Waterfront cottage with large deck, cathedral ceilings, spectacular views and southern exposure. Located at the end of a winding dirt road, surrounded by fields, wildflowers and saltwater. Includes launch site for kayak or small boat. Paddle all day and never see it all! Explore the many islands or follow the shore out to the open ocean. Listen to lobster boats leaving early in the morning to haul traps, see eagles and deer, fish for striped bass, watch the fog roll in across the cove in the afternoon. Enjoy a beautiful sunset over Long Cove. Sand beach and pristine quarry for swimming and hiking a short walk from the cottage, through a former quarrying village. A day trip by passenger ferry from Port Clyde to spectacular cliff side trails and art galleries on Monheghan Island offer a true ocean getaway and a taste of Maine island life.

Great Location, Great Place

Located in a private, quiet coastal area where there isn't too much recreational activities going on out your back porch. Lobster boats and kayaks but not much else. Great spot for access to the water and hiking and swimming.
Also near Camden, Rockland and Thomaston, so somewhat larger towns with great food and sights are nearby.
The studio is clean, spacious and just a great location. Just what we were looking for!

We stayed here in June of 2007 and are headed back next week ( June of 2008) and can't wait. We live in Maine year-round but love the Clark Island area as a getaway place. The cottage fronts on a tidal inlet and is an ideal spot for kayaking. The open ocean is just a short distance away, and there are great hiking possibilities all the way around the island, connected to the mainland by a stone causeway.
The general area of the cottage ( The St George peninsula) is beautiful, with lots of saltwater farms and a couple of fishing villages. There are art galleries and several good restaurants within short distances. If you come be sure to have a meal at the Craignair Inn which is within walking distance. There's a distinctly different feel to this area as opposed to the much busier, much more touristy Camden area. It's much more bucolic and relaxing. It's true that this isn't for everyone - that's part of the charm! For travellers who don't need or desire a lot of entertainment, but instead are looking for quiet, solitude, and elemental beauty this is a great spot.

Not All That It Appears

This is a great little cottage and Clark Island is conveniently located between Rockland and Marshall Point. However, the bathroom and all running water (including the kitchen sink) is outside in an unheated building attached to the deck. The property sits quite a distance from the main road down a dirt path which is slow going because of the pot holes. Also, I would not plan on sitting outside at night because of the mosquitoes. The view during the day is great, but if convenience to other activities or the ability to walk to a restaurant is important, this would not be the ideal spot.
