'SPRUCE LODGE AT HADLEY POINT' TOTALLY CAPTURES THE FEELING OF MAINE!

Bar Harbor House Rental Photos and Description

Absolutely Charming 3BR/2BA Home just Minutes from the Beach Sleeps 6

Maine is called 'Vacationland'--Mt. Desert Island, home of Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, is an incredibly beautiful place where people come to relax, to play and to appreciate all that nature has to offer. 'Spruce Lodge at Hadley Point' has been designed so that you and your family can stay in a wonderful and comfortable environment while you explore and experience all the beauty that surrounds you! Our charming 3-level home has a bright, open floor plan where the living room, dining area & kitchen share one big space on the main level. Just down the hall is a lovely bedroom, full bath and laundry room. Upstairs is a private loft with a balcony and large separate bedroom. Downstairs there is the family room with game table, beverage refrigerator and a really CUTE bedroom that we call 'The Rose Room' and another spacious full bath. Spruce green (of course) is our theme color & it accents 'miles' of natural pine, fun wallpapers & clean painted walls! The furniture, dishes, art & collectibles were chosen with the Maine Woods in mind!

Activities:: The beach at Hadley Point which is only a block away is a public area where you can launch a boat, have picnics, sunbathe, skip rocks and watch for seals and other wildlife. This is a favorite spot for the kayak rental companies to start and end their day trips-it's fun to watch them come and go- you might want to join them! You can swim, boat, hike and ride bikes on your own or go out on a whale-watching tour or sunset cruise on Frenchman's Bay. There are fantastic restaurants, great shopping and even mini golf courses nearby. There is an awesome 'Art Deco' movie theater called 'The Criterion' located in downtown Bar Harbor and two evenings a week there are band concerts on the Village Green. Several art shows are held during the summer and cruise ships come into the harbor weekly! Mt. Desert Island is truly an Unforgettable Place with something for Everyone!

I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could!

Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.'

We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years.

My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least!

He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages.

Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!

We have spent a week at Spruce Lodge for the past two years. The home is immaculate and well stocked with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful Maine vacation, including a lobster pot with its own propane burner and all the plates and utensil you need for a lobster dinner, (including the bibs!). We are a family with 4 kids under the age of 12 and there was plenty of room and things to do even when the weather was inclement. It is conveniently located near Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Schoonic Peninsula. Hadley Point is a short walk and we were able to build a campfire and enjoy dinner right on the beach. .The owner is a pleasure to deal with and goes out of her way to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. We look forward to returning to Spruce Lodge.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation

Maine island enchantment, all the comforts of home

My wife and I feel very lucky to have stayed at Spruce Lodge during our recent, and first, visit to Mount Desert Island. The description and photos here are accurate and I read them carefully, but I was still surprised and delighted by what we found when we arrived: the property is easy to access but feels hidden away in the woods; the wrap around deck invites outdoor dining and socializing, and has both a big propane grill and a large standalone propane-fired boiling pot; inside, the high ceiling with its skylight provides a sense of open outdoorsy spaciousness to the kitchen/dining/living-room area.

We found the kitchen to be as well equipped as (and somewhat better organized than) our own: Lorie clearly takes pleasure in anticipating guests’ needs and providing for them. She emailed excellent maps and driving directions, including tips on where to stop to shop before arriving at the lodge. And she kept in touch by email to give additional helpful information and answer any questions. When the other half of our family party of two couples arrived, the lodge simply felt homier as the other couple moved their gear downstairs, which has a bedroom and full bath as well as a cozy family room.

As a home base for exploring Bar Harbor and the rest of the island, you cannot ask for a better location. A short way off the main road (Route 3) at the top of the island, you can go east toward Bar Harbor or west toward the airport in Trenton or whatever you need in Ellsworth. While we were there, we particularly appreciated the convenience because Acadia National Park was closed due to the government shutdown. We ended up taking some hikes on a couple of the more remote trails and driving around the east side of the island. Coming back to Spruce Lodge, we felt like locals returning home, easing into our private driveway amid the woods.

We had a marvelous and memorable stay at Spruce Lodge in autumn, and we hope to return in summer, when the water is warm enough for us to rent kayaks and explore Frenchman Bay.

Great stay

Went up to Maine with a few friends (3 couples) for some hiking in Acadia. This house was exactly what we needed. 3 bedrooms (on three different levels) all with queen beds and lots of privacy. Everything was very clean and the house was well stocked with anything that we could have needed to relax and cook/grill a few dinners at home. A short drive from downtown and the national park. Lorie was also great to deal with. Very responsive and gave recommendations around town and very good directions/instructions. All in all, out of the 6 of us, no one had even 1 complaint. Thanks for a great stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Irina!! I live for a great review and you made my day. You and your friends were the first guests of the 2013 season to stay at Spruce Lodge and I am so glad that you ALL enjoyed it so much. Every year we strive to exceed last year's good service and we are off to a great start!!
I know that it feels a bit uncertain when you want to make a reservation and wonder if what you see (and hear) is what you will get. I assure all of my guests that they will be very happy with their choice to stay at one of our vacation rental homes.
If anyone would like to discuss their vacations plans which hopefully would include one of our wonderful vacation rentals in the Bar Harbor area please give me a call! Thank you. Lorie

Fantastic vacation spot!

Our daughter chose Bar Harbor for destination wedding, but the resort didn't have any 2BD suites available, so I contacted Lorie, and we chose Spruce Lodge. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the house was spotless, and the location, peace and fun we had, priceless. It was perfect for our 2-year old granddaughter, my mother was very comfortable, and having a second living area downstairs gave my husband his needed down time. Every ammenity you can think of is there, and the owner emailed frequently to make sure everything was okay. It was like being in a secluded cabin, with only a few other homes in the area. I would highly recommend staying there, and if I ever go back to Bar Harbor for an extended period of time, I will definitely stay there again! Thanks, Lorie, for a wonderful vacation and making our daughter's wedding a pleasant memory instead of a stressful event!!!!
Owner's Response: Thank you, Diane! I am so pleased that you felt that Spruce Lodge was the perfect location for your week long celebration. I had a great experience working with YOU as we both made sure that your entire family would be comfortable during your very special time in Bar Harbor. I know that wedding planning and making all of those decisions CAN make for a stressful time but you all seemed to settle right in and take it in stride. I really enjoyed seeing those beautiful pictures of the wedding - I only wish that you had sent me some cake! :-)
As you have probably heard me say before...if you have read more reviews...that I especially love to hear that several generations are traveling together regardless of the occasion. Each age group benefits in a different way and the great memories that are made last far longer than the vacation itself-that is so important.
As the 2013 season begins...I am looking forward to helping more families plan their special vacation-it is my privilege to provide you with a wonderful "home away from home" and superior service! Please feel free to contact me TODAY if I can help you with your planning! Thank you. Lorie

Fall Foliage @ Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

Bar Harbor is great in mid-Oct: fall foliage, cooler temperatures, and it wasn't all that crowded. Sunrise, sunset and park loop road were all phenomenal.

I found this house for my family to all stay in one place. It is 3 levels with a bedroom on each level, kitchen on the main level. It was a very comfortable place to stay. On it's own private driveway, it's in a very quiet area. Rates are reasonable, and cheaper than hotels and bed & breakfasts.

We cooked most of our meals there comfortably, including boiling lobsters on their outside grill. Nice dinner table so we could eat as a family.

TVs could use upgrading, as there is a 19" and a 13" tube old-school style tv. Not great for watching sports.

Lorie was very helpful and responsive, offering advice of things to do, places to eat, and supermarkets to buy food. She called on our 2nd night to check in with how we were doing. I'd stay here again (if I get my deposit back in full). We left it clean.
