About Nicole

We're a family of five that have the great blessing to live in the Upper Peninsula. We started with our frequent visits to the area from our Detroit suburbs home, then eventually relocated to the peninsula full-time.

Nicole purchased this house in 2005
Why Nicole chose Manistique

We love the space and the privacy our vacation home offers. Plus, there's plenty of room for the kids to bring friends! I grew up in Escanaba, just over an hour from the home, so it really feels like I'm back to my roots. My kids have loved being a part of the culture on the Garden Peninsula. Our favorite summertime activities have always been the 4th of July Parade in Garden, Fayette State Park and beach, and Big Springs, just north of Indian Lake. In fact, we love it so much up here, that we've settled in the area permanently. The kids love our K - 12 Big Bay de Noc school system! And, living so close to our vacation home helps them learn the value of hard work -- we clean the cottage for guests ourselves! We always like to know how we've done -- it's our goal to deliver it to you as clean and fresh as we like to have it ourselves.

What makes this house unique

You've got the benefit of dealing directly with the owner, and having the owner nearby in case you need assistance. The Garden Peninsula is full of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. We hope you'll be able to enjoy the local culture and activities within 20 minutes or so of the cottage. And you'll be just ten minutes from the Garden Mini Mart -- and in our opinion the best meat ever! People come from great distance to purchase the fresh cuts from owners Nick and Patti Thennes. We love everything about the cottage -- the layout of the house, the privacy and nature of the woodsy vacation home area, and the amazing location on the beautiful Garden Peninsula.

We Didn't Want To Leave

We Didn't Want To Leave

Submitted: November 15, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We vacationed for a week with my family and my sister's family. 4 adults and 3 kids. We all had a fabulous time and no one wanted to leave.
The house had everything. Plenty of towels, toilet paper, and any other essentials you might need. The house was spotless, and very cozy. My husband and I took the loft room and bathroom, my sister and her hubby had the master bedroom, the kids took over the lower level. It was nice to retire to our separate levels when we needed a bit of quiet.
The sunrise in the morning was spectacular. I found myself waking up early just so I could watch it. I saw my first bald eagle while sitting my the fire pit early one morning and enjoying my coffee. It was awesome.
The house is off a secluded road and it's about a 20 minute drive to the main road and civilization but you feel like you are on your own planet. When we wanted quiet we stayed around the cabin... when we wanted excitement we drove to the pictured rocks, kitchitikipi, into town or to one of the beaches.
The beach at the property is a little mucky and rocky but we had read the reviews prior to our trip so we brought water shoes and were fine.
The kitchen had everything. My niece celebrated a birthday while we were there and I had all the tools to bake her cake.
We really loved it and when it came time to leave, none of us were ready. The minute we walked through those doors we all felt right at home. I can't think of a thing I would change. I hope to visit this place many times in the future. It was a perfect vacation for everyone.
Owner's Response: The rugged Lake Michigan shoreline is gorgeous at Barque Point and noted for its sunrises and wildlife viewing. Sandy beaches are within 15 - 20 minutes drive at Rogers State Park on US-2 and Fayette State Park on M-183.

Wonderful Weekend

My family went up to Manistique for a wedding. We decided to stay at a house so that we could all be together. This house was wonderful. There was plenty of room for all of us and had a beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Having a house for all of us made the weekend much more enjoyable and relaxing. I would stay at this house again and again!!

Manistique Cabin

this was just what my Wife and I needed. We took our two dogs and just relaxed and enjoyed the serenity of the U.P. It was an odd time of the year to go, with no snow, yet not warm enough for some of the summer attractions. We still had a blast and loved the little town of Manistique. My only complaint would be the odd smelling water. Thought it would go away with time, but lasted all three days we were there. Overall, that was a minor deal and we plan on visiting again!

Last fall we came to this house to visit for a week. It was the most amazing experience and we didnt want to leave. Nicole provides EVERYTHING you could think of. If you need her, she is just a phone call away. The house is amazing and very well kept and for the beauty of the house, the scenes and all that is provided the price isnt bad either. We had 9 kids and 4 adults and everyone slept comfy with no complains what so ever. The only thing that the kids complained about is that it is set WAY back, and is very private but its like 10 miles to the main road but most would not be bothered by that, the kids were just anxious to do everything. We went in the fall so it was cold, that was my only complaint. This year we WILL be coming back but in the summer when we can fully enjoy this beautiful house that Nicole graciously is letting people enjoy. Nicole thank you again for EVERYTHING. Property was clean, owner's represenative responsive to any problems, beach non-existant but several sandy ones a short drive away. Great porch with lake views and Eagles flying by. Gravel access roads bumpy and dusty and 10 miles to get to most places.
