I have lived in this area since 1972 and have been a Realtor since 1997. I enjoy sharing my passion for Mt. Hood with everyone. I try to offer the very best of what people are looking for in their mountain experience.

Dale Crockatt purchased this cabin in 1977

I bought this cabin in 1977. It was owned by one family since it was built in 1925. It didn't have hot water and only a wood cook-stove for cooking and heat. There was only a toilet for a bathroom. It was furnished and I still have the rocking chairs that came with it- one is still there. The fire place was falling away from the house and was replaced by a woodstove. I replaced the woodstove when I turned it into a monthly rental. It was rented monthly for the last five years. All my tenants/guests have raved about how nice it is. I have worked on improving it for 33 years and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Access to Mt. Hood. Affordable and comfortable! Free suggestions about where to go, what to do.

A lovely getaway cabin!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we couldn't be happier! This cabin feels very isolated and private, but is really just minutes away from a number of excellent restaurants, trails, stores, and museums. Whether you're looking to get away or find some adventure, this cabin is just perfect.

There are a few quirks - the sink turns itself off occasionally, the lighting is not great, and the whole place shakes when you use the washing machine - but overall, this place is a GREAT DEAL. Especially for travelers on a budget! The owner does ask that you wash the linens before you leave, but that keeps the rental cost down so it's worth it in the end. Plus, he provides the laundry detergent.

Just a tip: Read through the listed amenities well before packing for your trip. This cabin is well-stocked, so aside from clothes and groceries you really don't need to bring much! Also, check out the Castle Canyon trail. It's within walking distance from the cabin. It's a steep trek, but the lookout at the top is breathtaking.

We can't wait to come back!

Peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5
Loved our stay in this cute and comfortable cabin. The location is close to Hwy 26 and there are other cabins nearby, yet it was very private and quiet. There is a trailhead right down the street and many great hiking spots within a 10 minute drive. We loved the scenery and hiking on Mt Hood and the cabin was a perfect base for exploring!

Mixed

Overall, we had a pretty good, though mixed, experience at the cabin. It was very clean, and cozy, and Dale has obviously put a lot of care into renovating it. The kitchen was spacious, and well-stocked with cooking utensils, glasses, dishes, etc. (a dish rack would’ve been nice, but maybe we just couldn’t find it!). The gas fireplace heats the cabin really well, and the internet was outstanding.

Unfortunately, the backyard was too overgrown and wild with weeds to comfortably walk down to the river, or to be able to enjoy a fire in the fairly meager fire pit. Lighting in the cabin was also problematic. The overhead "track"(?) lighting in the living room flickered, no matter what setting, but especially if you tried to dim them at all (and then they buzzed, too), so it was either “on” or “off,” and when they were on, they were way too bright once it got dark outside. The “tapping” mechanism for the lights above the kitchen breakfast counter was bafflingly difficult/awkward to reach, especially for a smaller guest. Also, the freezer leaked into the refrigerator, so we were sopping up water in the fridge our entire stay.

All of these issues can be addressed, and we wish Dale the best on improving his property, but we will most likely be looking elsewhere for future accommodations.

Owner's Response: Robert, I'm sorry your stay was less than you expected. I spent much of this month in Doctor offices and the hospital after being diagnosed with stage four cancer. My May wildflowers got out of control since I was unable to mow after they lost their bloom. It is so busy this time of year, it is hard to coordinate maintenance, but the meadow/lawn was mowed the day you left. I guess the $120 I spent on LED lights isn't working well either. The refrigerator is already fixed, it just needed to be turned off and thawed for 24 hours. I never had anyone ask for a dish rack- I'll pick one up. I appreciate the comments so I can make it better for my future guests.

Wonderful hideaway booked at last minute

  • 5 of 5
Secluded with some neighbors. Close to 'town' and the mountains. A great old time feel with a modern feel and amenities. Very clean and well maintained. We booked less than a week before our trip and were very pleased with the quick back and forth. Overall great!

Some things to consider: Be prepared for the elements! We came on a whim and were a bit unprepared for 2 days of straight rain and the winter weather advisory in the mountains (in May). These were our fault not the location!
Cell reception and texting were tough in the cabin, but the wifi was great. (As far as texts, my iphone would only imsg and wouldn't text normally until in town)

Overall, despite being unprepared we loved our stay. It proved to be a highlight in our week long Oregon vacation that spanned from the coast, to the mountains, and back to Portland!!

Thanks for renting us this cute cabin! My friend and I had a great time! We actually wished we could have stayed longer! The cabin is very clean and updated. Dale the owner was very helpful and nice. We would definetly stay here again!
Just a couple of suggestions (Dale asked!) - A couple more lights in the living room and a couple more towels in the bathroom. Other than that, the place is great! (My short friend did have a little trouble reaching the touch pad for the eating bar lights.)

Owner's Response: That's what I like to hear Diane! I appreciate the praise and also the suggestions. I have been looking for wall mount reading lights, but haven't found the right ones yet. I want to change out a couple switches- I thought they were nifty when the contractor put them in. Not so much after using them. Thank you for the nudge! I hope you will come back again soon!

Coast people

It was a wonderfully cozy little hideaway, yet handy to stores and eateries. We hiked, snowshoed, checked out Government Camp from one end to the to the other and, at night, watched adventure movies. Life was pretty tough...
Dale had the cabin warm for our arrival. We had everything we needed for a memorable week-end. Life is good. :)
