Nice place, tacky decorations - difficult owner

This is a fine house in a nice setting. However, I found the owner to be difficult and persnickety about every little detail, right down to where the folded blankets should be left and how the quilts needed to folded and a demand that I wash linens and towels before leaving and leave them in a certain place, stacked in a particular way. She has many Martha Stewart magazines around, which provided a clue to her tastes and requirements. A few days after we rented the cottage, I put in some wash and it was all ruined -- about $200 worth of clothing -- because of some kind of dye perhaps used by previous renters. (I didn't bother complaining, because the owner could not help this!) However, only half of my security deposit was returned by the owner, who complained that we had failed to properly put away an Aerobed and also, that the porch needed to be hosed down. (My friend had used some baby powder, some traces of which apparently remained on the porch.) She also claimed some chocolate stains on a carpet, but that is absurd since my children don't eat chocolate because of allergies. I would rent this home only if you are extremely clean, childless and can deal with a persnickety owner. Also, the internet connection that was promised, was extremely unreliable and complicated, so don't expect that to function adequately. ANd I'd ask about the washing machine situation as well.
Owner's Response: We strive to provide the utmost for the traveller's comfort and convenience and we take great pride (and pleasure) in the presentation and maintenance of our properties so that each guest feels incredibly pampered and special.
New features are added each season and this year we are upgrading to wireless internet service. We also provide information regarding the local internet cafes and the town of Bar Harbor's "free wifi location" on the town pier. Catch up on emails, watch all the maritime activities and enjoy some Maine Maple Walnut or Maine Blueberry ice cream -now that sounds like a makings of a fine afternoon experience!
Please call the owner for more detailed information and for any assistance with your vacation plans. Thank you.
