay at Rancho Mula Oso. Both times we were a large crowd and the house and "Bunkhouse" accommodated all of us. We like this home because of the large living area/dining area that allowed all eight of us to enjoy our meals or spread out to enjoy multiple "game" stations. The kitchen is large for getting meals together. The house is well stocked so you do not need to bring any extras. Bottled water is provided so we did not need to stock up on that as well.

The house is very close to Study Butte and Terlingua and about 25 minutes to the entrance of Big Bend National Park. It was a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking. We prepared our meals before we arrived to Big Bend so that we could shower and then relax on one of the many outdoor sitting areas while the food was in the oven. We never ran out of hot water while showering either. The place sits on many acres with stunning views of the mountains. We were able to experience beautiful sunsets right off the front porch. And they have the best star gazing chairs we have ever sat in.

Rancho Mula Oso is actually someone's home so it is personalized with many artifacts and paintings that we never grew tired of exploring. Every day we would spot something new. The owners have the house stocked like they would want to have it so we never needed anything extra (lots of towels, blankets, fans, kitchen items, etc). There is also a washer and dryer if needed.

Janet and Daryl were very easy to work with and attended immediately to any issues that came up while we were there. We really enjoy this place and we will be back.

Rancho Mula Oso Hacienda

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay while adventuring in Big Bend. The place was very clean, well furnished and well stocked. It sits on some acerage with beautiful environmental surroundings and great views from both front and rear decks. Very close to the old Ghost Town Terlingua where you can have a great meal, drinks and listen to live music at the Starlight Theater after a day of exploring Big Bend National Park or enjoy great coffee or espresso and breakfast at the Posada Milagro beofre heading out on a mountain bike trail.

I would recommend the Rancho Mula Oso to my friends and stay here again if I return to Big Bend.

My wife and two sons stayed at this property and can't say enough good about how wonderful our stay was at Rancho Mula Oso. The house is very clean and well stocked. The Black Jack Crossing Golf Course which is close by, is one of the best courses in the U.S. We will stay there again when we are in the area. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
