We purchased our condo in May 2010 and had it completely renovated and redecorated. EVERYTHING IS BRAND NEW! Even the windows and sliding door is new with dual paned glass. We also own the 2 bedroom unit next door (See VRBO #290416). It is also completely re-done. Both units together make for a great multi-family vacation.
Our unit is a ground level, small 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom condominium in a low rise (2 story) complex located one mile south of downtown Kailua-Kona. A very easy walk takes you to all the activities. Even if you don't need the second bedroom it is a nice room to read or take an afternoon nap, and we have priced our unit to provide affordable vacation accommodations.
Both bedrooms have new queen size beds and air conditioners. The lanai has brand new patio furniture and is a great place to enjoy dinner after a busy vacation day at the beach or sightseeing!!Relax and watch the new 40' flat screen TV in the living room. We provide free wireless internet (bring your laptop), but bring your cell phone as there is no phone in the unit. There is also a AC unit in the living room.
The updated kitchen is well equipped with brand new appliances and everything you should need to cook. 4 ceiling fans appoint the condo..An assigned parking space is only 30 feet from the front door. Beach towels, coolers and lawn chairs are also provided for your beach days. The complex pool is AWESOME!!!
Kona Shores is an ocean side complex centrally located on Alii Drive which is the oceanfront road that goes to Kailua-Kona. It is a short walk for shopping, dining, people watching or just to go and have an evening cocktail. The Big Island has just about everything you could ask for...Great Beaches...Golfing...Deep-Sea Fishing...Snorkeling...Diving...an Active Volcano and Much, Much More!

WALK TO TOWN
We bought this condo in May 2010 in a small 80 unit complex. We also own the unit next door which we purchased in January 2010. We bought both units for us to use and to have as vacation rentals. We wanted to appoint them very nice as they will be our homes away from home when we escape to the Big Island for some rest and relaxation. The friendly attitude of the people (both local and tourists) make this a great place to visit. We are both retired and are looking forward to spending time at our new place with the kids and grandchildren... Doug & Evie

"Your condo was amazing and was one of the highlights of our trip. The location was easy to get to and extremely close to Coconut Grove and walking distance to the Royal Kona Resort Luau. Btw, we were very surprised in how well stocked the place was: appliances, towels, beach chairs, umbrella, etc. I will definitely recommend your location on Flipkey! Definitely underrated!
I thought it was odd that Doug used the picture of the pool as cover picture and unfortunately for us we didn't realize sooner the reason why. It is a beautiful and awesome spot to just hang out and relax!!! It was probably the smartest condo property set up we say along the shores around Kona. Having the common area with BBQ and then the pool right up against the shoreline for all renters to enjoy the waterfront is smart designing, yes, just like a resort!!!
Then the finish/set up and access including parking was a very good, especially for Doug's place. It was well equipped and furnished. For a couple it is was definitely awesome for the price (no it's not a 6 star resort room). Would be pretty decent for a couple with smaller kids that can share a room/bed. The bathroom would be just be a bit tight for everybody to be brushing their teeth in the morning.
The next great surprise for us was a great little coffee/breakfast place right next door (The Green Flash)!!!!! Wife loved the Lattes and the breakfast sandwiches were very tasty and nice pastries (early morning because seem to sell out) for the sweet tooth.
Then the location was perfect because close the center of things without being in the hustle. About a 20 minute walk to the edge of downtown on the well marked and maintained wallking/bike lane along Ali Drive. And central to access to most of the best beaches and snorkeling along the coast.
Even though we were told it is a laid back place to visit there were plenty of activities besides the beaches and pool to explore and experience. Especially the Volcano national park and the landscape and small towns on the north highway loop. The vastly changing landscapes and vegetation make it a beautiful drive.
The last and happily wonderful experience was managing the whole rental process with Doug in the private process. Doug was on top of all communications and while not as simple as just giving a CC online he made and managed things very smoothly including a very timely return of security deposit!!
Thanks so much Doug. We will definitely make any plans early should we return to the Big Island so we can secure this property. Wouldn't want to take a chance on any less enjoyable of an experience visiting this beautiful, safe, clean and welcoming home and vacation destination!!!
When we stepped into the condo....couldn't believe my eyes!!!!! It was perfect!! Very clean! Even had coffee for the mornings!! We were here for 16 days, it felt like home!!! Well stocked, beach chairs & towels, cooler, information books, etc!! Even band-aids and peroxide to use when I cut myself on the lava! Close to downtown area, walked there many times, for our luau, entertainment, tours. Went to Humpy's a few times!! The only complaint I have is the bed was too soft, but we managed!
Easy access in and out of complex! Close to beach for snorkeling! The barbecue area, the pool, the people...fantastic!!!! Would I recommend this unit to family and friends......in a heartbeat!!!!!! Caretakers are fantastic!!!!!! We had everything we needed and more! Well done Doug!!!! Look forward to returning one day,for longer!!
We were in Kona for a week for our wedding and had an amazing time! This was a lovely little condo, perfect for 4 adults. It had all the amenities you could think of, very comfortable beds and remodeled kitchen. AC in each bedroom and living room which was much needed. The pool was clean and quiet and overlooked the ocean and was the perfect place to watch the sunset. Very convenient location with a short walk to town. We were very pleased with our decision to stay here!
This condo looks exactly as pictured in the listing - very nicely furnished, comfortable, and clean. We found everything we could possibly need (and more), including beach chairs, cooler, umbrella, maps, etc. The location was great for exploring the island, a short drive to the town of Kailua-Kona, close to the airport. We absolutely loved the pool (very clean, never crowded, overlooking the ocean). Doug, the owner, was extremely helpful and answered all our questions very promptly. Thank you!
This stay our 4th on the Kailua/Kona side of the Big Island & this rental unit by far the best we have experienced. Pride of ownership very evident in the quality of the furnishings for guests. Three air conditioners in the suite plus quality up-to-date appliances & fully stocked kitchen smallwares.
Pool area lovely, clean, & well maintained was perfect place to watch sun disappear in the ocean each evening. Very pleased we chose this rental unit which we understand is 1 of 3 in the Kona Shores complex owned by th Turks.
We found this location to be ideal for our needs. It gave us the much needed walks into town - especially with all the eating one does around the holidays! The suite was quiet, it had everything we needed to live an independent life and the pool was clean and immediately adjacent to the ocean - lovely!
