disappointing

Cottage is a hundred years old and has character but has not been updated and is in need of some TLC and a good cleaning. You can walk to Harbor Springs but the driveway and road are narrow and busy - no sidewalks! Not much area to walk the beach either. The beach is nice but the water table is too low for fishing, or boating because there isn't a dock to reach deeper water. We were able to walk to a sandbar that was aprox. 100 to 150 yards out. Little kids can swim but not adults because of water table. House is a distance from beach and beach can't be seen from porch due to a lot of trees and underbrush so adults must be on beach to supervise children but there is no relief from sun such as shade or swimming. We did not stay for the entire week that we rented- we left two full days early. My recommendation would be to personally visit any rental prior to booking. I didn't do that in booking this cottage and I was extremely disappointed.
Owner's Response: This is a 100 year old heritage cottage which we constantly update and maintain to provide modern amenities but always to preserve the character of the building. In the last 3 years we have painted the exterior, new roof, HDTV, free high speed internet, fax, cable tv, new kitchen island and stove, new carpeting in living room; bed linens match and are updated frequently. We do tree trimming every year but prefer to keep property wooded with its 200+year old trees.
This place is not suited for someone wanting a brand new home; this is our summer cottage on the beach filled with antiques and all about casual relaxing. Many rentals in this area are across the road from the beach and have 300 plus steps to access it. We have a grassy play area and one of the best beaches in the area.
We take cleaning and service very seriously as it is our second home. We spend $200.00 per week for cleaning and have 2 separate care takers to insure quick response to any needs.
